What helped me write trauma better is remembering that the nervous system learns predictions. If danger used to come after quiet, calm can feel threatening. If kindness used to come with a price, kindness can feel suspicious. So healing is not just âthey know theyâre safe now.â Healing is the slow, annoying, deeply unfair process of teaching the body that the old prediction is not always the present truth.

Did you know that AO3 allows fics with homicide in them? Thereâs a whole tag for Major Character Death and even more tags so you can find exactly what kind of character death you want to read.Â
Donât they know that murder is illegal? You just know there are a bunch of homicidal maniacs out there who love to read those stories. They write them, too, in between killing people.Â
Anyone can read the stories on AO3! Kids can read them! Theyâre getting exposed to stabbing, poisoning, even guns! And theyâre writing the heroes doing the killing, too! Thatâs basically telling kids itâs okay to go out and murder their families. Itâs promoting violence and encouraging homicide and if we donât do something about it soon, youâll be murdered next!
The devil came to my house and tried to burn it down, which is why this post exists in the first place.
I canât believe that tumblr user ao3commentoftheday is telling KIDS to go out knocking on doors asking for the devil! /s
but only *after* they piss on the poor! /s
I fucking love when people give in-universe reasons for omegaverse shenanigans being a relatively new phenomenon and not just a fact of life. And this is probably my favorite out of all of them. Insane choice, and I want to kiss the author sloppy style about it.
As we all know, the Spanish Flu caused the omegaverse. Iconic.
If you're ever worried about whether your writing is too self indulgent, I just want you to remember that Sharknado had 5 sequels. I'm only partway through watching Sharknado 6: It's About Time, but already they've traveled through time and ridden a pteronadon into a Sharknado so they could use the magic teleportation portal inside of it to travel forward in time to King Arthur's time, where they are currently battling a Sharknado full of fire-breathing dragon sharks with Excalibur, which is a chainsaw sword that calls lightning. You're fine. In fact, be a little more self indulgent if anything, because I am having a BLAST watching this specifically because I can see how much fun the writers were having.
I think I might be about to send a deranged email
Couldn't find an email address so it was instead a deranged form submission

WORDS TO DESCRIBE BODY LANGUAGE & POSTURE!! <3
Underused Microexpressions for Attraction
Weâve done lip biting to death... Letâs evolve.
⢠Eyes flicking to someoneâs mouth mid-sentence ⢠Forgetting what they were about to say ⢠Leaning in unconsciously ⢠Mirroring posture without realizing ⢠Smiling at something that wasnât that funny ⢠Adjusting hair or clothes when the other person enters ⢠Noticing and remembering details no one else bothers to ⢠A pause before pulling their hand away ⢠Shoulders softening ⢠Looking away first and then back again ⢠Swallowing before speaking ⢠Voice lowering slightly ⢠Turning their body fully toward the other person ⢠A delayed reaction to a touch

op how does it feel to be the most correct person on earth
Apparently a lot of people get dialogue punctuation wrong despite having an otherwise solid grasp of grammar, possibly because theyâre used to writing essays rather than prose. I donât wanna be the asshole who complains about writing errors and then doesnât offer to help, so here are the basics summarized as simply as I could manage on my phone (âdialogue tagâ just refers to phrases like âhe said,â âshe whispered,â âthey askedâ):
âFor most dialogue, use a comma after the sentence and donât capitalize the next word after the quotation mark,â she said.
âBut what if youâre using a question mark rather than a period?â they asked.
âWhen using a dialogue tag, you never capitalize the word after the quotation mark unless itâs a proper noun!â she snapped.
âWhen breaking up a single sentence with a dialogue tag,â she said, âuse commas.â
âThis is a single sentence,â she said. âNow, this is a second stand-alone sentence, so thereâs no comma after âshe said.ââ
âThereâs no dialogue tag after this sentence, so end it with a period rather than a comma.â She frowned, suddenly concerned that the entire post was as unasked for as it was sanctimonious.
âIf you want to break up dialogue to insert an action"âshe gesticulated wildly to emphasize her pointâ"then you use em dashes around the action.â
âYou can also break up dialogue by placing the em dash inside the quotation mark, butââ She took a moment to catch her breath. ââyou must treat the action like a sentence. It must be capitalized with an end punctation.â
âWhen humans speak, we often get sidetracked (and share information that may not be all that pertinent, a secret, or something we probably shouldnât be talking about). Use parenthesis in your dialogue when you want to demonstrate this.â
***
âIf youâre writing a long monologue, then it likely needs to be broken into multiple paragraphs. Because one long paragraph of dialogue that takes up an entire page or multiple pages is very hard on the eyes.
âSo conclude the previous dialogue paragraph without a quotation mark, and start the next dialogue paragraph with a quotation mark. This shows the reader that the same person is still speaking, without the need for additional action or dialogue tags.â
How I think Iâm writing: Using eye contact, or lack thereof, to display emotions such as intimacy, shock, denial, or nervousness.Â
How Iâm actually writing: She looked at me, and I looked away. I tried to look back, but she was already looking at the sky. âLook,â she sighs, looking back at me for a split second. âI donât know how to say this.â We looked at each other and time stopped, but then she looked her lookers at something else to look at, looking tired.Â
!!!!!!!
"why did you stop writing your story!!! never stop writing!!!!!!!!!!!" well you see the character had to drive one mile to a new location and the sentence "she got into the car" was quite simply my undoing
I feel this on a deep and personal level and I know you're making a joke but I do also want to take this opportunity to pass along the biggest small piece of advice I've ever gotten: You don't have to explain every step of how something happened unless something unusual/important happens along the way.
You can simply cut to the next scene when she's at the location, without explaining how she got there. People will fill that in. Now, if something important happens in the car on the way there, then sure, mention it. But if she's just driving? Nah. Delete that sentence, pop in a scene break, and keep writing.
