pulvis et umbra sumus - we are but dust and ash

a zinc plate etching (printed from a plate into which I etched the image with acid). wanted to make something more intricate, something about the fleeting nature of the universe, and this came out. original prints available in my shop here!

merman & fisherman - an intaglio etching

the prints were made by etching a metal plate with acid multiple times to create the image on the plate, which is then used to make the prints. prints available here!

I love him soo much - the design is art nouveau inspired, based on the rooftop scenes, but I wanted to give it a feeling of optimism. not sure when I’ll have time for this but I’m picturing a matching print of Abbot with dusk/nighttime colours. the lino prints are available here 💛

Finished this just in time for Trans Day of Visibility!

As a trans person I have very mixed feelings about trans day of visibility - as great as visibility is, it’s also been a massive target lately and sometimes I wish we could go back to being invisible lol. But I’m taking this day to appreciate trans creativity & community 💖

Last year I got really into learning iconography, with the sole purpose of taking the beautiful opulence of historical catholic art and turning it queer. I made this icon using the traditional water gilding method. I bought a wood board that had been prea-treated with smooth gesso, then applied a mixture of fish glue & armenian bole to it (the red stuff), sanded it, applied (fake) gold leaf using a lot of water, and then burnished it. The paint is gouache because I still haven’t been able to master egg tempera.

milk carton intaglio prints! these are printed from tetrapak cartons - after being loaded up with ink, the shiny smooth parts print the grey areas, and parts where I have scratched away the metallic shiny layer print dark. you can get these prints in my shop here!
