He couldn’t help his stomach starting to grumble with the food sitting in front of him as he looked over at his girlfriend. he hated exams, he swears they never put anything that they actually studied from the course in the exams. it was lara jean who suggested them to study together, he really didn’t’ want to take away from her own studies, he knew how important her classes were. he knows that she’ll do amazing in her exams, she so brilliant. eating his burger, he made a small face at her words. ‘ no couple dates? you drive a hard bargain just to pass some classes,’ not like he was failing, he was doing rather well.

He knows that to say these kinds of things, out in the open would be caused for questions. yet, he refused to fear the situation, he knows he must be careful, somehow it just might get back to his uncle. he raised his eyebrows at her words, ' but you didn't say no to the chance to courting you,' he pointed out with a teasing tone. ' well, we will be happy my father will never know of this, and what agravaine doesn't know won't hurt him.'

He’ll be a future king, and as his father tried to tell him, that he would lord over everyone and they would do what he wanted. he could understand that, but not in his marriage. he had heard all about how his mother and father had a close and equal union from things he’s heard. that’s what he wants as well for himself and his wife. he wanted them to be able to talk freely and discuss anything, regardless of how hard the subject was, like magic. he was still on the fence about it himself, more times he leaned towards lifting the ban when he becomes king. ‘ trust me, i know my father, it will be less of the arrangement for us, and rather what he get from this union. besides… i would like to talk to you, just us, princess lara jean.’

Morgana lifted her head to look at Arthur. “Why?” she asked, her voice soft. “In the end, I am just a pawn for your father’s political advantage. Men travel from far and wide to see the beautiful Lady Morgana. But no one ever cares to ask what she feels.”

       he knew that jack had the same types of worries that he he had. he never fully trusted that anyone would love him for him. it had been his father that had drilled into his head that he needed to marry a princess or another noble lady to further the family line.

Did Arthur ask for too much when he was suggesting about being public with Merlin. He shifted in his feet slightly at he looked at Merlin. “I want to, Merlin,” Arthur counted just as softly. “I don’t care who knows about you or me. The knights will tell me that it was about time, and the nobles will get over it, I’m surely not the first king who enjoyed the company of men rather than women,” granted, it wasn’t favored upon. But, he wanted to be able to hold Merlin’s hand or give him all the things he longed deserved to receive, even if Merlin might be stubborn about it.

“Of course, I want us to be able to court one another.” He never really got the chance to court anyone. All the women that his father would bring around him was because he was hoping to marry his son off. That didn’t exactly give him the chance to know someone’s likes and dislikes. He already felt better about him and Merlin because they knew each other so well. He knows that this is something precious between them and he didn’t want to lose it.

“Then…okay. We will be public. And anyone who gives you a hard time about it will wish they hadn’t.” He would defend Arthur with everything he had and perhaps toss a spell the way to the person who hurt Arthur. He was already enjoying the thought of properly getting the chance to court Arthur. Knowing that he liked flowers, he would make sure that he had some in his room every day. New ones if he could find them near the edge of the lower towns somewhere or a shoppe. All he really knows is, he wants Arthur to feel loved with him.

Leaning in, Merlin brushed a tender kiss to Arthur’s cheek. “You won’t regret this, I promise. And at least now you can’t bully me about where we sit if we go on picnic dates like you did with Mithian.” He knew that Mithian would have been a good match for Arthur and he’d been surprised when he ended up not marrying her. She would have been a good Queen to have at Arthur’s side and he wondered if he might be able to talk Arthur into at least finding the kingdom a Queen one day since he knew that wasn’t a role he could take. King Consort wasn’t really a thing, was it? He wasn’t sure. “I can’t believe this is happening. It seems like it’s been so long that I’ve wanted you.”

He wouldn't be surprised if Merlin ended up going out of his way to protect him. He's sure it wasn't the first time that the other man had protected him from danger, knowing of his magic. He knows that Merlin liked books and flowers as well, so he knew a few ideas of what he could get for him. He knows he wants Merlin to feel loved as well, he deserved to feel that way.

Now, I could still bully you, but I'll do my best to reign myself in." He knew that Mithian would have been a good choice as Queen, but she wasn't the right choice for his heart. As long as Merlin has been telling him that he should be happy, he knew that this was the right time for him to be happy. He would have to figure out this would work, but they would get there. He never would have expected that Merlin had the same feelings for him as he did. This was something he thought about for hours on end, but sill never crossed that line before he wasn’t trying to make any situation between them bad. Merlin’s hand against his cheek felt soft and gentle, it would be something that he wasn’t planning on forgetting anytime soon. He’s never been able to feel this way, it’s only ever been with Merlin.

He murmured an apology to the other man. He knows that he shouldn’t make those kinds of jokes around Merlin. He’s known how badly Merlin has worried about him. He knew that if he wanted things to continue with Merlin, he couldn’t hide what was happening between them. He wasn’t going to keep Merlin a secret, not after everything they went through. “And I do plan on courting you publicly.”

Merlin had dropped his hand from Arthur’s face, instead blinking slowly at him in surprise. Arthur would court him then? And publicly? “You don’t have to, Arthur,” Merlin said softly. “I was…just kidding. I know this might be difficult and you might not want anyone to know.” Though a part of him did hope it was true. Because if Arthur would court him publicly, then he would court Arthur publicly in return. Oh how he’d spoil him, well, if there was spoiling that could be done for a man who already had everything he could possibly want.

“I would be honored to be courted by you, so long as you consider it the same for me doing with you, of course.” His courting with Freya had been short lived and Will had been, well, that had never been a full time thing either. There might’ve been a chance with Lancelot too, but they never got that open with each other. Here, now, he hoped that things could last with himself and Arthur. He was tired of losing those that he loved.

A chuckle escaped him as he saw her eye roll, it always got him when he could make her laugh. it was always like a personal mission for him. that feeling of wanting to always see her happy was something that would never change. he cared about her so much and he was glad that her father accepted him and gave him permission to ask lara jean out on a date.  they were finally on a date together and he hopes that it won’t be the last date that they would have together. she was so special to him. ‘ i knows its different and i know that it’s not our pizza or subs… don’t worry about the prices. you deserve this. i’m happy to be with you too.,” reaching across to hold her hand, “lara jean, you’re perfect.”
