ah, it's fine! I was just wondering. thanks for answering tho
No problem. Â Sorry I canât be of more help, but well, with Neri!Mod having moved out of Japan and Neni!Mod being on another blog, thereâs not really much that can be done at this point.
Heya, Orky Mod here. Â Itâs been quite some time since this blog last received an ask, and one of our admins moved to a different blog. Â Neri!Mod might know where to get the novel itself, but as for translations, Iâm afraid that I have no idea where one could find it.
In theory, if we could get our hands on the books themselves we could translate it for you, but with Neni!Mod having moved to another blog, Iâm afraid that translations might not be happening for some time. Â Iâll bring it up with her and see what we can do, but I canât promise you anything.
Do you have any transcripts (or any links to transcripts) of the Japanese Kingdom Hearts novels? I'd love to translate them (if I know that there isnt a translation available online already) into English. I can only work with transcripts and not scans as it just takes so much longer and frustrates me like hell. Thanks, Crystal P.S. I freaking love this blog! XD
You're in luck!...Well, sort of.
I actually own most of the novels, save for maybe three or so, I think. I started a personal project a loooong time ago to put up transcripts in the original Japanese for everything, but real life got in the way, and it's been on hiatus for awhile.
Still, I've already done a couple of chapters, and hopefully I can pick up the project again in the summer when school lets out and I'm not teaching. You can find my master post here.
Go right ahead, we encourage our followers to interpret what we put up for themselves. Â We aren't supposed to tell you that this is exactly what happened and there is no other way to explain it. Â Nomura actually likes it when his fans do the whole interpreting thing.
but can you put italics on vanitas and the characters thoughts? I could understand better who thinking
To be honest, it'd be more accurate to just leave it as is.
Things that are definitely thoughts were written in either bold or italic in the books themselves, and where it's like that in the text, Neni translated it as such.Â
The tense switches were in the original text, and it was definitely narrative, not thought. As confusing as it was, we'd like to honor the original author's intentions and leave it as is.
I mean, hey, we understand! It's just as confusing for us as it is for you--but perhaps that ambiguity was what the author wanted?
-Neri!Mod
--------------------
I am sorry, but this was a choice by me as the translator. The original novel does not make it clear which parts are inner monologue and which are 3rd person narration, and due to how the japanese language handles pronouns it's neigh impossible to tell most of the time. If I put italics on the parts I *believe* to be Vanitas' narration, I would be manipulating the original text with my own interpretation to an extend I want to avoid, so I won't add italics. I *did* add italics in one part, but this was because it would have become confusing beyond recognition without it. I want to keep such Layout and Formating Alterations to a minimum. Excuse me. ^^;Â
oh and what about this âI wished I were him, able to feel nothing at all. I was a part of him once, so why was it that I had been split off? Maybe it would have been better if he had stayed close. Maybe I would have felt a bit better. But Xehanort took him away. Itâs all Xehanortâs fault. But Ventus doesnât have to deal with what I have to go through. He doesnât have to feel this pain, he doesnât have to feel this agony.I envy you.Heâs detestable. I hate Ventus. And the Unversed that keep coming
Ah, now this one I do understand better. Â Vanitas is showing envy at Ventus, wondering why he was the one that Xehanort kept. Â It seems that he desired companionship, and when Ventus was taken away, he had nothing. Â Why should Ventus get a good life, while Vanitas is doomed to isolation and torment? He grows jealous of Ventus, wanting to exchange places. Â And those Unversed are a true reminder of his jealousy, and he hates them all the more for reminding him of his isolation.
Well, at least, that's what I think it's saying. Â Again, I'm kinda bad at analysis, but Neni!Mod happens to be asleep now, so you'll have to deal with me for now.
-Orky!Mod
I guess I was off editing the other ask while you were answering this one. Hopefully what I said there clears things up a little more!
in dark memory which parts are vanitas thought? I could tell without the italics and he . But itâs also my own emotion. And from this fear I donât understand, terrible strength can be born.Who was I? can you tell me whitch is vanitas thoughts?
According to standard writing conventions, if all of that was in one paragraph, it is accordingly the same character's thoughts. Â Presumably, that's all Vanitas there. Â I think the context is that he is feeling what Ventus is feeling, and it scares him...I'll let the other mods add to this, as I'm rather bad at analysis like this.
-Orky!Mod
This was just as ambiguous in its original language, trust us. The pronouns used in the translation are direct translations of the ones used in the text. Granted, pronoun usage in Japanese is a little different than how we use them in English, and in fact is often omitted entirely in Japanese.
Even in the original language, those passages read a little strangely. In the end, Neni!Mod went with just faithfully translating the switching viewpoints, just as it is in the book.
I believe I asked a month or so ago about a list of cutscenes only available in the Final Mixes. Are you planning to upload them, or have a list of said cutscenes?
Ah, I am so sorry!! I meant to post the videos on the blog, but got distracted by a variety of news in another Fandom (long story) and forgot to translate and upload the scenes! I will do that tomorrow!
Sorry for the huge delay. KH2FM has the most text to translate in the additional cutscenes, so I ended up procrastinating it out. Excuse me, please! I'm going to make up for it.
Yes, my friends, long I have waited, finally they are here: Today I received a package containing the KH Ultimanias for 358/2 Days, Birth by Sleep, Re:coded and Dream Drop Distance as well as the novel Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance - Side Sora.Â
Now, what does that mean?
This means this blog has a purpose again, my friends!
From now on, I will keep trying to translate relevant material in the books I received, little by little, to complete the archive in this blog. (I will also upload the missing things from the playthrough that are still not archived here, don't worry.)
If you have requests for any specific information, just ask! I will do my best to find and translate it!
Nothing. I tried to hack into the game using numberous programms to hack the savefilepictures, but all I found were models and textures for said models (Well, I guess these may come in handy too some day...)
Randy!Mod actually wanted to marathon the game until the savepicture pops up again, but it didn't work. Right now, we're all just confused. We all distinctincly remember seeing it in the past, after all, but getting solid proof is proving hard.
I have one last thing I can try and that's asking this one professional programmer I know if he couldn't help me extract all image files from the Game Disk. Until then, though, there's not much we can do.
We can neither proove nor disproove the existence of that picture until we found our way into the game data...
For now, the status of it remains "Unbusted Myth", as frustrating as that is...
What do you think about the theory that the Mickey in Country of the Musketeers is actually the ancestor of the current Mickey? Because in KHII, in the Disney Castle Library, there are two Portraits on the walls of the library that, when approached and examined, are described as "the king's ancestors" or something to that effect. One of those portraits is of a french anthropomorphic mouse with a mustache and a Musketeer outfit. A musketeer outfit nearly identical to the one in KH3D.
I think that's a coincidence personally. Â I got the impression that the Mickey in the country of the musketeers was the King we always knew, long before the world fell to darkness and even before he became king. Â It'd also make sense if that's where he met Minnie.
Though, it isn't out of the question that he could've had ancestors who were Musketeers before him.
About Timeless River, Merlin's time magic is mentioned in 3D when Yen Sid explains that Merlin and the three good fairies created a place outside time for Lea to learn how use the keyblade. Timeless River is also referenced later in KHII, when Mickey says "Time to weigh anchor Captain Pete." Mickey was reminding Pete of the days when their situations were reversed, in order to encourage him.
The later doesn't mean that a parallel world stuck in the past can't exist, after all we saw in Dream Drop Distance that other worlds where Mickey is still Yen Sid's student (though not as a Keyblade User) exist too, after all.
As for "a place outside time", in the japanese Version, Yen Sid only said that it was a space where time flowed differently. I'm imagining that as a room that has "Hasteza" cast on the entire area, rather than Xehanort's brand of time traveling, to be honest. I don't think the concepts contradict or make a statement about each other.Â
Maybe Mickey knew that there was a keyblader on Destiny Islands, and that they would arrive in Traverse Town when DI was destroyed, and would meet Leon, and Donald, and Goofy, and set out on a journey. Maybe he didn't know that keyblader's name at the time, but he could get in contact with that keyblader's heart. Maybe he didn't know anything about Sora when he was talking to him, and maybe he couldn't see Sora during the awakening. Maybe that's why he asked Sora all those questions.
So you think it was all a giant cosmic mix up? It sounds possible, but it'd be quite of a huge coincidence... The again, this IS KH. I will never completly rule out ANYTHING in KH until the opposite is Canon.
I still don't know what to think of the whole "Mickey was the voice" idea, it kinda strikes me wrong, but maybe that's just because Nomura never found the time to tell that "Story of the Kings Absence" he mentioned in the Director's Reports. Maybe if we knew that one, it would all make more sense.Â
I was thinking about the possibility of Mickey being the voice in the Awakening, and I realized that Mickey did know Sora was important from the beginning. In the first game, Mickey gives a letter to Donald that says to head to Traverse Town, and find Leon, so he could point them to the key. And the very next day Sora falls out of the sky in Traverse Town and meets Leon. Mickey knew where Donald and Goofy were supposed to go, and what they would find. He didn't know about Ven's heart though.
...
...Nomura, what the hell is going on? What in the world did Mickey know and why? Is Timetraveling Mickey Canon?
Nomura what Nomura.(Sorry, I lack the mental capacities to give a more elaborate response right now, all I can say is that I am trying to make they pieces fit and I can't. This is gonna be a loooong wait for the next game...)
This is the full list of Secret Ansem Reports in âKingdom Hearts IIâ. They give insight into Ansem's views on Sora, Xehanort, Nobodies, and a few other matters that are relevant to Kingdom Hearts II.
For simplicities sake, these reports were copy-pasted from the Kingdom Hearts Wiki.
My efforts these many years have come to fruition, with the world I govern having become a paradise worthy of being called "Radiant Garden."Nurtured by the pure water that is the source of life, fragrant flowers bloom in abundance, and the people face each day with hopeful smiles. But where there is light, darkness also lurks. As noted in my earlier reports, I must solve the mystery of this "darkness of the heart." This paradise depends on it.I shall perform an experiment to probe the depths of a person's heart. One of my own apprentices, Xehanort, has volunteered to be a subject. The young man has served me ever since I nursed him back from death's door some years ago.He had lost all his memories at the time, but later showed remarkable intellectual curiosity and readily absorbed my teachings, gaining deep wisdom. Any mental immaturity is surely due to his young age.If I explore Xehanort's heart with psychological tests, I may be able to recall the past locked away within. My apprentice Even has also shown great interest in Xehanort's memories. But is he really the right subject? Xehanort does indeed exhibit extraordinary talents...Too extraordinary...Perhaps they are even superhuman.
[edit]Secret Ansem's Report 2
I have made a grave mistake. My study of the "darkness of the heart" began with a simple psychological test and quickly snowballed.Spurred on by my youngest apprentice, Ienzo, I constructed a massive laboratory in the basement of my castle.Unbeknownst to me, my six apprentices then began collecting a large number of subjects on which to perform dangerous experiments into the "darkness of the heart."As soon as I found out, I called my apprentices together and ordered them not only to cease their studies, but to destroy the results of their research thus far. What on earth was happening within the hearts of my six beloved apprentices? While pursuing the mystery of the darkness of the heart, could they themselves have strayed into its depths?Yet I remain the most foolish of all, for having begun these experiments. We are not meant to interfere in the depths of another's heart, no matter what our reasons for doing so...And my error plunged me into despair.A visitor from another world soothed my dejected soul.A tiny king named Mickey came wielding a legendary key â the infamous "Keyblade," said to bring both chaos and prosperity to the world. He was very knowledgeable on many topics, and we deepened our friendship as we conversed companionably.Upon his advice, I decided to review the data obtained at my basement lab. That is when I discovered the "Ansem's Reports."Though they bore my name, the only one I had written was number 0.Apparently he had gone on to pen numbers 1 through 8 himself.Yes â the first subject in my foolish experiments.
[edit]Secret Ansem's Report 3
Chaos affects not only this world, but many other worlds besides. In the "Ansem's Reports" my apprentice Xehanort had written under my name, I found the records of his hideous experiments along with his hypothesis about the door that had appeared out of the darkness in my basement. All living things have hearts, and all hearts hold darkness deep within.Worlds are no exception. If a world is a being, the heart it holds must be colossal......and the darkness at its core must be monstrous indeed.Did Xehanort pass through that door in an attempt to contact that dark realm? No, not only Xehanort. It appears my other five apprentices, believing it was for the sake of research, stared deep into the darkness and were pulled into it.Even, Ienzo, Braig, Dilan, and Aeleus...They have ceased to be human.I, too, have had everything taken away from me, banished to a hollow realm of nothingness. What is Xehanort hoping to gain with my pilfered existence? Will my people cease to smile? If the light of hope has been extinguished, I shall henceforth walk with darkness as a friend. Here, in the realm of nothingness to which I have been relegated.Darkness in the midst of nothing."Darkness in Zero."Thus, I shall be known as DiZ.Discarding the stolen name "Ansem"...And going in search of revenge.
[edit]Secret Ansem's Report 4
The distant days spent in that beautiful paradise are an illusion to me now.How long have I been here, banished to the realm of nothingness? It is only by relying upon my anger and hatred that I have been able to retain my sense of self here where all existence is nullified. My heart is being overcome with hatred toward my apprentices, possessed by the darkness, and with the anger I feel for stupidly allowing myself to be betrayed. Is this darkness, eating away at my heart?I cannot continue to idle away my time here. What are Xehanort and the others attempting to do?I must unravel the mystery of these Ansem's Reports, intercept my apprentices, and defeat them. That is my mission...the only way to repay the world for my sins. Those beings who lack heartsâthe Heartlessâmust be the key.The darkness of the heart, made flesh. Cursed shadows who not only lack hearts, but multiply by seizing hearts from any and all living things.Where have they come from, and where are they going?Three elements combine to create a life: a heart, a soul, and a body. But what of the soul and body left behind when the heart is lost? When the soul leaves the body, its vessel, life gives way to death, but what about when the heart leaves?A being does not perish when its heart leaves its body. The heart alone disappears into the darkness. There is little time.If I remain in this realm much longer, I will certainly learn these answers the hard way.My heart is already a captive of the darkness.
[edit]Secret Ansem's Report 5
In this realm, where all existence has been disintegrated, I have just barely managed to preserve my sense of self by continuing to think and to write. It is a place where even time has lost all meaning. Eternity is as but a moment here.I must make haste. Certainly their plans are already underway. The Heartless must be the key to unraveling this mystery. The six traitors were operating a laboratory that churned out those cursed shadows. Not only did they generate "pureblood" Heartless from living hearts, but they then used those Heartless to synthesize artificial versions of the creatures as well. These synthetic Heartless bore insignias and were called "Emblems."Pureblood or Emblem, these Heartless act only to fulfill their instinctive needs. They single-mindedly detect hearts and swarm around them.A human's commands would be ineffective: the Heartless would easily steal the human's heart and use it to increase their own ranks. But what if an even stronger Heartless was giving the orders? If he cast aside his own soul and body and became a Heartless, wouldn't he be able to control the otherwise intractable Heartless?Furthermore, wouldn't he be planning to make use of the creatures' instincts? If the heart-seeking Heartless have their sights set on a larger, more powerful heart, their ultimate goal is crystal-clear.The largest heart in existenceâthe heart of the world. This is all conjecture, but it would seem he is utilizing the Heartless in his search for a path leading to the heart of the world.
[edit]Secret Ansem's Report 6
My choice to befriend darkness here in the midst of nothingness was a sound one.The moment I stared straight ahead with a calm heart, neither rejecting darkness nor fearing it, I gained a newfound power.A superhuman powerâthe power of darkness. It is likely Xehanort and the others were enraptured by this power, eventually becoming its prisoners.I do not intend to allow my heart to be devoured by the darkness, as they did, of course. With this new power, I uncovered a "corridor of darkness" that connects the realm of nothingness to the outside world. While it is still difficult to come and go as I please, my banishment is now a thing of the past.To deceive Xehanort and my apprentices, I first used my power to change form before returning to the realm of light. As I had suspected, Xehanort had become a Heartless.Under my name, he commanded other Heartless in quests to snatch away the hearts of many different worlds. At the center of the heart Xehanort has stolen was "Kingdom Hearts," which attracts tremendous darkness itself and attempts to send any and all matter back into its depths. The other five have disappeared. Have they become Heartless, like Xehanort?Or did they vanish after Xehanort exploited them?I became familiar with an unusual "entity" while pursuing the truth. It is the soul and body that remain when a being loses its heart. When a Heartless is born, these entities disappear from the realm of light, to be reborn as entirely new beings in a completely different realm.
[edit]Secret Ansem's Report 7
While beings born of darkness and those lacking hearts may find them convenient, it is dangerous for others to make much use of the corridors of darkness. Darkness erodes the heart. In search of a place to proceed with my research and planning away from prying eyes, I found myself in "Twilight Town." It is a quiet village, forgotten in the chasm between light and darkness. I situated myself in the basement of an abandoned mansion standing beyond the woods. My underground research resulted in one new discovery after another. When a Heartless is born, the body and soul left behind are reborn into this world as a different being. They possess different intentions than their Heartless brethren, and while it is unclear what these sentient "things" are after, it would appear they are responsible for much bedlam in the world. My erstwhile friend the King and his subjects, along with a hero wielding the Keyblade, are battling the Heartless even as a new threat approaches. This new threat...they have given themselves a fitting name, I suppose. These non-beings: "Nobodies."A great number of Nobodies have lost human form, as have the Heartless. Yet the Nobody born of someone with a strong heart retains its shape, with but the faintest visible changes. It appears my betrayers have retained their human forms as Nobodies, and are gathering more followers in hopes of furthering a new scheme."Organization XIII," formed of 13 Nobodies with my betrayers at its core, has divided into two; they are said to be carrying out some sort of research.Seeking to uncover the plans of this Organization, I have decided to head for where six of its members have gathered. Towering over the outer limits of the realm between darkness and light:Castle Oblivion.
I was reunited with an old friend at Castle Oblivion, but was unable to disclose my identity. If he knew the situation, he would likely try to stop me from carrying out my revenge. As much as I would dearly love to converse with him as in the old days...that is now but a hopeless dream. My friend has been fighting in the realm of darkness. Most likely he found his way there through Traverse Town.Like Castle Oblivion, that village also rests in the cleft between light and dark. It consists of the remnants of worlds whose hearts have been stolen by the Heartless. It is where those who have barely escaped the destruction of their worlds eventually find themselves. This "realm between" is quite unstable, with corridors of darkness appearing from time to time.Whenever a world disappears, some of its inhabitants must arrive here through these corridors. Surely Sora traveled these same corridors of darkness when he first came to Traverse Town.It seems my friend, fighting in the realm of darkness, appeared in Castle Oblivion through a corridor of darkness constructed by Organization XIII.My new ally Riku also effected his return via one of these corridors. He swore to me he would give his all for his best friend Sora.In fact, Sora's memories have been slow to return. Thus I have asked Riku to bring me another Soraâhis Nobody.Sora is indispensable if I am to achieve my goal.I require the Keyblade-wielding hero to fly through the realm of light and defeat Organization XIII.
Now that the playthrough of Kingdom Hearts II is finished, I'll naturally put all additional cutscenes and relevant content from the Final Mix onto this blog. This will, however, take a while: KH2 has by far the biggest collection of relevant additional content in its Final Mix and the videos I found have no subtitles (Japanese or English), so I will have to translate from what I hear, which could take a while. I won't use someone else's translation, since it's very important to me that all translation of japanese content I put on this blog is my own, so I can explain what connotations exactly I believe every single sentence to carry.
There will be a Thoughts-On Post regarding the ending of KH2, however, I will write that when I am under no timepressure whatsoever, so I can filter what is worth being written down and what's just random stuff with little relevance. I want to have at least one sane-sounding "Thoughts On" Post of mine in that archive.
As for the playthrough of ReCoded... I want to do it, because I really love that game, but on the other hand, I only recently (Shortly after the release of KH3D in Japan) played that game and still have a complete recording of that playthrough on my harddrive. I can always go and look at that, so, unless somebody really, really wants to watch me play that game very badly, I don't think there is much of a point to playing it again, especially since August has pretty much ended, so I have effectively spent this entire month playing KH. As much as I love the series, I'd like to take a longer break from playing those games now and take the time to finish one of the hundreds of other JRPGs I started playing and haven't finished yet, so unless it's really important to somebody to watch me playing ReCoded, I guess I won't livestream it again that quickly. ^^;Â
HOWEVER, should any of our other Mods decide to livestream ReCoded in my stead... Well, I guess then there would be a stream after all. Just not by me. Heh.Â
On the other hand, however, expect me to do liveblogging of Dream Drop Distance on this blog in the future, most likely in winter. If I really want to make this a complete archiv for everything story-relevant, I will need to recap that game as well, so if I can't stream KH3D, why not liveblog it? Would give this blog some more purpose.
Anyway, so much for the Status Report. I'll try to upload all KH2 relevant content within a week from now, possibly with some help by my fellow Mods, then translate some more novel content. I have also ordered myself several of the Ultimanias, so expect some translations from that as well in the next months.
I followed you but you don't have to follow back.. I'm an Avatar blog. I just want Kingdom Hearts in my Dash Because I love it and your blog's awesome. :P
Ahaha, we can't follow blogs with this one anyway, because it's a shared one, but I will be sure to check yours out with my Personal, because Avatar TlA just so happens to be one of my other Fandoms~!Thanks for following!
