Vegas and Detroit each use their EFO on Daryl Watts. Since she has two offers, she gets to pick, and chooses Detroit.

Meanwhile, Knight enters negotiations with Detroit without knowing she's Number 2 on Vegas's EFO, meaning she HAS to go.

She doesn't want to do that. (I would go as far as to say she could threaten retirement if she didn't like her deal - hashtag my opinion)

The league, Vegas, and Detroit save face by agreeing that Hilary Knight does have to sign the EFO to Vegas, BUT, there is a handshake agreement to trade Knight to Detroit for their first round draft pick once the trade freeze is up

Today, the draft order is announced and Detroit is third pick, except they've agreed to trade that away, meaning they are in essence trading either Edwards or Murphy for Knight.

The trade deal is not set in stone because trades have not opened up yet, so, are they still going to do it or say sorry you're stuck with Knight now and take their third pick in the draft

oh right now that the expansion drafts are essentially complete (existing teams have two windows on draft day eve and draft boxing day where they can sign anyone who was on the roster and has an expiring contract) (and then there will be free agency where any unsigned player can sign with any team)

just cause your special little guy has been signed, protected, or passed over doesn’t mean they’re safe! ask the sirens how they lost Ella Shelton and Abby roque! ask Toronto and Montreal why they had fewer draft picks! your GM can make a draft! day! trade!

they can just announce “hey instead of selecting a new baby to raise we’re gonna sign our parental rights over to pascal daoust and take one of his toddlers” do worry kitten! You’re never safe! Sports is suffering!

Maybe the reason Detroit hasn’t drafted a goalie isn’t just because this whole expansion process has been a cluster but because secretly Manon is trying for the elusive GM/goalie combo in a “be your own boss” kind of situation after seeing Troy Ryan become both GM/coach in San Jose.
