I've seen lots of Dr Who EU fans (rightfully) recommend the books and the audios to people looking for more Dr Who, but I suggest giving the comics some love too!

I think even after all this time there's a stigma that comics are an inherently childish or shallow medium, but that's simply not true. There's many wonderful and thoughtful Dr Who comics out there, and I'm warning you that if I have to write up an entry guide then I will!

People are, unfortunately, very unpleasant to the people running social media accounts for things like Doctor Who.

For example, they made a fairly harmless post linking to an article about organising a Doctor Who watch party. If you read the article, it's basically just a fun way of announcing that the show is streaming in the US again on AMC+ and encouraging people to gather some friends and watch it together.

But the comments on Instagram are just... a lot.

"They cancelled it and now want us to have a watch party?"

"So it's cancelled but we're supposed to celebrate old episodes?"

"Chris Chibnall killed Doctor Who."

"Get woke, go broke."

That sort of thing.

And like... I get it. We've just had big news. People are disappointed, frustrated, angry, worried about the future. Those are all perfectly normal reactions.

But directing all of that at the social media manager whose job is essentially "post links and announcements" feels incredibly misdirected.

It's just throwing tomatoes at the nearest person wearing a name tag.

The person posting an article about AMC+ is not the person who decided the future of the franchise. They're not sitting in BBC board meetings. They're not secretly responsible for the cancellation of a Christmas special because they scheduled an Instagram post on a Tuesday afternoon.

And it always feels especially strange in this fandom because Doctor Who spends an awful lot of time telling you to be kind. Not nice. Kind.

"Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind."

Yet the second a comment box appears, some people seem to treat whoever runs the social account as a communal stress ball.

And like also... we did just get disappointing news. Why wouldn't you want to cheer yourself up by watching your favourite episodes with friends? That feels like one of the most normal responses imaginable.

Sometimes the thing that helps when you're sad about something is spending time with other people who care about it just as much as you do.

Which actually reminds me of a quote from Ted Lasso that I think about a lot:

"And I want you to be grateful that you're going through this sad moment with all these other folks. Because I promise you, there is something worse out there than being sad, and that is being alone and being sad. Ain't nobody in this room alone. Let's be sad now. Let's be sad together. And then we can be a gosh-darn goldfish. Onward. Forward."

That's kind of where I'm at.

Be disappointed. Be sad. Be worried. I'm certainly feeling some of those things myself.

But don't be cruel to the random social media person.

And maybe go watch an episode you love with some friends. If we're all going to be sad about Doctor Who for a bit, we might as well be sad about Doctor Who together.

The idea of them adding rain and Dr Grace immediately disliking it and going inside is just so tasty. On an animal level the biodome team are simply not pleased that he displays an aversive response!! AND YET this is precisely the whole deal with rain... even if they know that and the experience coordinator appreciates the extra tool to encourage him to move through different areas and spend his time in different places... it's just inarguably annoying to see Dr Grace squint and hunch in your PRECIOUS RAIN.
