Visiting Hours
Coats snorted in amusement as he opened the door and entered. “You’re alive and you’re awake -“ and breathing without the help of a machine “so rest assured you’re a sight for sore eyes.”
He shut the door behind him and saluted smartly. He might have been her senior in the Alliance, but she was a Spectre, which was an entirely different ballgame - not to mention she was something a lot more, but no one had figured out a title for it yet.
“Major Coats, ma’am,” he said. “Not sure if you remember much in the run up - wouldn’t blame you; it was pretty hectic, never mind the crash you had after that.” He scrubbed his clean shaven face with his hand when he stood at ease. “Probably look a bit different in good light without days of grime all over me and all. How’re you feeling?”
Piecing together what had happened had been her main focus in the past weeks. She remembered bits here and there, bigger parts and smaller things that filled in the in-between, but Shepard was doubtful it would come back to her altogether -- not without time, and considerable effort, anyway -- though the name struck a bell.
"Coats... Major Coats. You were on Earth before the final run, right?" She asked a bit uncertainly, returning the salute with one of her own, as much as she could manage while propped up in bed. "Didn't have much time to get to know each other, but I remember the name. Good to see you alive and walking, Major."
Shepard nodded and sighed quietly, a weak smile surfacing past her worn expression. "I'm feeling good," she admitted, laying her hands in her lap and sitting up a little straighter. "All things considered, anyway. It could definitely be worse."
