Despite the solar industry's best efforts, solar power remains unavailable to hundreds of communities across the country. The simple question is: Why? The answer lies in two words: soft costs, including permitting, inspection, connection, and other indirect costs.
Interesting way of helping lower soft costs (solarpermit.org)

Global Atlas by IRENA
The Global Atlas is the comprehensive information platform on the potential of renewable energy. It provides resource maps from leading technical institutes worldwide and tools for evaluating the technical potential of renewable energies. It can function as a catalyst for policy development and energy planning, and can support investors in entering renewable energy markets.
Excellent article about US position on shale gas and oil. By changing US status from oil importer to exporter, this will completely modify the geopolitic landscape. Whether you like it or not, shale fossil fuels are critical assets that US cannot put aside.
Renewable energy does not always mean electricity. It's also to think out of the box and find new ways of value available free energy.
Here the team of Massoud Hassani (Mine Kafon) is developing a low cost mine detonator powered by wind. It is a original project that needs support!

How much fuel does it take to power a lightbulb for a year?
Quite interesting perspective. However, the calculations are simplified since they do not include efficiency of storage (batteries) for the renewable sources due to intermittence. Fossil fuel don't need storage since we can control the fuel input.
On the other hand, the infographic doesn't tell the energy required to produce the fossil fuel such as extraction, concentration... This can lead to a much higher need of fossil fuel.
Making the GOOD choice
How much water is consumed in your life everyday? This infographic (produced by GOOD.is) shows that most of our water consumption is indirectly on food. By reducing our meat habits (especially on beef), we can lower significantly our water footprint.

Edison vs Tesla: The Current War
Interesting map that shows the oil shipping lanes and refineries on a world map. Some countries have none or almost no refineries and this can play a geopolitics game. There are no more new construction of new refineries due to high cost and risk over oil price and availability. Some countries are taking advantage of this situation.
Solar is becoming cost effective in China.
Most people had doubt about it. Finally, it's been confirmed. It will be interesting to follow the French energy policy evolution of the next few years.
Very interesting (and shocking) website about income and richness. It may not include the cost of life of each country.
