Genuinely really interesting seeing people argue about the male and female character/skin designs in marvel rivals, and what people consider sexualization. Like, while I really like a lot of the designs in rivals, including emma frosts, there is a huge problem I have with the game and it’s over-sexualization of its female characters. There are some women in the game who aren’t overly sexualized (at least by the standards of comic/superhero media), like mantis, squirrel girl, or black widow, but there are no skins for the male characters in the game that compare to invisible woman’s malice costume, or psylocke’s vengeance costume.

I’ve seen people argue for some of the other costumes for male characters that show a lot of skin, but sexualization, and specifically objectification, isn’t really as simple as that when comparing the treatment of male characters to female characters. When male characters show a lot of skin (like black panther’s bast’s chosen skin, or namor’s wakanda forever skin), it’s still catering to a male audience.

Women in the game show a lot of skin to show men something pretty and sexual to look at, men in the game show a lot of skin to show men a power fantasy for them to play as. Nothing about sue’s malice skin showing her entire ass emphasizes her power in the way that iron fist’s immortal weapon of agamotto skin shows off his abs.

The only thing I feel like gets close to the way that rivals sexualizes its women is otherwindow's edits of men's costumes. While the amount of skin shown isn't the same as on some female character's costumes, it's a far better comparison point for what it would really look like if rivals treated all its characters the same way, which is super neat!

Really reminds me of the hawkeye initiative, a project started on tumblr years ago where artists would draw hawkeye posed like female comic book characters, and having a male character in those poses really emphasized how ridiculous they often were

I’d like to add this photo I took last night in Victoria of the statue of Captain Cook. Though I myself am not indigenous, I 100% agree that these murderers, kidnappers and rapists shouldn’t have huge statues and plaques that decorate them and say how “great” they were.

I had seen the first picture of the church, but not the second.

I went to a “Cancel Canada Day” event and burst into tears - not because I was surprised to learn of the unmarked graves (survivors told us they were there. Our government pushed it aside, and we let them), but because seeing all the people gathered in mourning drove it home: They. Were. Children.

This is my country’s legacy - and it’s not history. The last schools closed during my lifetime. My Father went to school with students who lived at the local residential school, after it was changed to a boarding house (read: holding centre) for indigenous youth who went to local schools.

They were all children, injured, abused, and killed in my country’s attempt to erase them. I want the world to see this and hold the state accountable to *active* reconciliation> I mean we could at least truly adopt UNDRIP in action instead of words for god’s sake.
