I HATE League of Extraordinary Gentlemen beyond words.

Like, if I had the time and energy to spend into making a YouTube channel, I would dedicate a five hour in-depth analysis video into how literally EVERYTHING about it sucks. EVERYTHING - as an adaptation of different novels especially, but it also fails as a story in itself.

And it's such a shame too, because it's like... the idea of Victorian Era superheroes/villains comin together to save England had SO MUCH potential, but sadly Alan Moore was more interested in adding mindless racism and graphic SV for just... edgy value points. It's just a terrible story, even in the first two volumes - after that it just becomes "Mina is so cool and MORE gratuitous violence" and I just... I can't summarize how awful it is in one post, guys.

Man I haven't even seen project hail mary yet, but I'm seeing so many aus and fan creations where Grace meets and saves different characters in different pieces of media who went to space and never got a happy ending, and now I'm crying.

The Hail Mary is supposed to be a symbol of hope right? Well now I'm out here crying because its literally a beacon of hope for all these otherwise tragic characters. They get to be happy. Because of the Hail Mary.

The Creature calling itself Viktor and following Viktor around is so much more tragic when you know how babies develop and how newborns don't yet realise they and their mothers are two separate people. And one of the first things babies realise about themselves is that they're a whole separate person. And one of the first things they do when they start developing as a person is find out they have hands and play with them and with textures and start exploring. And when they want to start talking, they put their hands and fingers on their parents lips and throats to figure out how that sound is coming out of there and then they start imitating. Guillermo Del Toro nailed every single step of human development in such a beautiful celebration of life.

And Viktor abused the crap out of the poor creature for not being smart enough when it was only following natural developmental milestones. Because, like most men, like his own father, he wanted to create life but he wasn't interested in raising it beyond that and instead wanted it to be born a doctor ready to show the world how smart Viktor is for creating a carbon copy of his brain except in a stronger immortal body. Elizabeth gave him five minutes of love and let him explore how sounds come out of her mouth and he started talking.

Idk why some people are complaining about the movie being different from the book when the essence is literally the same, Viktor created life as if it were a godly feat and not something women have been doing since the dawn of humanity, and then he abandoned that life as deadbeat dads do. And that abandonment is what created a monster out of an innocent souls who could have become a beautiful being had it been nurtured. That's literally what Mary Shelley wrote. She would have been proud of this story. On top of being an incredibly gorgeous visual story, the narrative is very loyal to the point Shelley wanted to make.

"No, no, I'm confident we replicated the late Dr Jekyll's formula exactly," the alchemist contradicted. "The reconstructed notes were pretty clear, once we corrected for the impurity in the salt. It simply does not work as intended." She peered up at the reddened face of her client. "At least, the formula does not 'sever people from their morality', as you put it."

"Then what does it do!" he burst out.

"Cause a transformation!" the alchemist said cheerfully. "Very substantial ones in some cases."

"What the devil do you mean some cases?" her client spluttered angrily.

She sighed. It was a crying shame that people rich enough to fund questionable alchemical research never seemed to have any love for the subject. "Well, none of the mice seemed to change at all. But most of the cats became much, much bigger. And our first human volunteer turned into a dragon!"

The man's eyes bulged in bewildered incomprehension. "What?!"

"Yes, unfortunately she did make off with an entire bottle of serum and will no longer return our calls, but I'm sure she'll be back when she runs out."

There was more spluttering and more eye-bulging. Another day, another disappointed financier that would not get their money back. "How is that even possible! That isn't even close to what the serum was designed for! Nowhere near the effect it had on Jekyll!"

"Mm, yes," the alchemist hummed with a wry smile. "My current theory is that your Dr Jekyll wasn't a very nice man." She turned her back on him with a swoosh of her soot-stained lab coat. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have a paper to write! My results will have far more credibility in the occult community now that I didn't find what you were looking for."
