"the day hums sweetly when you have enough bees working for you."
It isn’t often that Alsaine gets distracted on the job. The undercity is dangerous, moreso for her these days. In the waning days of the war, a tip from a sympathetic (if rather annoying) clone is all that saved her from the firebomb that claimed her apartment. Credits were frozen, assets were seized, she was branded a separatist sympathizer. Overnight she fell from icon to pariah, though that would not be the harshest fall from grace the republic would see.
Old contacts would take her in, and put her nose for information to use. Digging up secrets for blackmail to be used by the family that took her in, buying and selling data to make herself useful. It was on one of these fact finding outings she found herself at a dead stop. Gazing up at a larger than life advertisement for some perfume or other. It wasn’t the product that caught her attention however, it was the model.
Deena looked the same that she always had. Confident, alluring, beautiful. It had been years since they had seen one another, just as long since they had spoken. It had crossed Allie’s mind to reach out several times over the years, but with her new circumstances, and the fact that Deena is still the government that tried to kill her put a dampener on those ideas.
Dee was a friend. They were close to being more than that, but times changed. Allie wasn’t sure Deena would even recognize who she had become. The braids, the makeup, the leather - she carried a blaster now too, something the old her never would. Deena, as best as she could tell from the snippets of holonews she could stomach and the articles that she read, was the same as ever. Intrepid, a little reckless, but knew when to toe the line.
A depressing part of Allie’s brain wondered if the person Deena cared about was still inside her or not. Long ago were the days of the staunchly pacifist investigative reporter-
“Langely.” It was a word, spoken like warning. Kanir, her handler. Her head snapped back to the front, and she took up her place a half pace behind him. There was work to be done, but her old friend wouldn’t leave the back of her mind. Not for a long time afterward.
[ @holonetnews a little something for you too bb]

✒️ First and foremost, I need someone who can keep up with me. Playful banter, matching wits. Someone with a sharp tongue and a sharper mind, anything short of that simply will not do!
For every "♡" I get I'll give a tip on how to win my muse's heart.

Just a little late, but hey! Alsaine Langley, coming to a tabletop near you @holonetnews
There are stories about what happened. It’s true, all of it.

This is - a suicide mission? Not only would I have to leave the safety of my apartment, but go off world to tatooine where have no contacts, into Jabba’s Palace and lay a hand on one of the most powerful crime lords in the galaxy. Am I summarizing that correctly?

I can neither confirm nor deny
Rumor has it that you're actually a better HoloReporter than Deena Tharen.
Send “Rumor has it...” And a rumor about my muse -ACCEPTING--
.I disagree, emphatically. While I disagree with what HNN as a network stands for as an organization, Deena is a driven reporter who consistently delivers hard-hitting news against the will of her producers. She’s brilliant, detail oriented, and when it comes to her work she does not take no for an answer, even when risking a detriment to her own standing within the HNN cooperate structure. Though, I appreciate the intended compliment.

It does say quite a lot, actually

Finally, a verifiable rumour. Unfortunately, it seems I do have an engagement. A reservation at Rin Cappelli’s in the senate district for two, but as it just so happens the second seat at my table is yours. Hopefully some of Alderaan’s best imported cuisine will undo any ego bruising I’ve done tonight?

Well I suppose The Count needs to catch up on the news somehow, can’t exactly rely on HNN for unbiased reporting. No offense, Dee, if you see this!
