“I think he’s coming to.”
Friyr licked a line of drool from his mouth that had long since dampened his shirt beneath. Funny. Considering his mouth was dry. The thick mucus strings tasted like he’d he’d sucked on a perfumed hutt.
Wait. Friyr blinked. His jaw muscle’s memory of thick blubber slicing beneath his teeth as he kicked at the floor, beat until tender and suffocating underneath the weight of an overgrown slug. Friyr wretched and coughed up another wave of mucus that slid down his chin. He smelled blood, though the distinct taste wasn’t in his mouth.
He exhaled and propped his hand against padding of the seat he was sprawled on, like some sort of inelegant ragdoll in pleather a size too tight. He groaned through his teeth as pain lanced through battered bones. Friyr exhaled. His chest was tight and a dull ache in his ribs promised to keel him over if he tried to find his footing.
“Aya aliyana su, Friyr. Rua khoe Su uchu ik wich'a kho p'u?”
Green. Way too much green. If she was wearing a shirt at all, it was a flimsy one. He could feel that from the soft echoes of their voices, though right now? That could’ve been the sound floating in and out of his head.
Friyr scoffed (ow) and spat foul fluid out. “Did-- did I win, Master Tabris?”
“Well, you’re not dead, so I—” The alien words still had her tongue twisted around.
“Are you proud of me?” he asked. His jaw moved awkwardly. Either the numbness in his cheek was welling or someone had finally chipped it back into place.
“I—Padawan, of course I’m—” As Master Tabris flustered, the sound ebbed out of Friyr’s ears in favor of a deeper ringing. He couldn’t feel his body. Taking advantage of the numbness, he moved his hand to the part of his face that was suspiciously and pleasantly hot. They came back wet from the stream of blood pouring from his left eye.
He grinned and laughed in blissful forgetfulness. He didn’t manage a wheeze before the burgeoning pain in his ribs kicked him like a mule and Friyr’s pretty blue eyes rolled back.
When he woke up next his master wasn’t there.

Galactic Standard Time Measurement
60 Seconds = 1 minute
60 minutes = 1 hour
24 hours = 1 day
Galactic Standard Calendar
5 days = 1 week
7 weeks = 1 month
35 days = 1 month
368 days = 1 year
10 months + 3 Fete (Festival) weeks + 3 holidays = 1 year
Fete/Festival Weeks
New Year Fete Week = first five days of the new year (takes place before the first month)
Festival of Life = five days between the sixth and seventh months. It was marked by parties, get-togethers, and gift-giving.
Festival of Stars =five days between the ninth and tenth months of the year that celebrates interstellar space travel. It was marked by vacations to other worlds most often.
Days of the Week
Primeday (first day of the week)
Centaxday (second day)
Taungsday (third day)
Zhellday (fourth day)
Benduday (fifth/last day of the week)
The Galactic Standard Calendar is based on the luno-solar calendar of Coruscant (from before the official founding of the Empire). It is the ‘standard’ in both the Republic and the Empire for basic measurements. However, there are many, many variations for various species, planets, etc. This is just the ‘standard’ used; similar to measurements of weight, etc.
Basically, this is not the ‘only calendar’ but the one used most often by governments, the military, etc. to be the ‘standard’. I thought it might be useful for people writing or roleplaying in the Star Wars galaxies to have a rough idea.
NOTE: There is mention in some sources of a 12 month/368 day calendar, but it doesn’t mention length of weeks, months, etc. other than ‘30-31 days’ so basically seems to be a ‘real life calendar’. I’m not 100% sure which is considered ‘canon’ so I choose to list the one that was a bit more ‘different’ for fun.

“Look, once a species starts in on that blood purity nonsense, one can just assume they’re all neurotic inbred messes. Once you take away the superiority complexes and anger problems, they’re all nervous as racehorses.”

Did you just… call Sith Thoroughbreds?
Nan, you’re a genius.

Do they have any distinguishing marks? (Tattoos, scars, ect.); Are they religious?; What jobs have they held?; Who have they dated/slept with? Why did none of those relationships work?; What was their best life experience?; How do they cope with death? How about anger?
Do they have any distinguishing marks? (Tattoos, scars, ect.)
Friyr is distinct with his albinism, but also has a red tattoo of the Imperial insignia on his inner wrist, and a line of scarification across both cheeks in the shape of a very uneasy Cheshire grin. In terms of piercings Friyr’s gotten his ears, nipples, bellybutton, and ahem, other places done. During his Apprenticeship, he collects heaps of scars upon scars down his left side. This culminates in a debilitating facial disfigurement to the left side of his face. Friyr is the most distinct person to ever have existed. It’s very easy to pick him out of any sort of line up.
Are they religious?
Friyr is agnostic at best; if there is a Force his belief in it won’t save him. Even as a Sith, he seems reluctant to evolve this stance and while his belief in the Force changes, his opinion stubbornly retains its cynical disposition. Perhaps this explains his initial mediocrity with the Force more than any biological marker, like midichlorians. Unfortunately, Friyr never came to terms with his faith and such an assertion can’t be tested, since Ignolis took it upon himself to Force Friyr’s connection to the Force wider, essentially plaguing him with a presence he wants to remain apathetic toward.
What jobs have they held?
A pick-pocket, a conman, slave, counterfeiter, Sith Bastard Friyr can be called many things – none of them with a good connotation, but the only job title he’s held has been “Slave” until he becomes a Sith Apprentice under the House of W’ks.
Who have they dated/slept with? Why did none of those relationships work?
· Friyr’s dated one boy. Slept with? Eh, amedley of people. Very few he’s actively desired to sleep with, but it’s a living. He’s been engaged once.
Leaving aside thestring of lovers Friyr’s not really desired nor cared to get to know, hisrelationship didn’t work out because of a forced codependency outside of their relationship.Friyr couldn’t stay emotionally accountable to his partner, and his partner couldn’tcope. Any chance of him ending therelationship on his own terms was taken by his master who sold the boy uponmaking Friyr his apprentice. His engagement didn’t work out for a number ofreasons. It was 1) politically arranged 2) As much as Friyr tried to remain agood partner, he never could remain a fully available partner for a woman 3)the codependency on Kurt Wax existed 4) Friyr wasfundimentally unhappy in the Empire.
What was their best life experience?
His best life experience was the day he survived Korriban. As the scene direction I’ve written says: Friyr emerges from the tomb bloodied and near death with a lightsaber clenched in his fist.
How do they cope with death? How about anger?
Friyr compartmentalizes death into the back of his mind. He lets the details of his grief play out in the background, resulting in churlish or childish behavior, an anger and injustice that was only amplified when he learned how to take a life.
Friyr used to compartmentalize anger and let it burn through him, leaving any remaining resentment as a new cynical philosophy he’s adopted. Anger and injustice are a truth in his life. When he becomes a Sith, he’s learned to ignore it and to focus on his own happiness (albeit to the detriment of others’) until Ignolis denies his bodily autonomy and forces Sith alchemy onto Friyr as a “punishment and gift.” Years of compounded rage and fear surface into a bloody primal emotion he cannot control. Afraid and forcing down years and years of undealt with pain, Friyr flees the Empire to seek out the Jedi, hoping that the beast he sees inside himself can somehow be contained.
I’m making a character outline for my Jedi Knight’s background! While I’m answering these questions in a Word doc, I thought I’d take some of my favorite answers and post them. Done in ask format because I honestly wasn’t thinking.
Bad grammar ahoy because I never really intended these to see the light of day and editing is for cowards.
I LOVE THIS.
must a star wars movie be good? is it not enough to see threepio, unhinged?
Arrrrgh I love you and your art and like the person before me, I came for SWTOR (and LANA) but stayed because your art is amazing and you are too!
You just made Lana feel super smug right now.Ty for the continuous support <3
every time i’m in the middle of something else there’s a new star wars trailer
Friyr for @q-oetry 😌💕
Sometimes, if one caught the disfigured Jedi at the wrong angle (or the right one as it may be) it was a reminder that he had used to be quite handsome. Not that Friyr’s unwavering grin gave anyone a reason to think anything otherwise. Somehow, the man was still the biggest pretty boy in the room. Scars included.
Look at this amazing art of my stupid stupid Jedi. He’s so bad at his job and always looks stoned, but damn if he doesn’t look good doing it.

I may have reblogged this before but
I’m just still in absolute awe of them
how are they so beautiful
the dark side is not inherently evil and the light side is not inherently good all of star wars media is just stupid and wrong
ok please reblog this version instead because i’m actually gonna elaborate on this point:
forgive me for being blunt, but i personally view the interpretation of “dark side = evil” and “light side = good” as just plain stupid because the force is just another layer of reality. it’s like saying the speed of light is evil because it prevents you from traveling cosmic distances instantaneously.
also, by saying the dark side is inherently evil, you run into a severe problem with the sith purebloods, who are described as having a “genetic preposition to the dark side” (x). the ancient sith on korriban had a society that revolved around the usage of the dark side, and so by saying the dark side is inherently evil, you’re also saying that a whole species and culture is also inherently evil.
yikes.
so, my interpretation of the dark side vs. the light side is partly inspired by this post about force-healing, as well as some analysis made by the lorekeeper during his kotor playthrough (i think he went into it in like the first episode?)
to put it simply, the difference between dark and light is aggressiveness vs. passiveness.
“but kaleb, you said that the dark side isn’t inherently evil, so why are you saying that it’s aggressive?”
aggressive as a word has a negative connotation, sure, but it’s not automatically bad. at the roots, to be aggressive is to be forceful and assertive, and not backing down from confrontation. on it’s own, that’s not a bad thing. to say it more positively, you could call it bold or just taking initiative.
conversely, the light side being passive isn’t inherently good. passive just means to allow things to happen without a reaction. sometimes being passive can be a good thing, like just choosing not to give a bigot your attention, since that’s what they want. on the flip side, passiveness can also be terrible, such as standing by while that bigot goes on to call for violence against a certain minority.
of course, that’s just the general, black and white view of it, and there’s a lot more nuance to it than just action vs. inaction.
so, how about the difference between dark side powers vs. light side powers? because, like i said, it’s not just doing something vs. doing nothing.
you know how i said that the force is just another layer of reality? yeah, that was an important thing to remember:
light side abilities do not alter reality, exactly. they actually fit in pretty well with how we understand physics: energy cannot be created or destroyed, at least not under usual circumstances.
if a light-sider were to enhance their own strength with the force, it’d be by drawing on the energy around them. and, once they were done, that energy would return to where it came from. it’s passive in that the force-user isn’t acting on reality itself, or twisting the force in an unnatural way. all they’re really doing is redirecting energy, which is something that already occurs.
the dark side is different, and this is why i say that it’s aggressive. the dark side doesn’t follow physics like we understand it, and in fact breaks the above law i stated: energy cannot be created or destroyed.
if a dark-sider wanted to make themself stronger, they wouldn’t draw on the energy around them. rather, through the dark side and their own strength of will, they’d create energy for their body to use. they’d change how their body usually functions to make it stronger, or faster, or whatever else they wanted. the dark side is about taking the reins of your own biology, and doing it solely with your own power. and they get to keep that energy, because they made it.
the light side works in tandem with the natural order, the dark side breaks it, and that’s the difference.
but this doesn’t make the light side better and the dark side evil, because you can still do terrible things with both sides.
if we go back to my light side example, you could, in theory, draw so much energy out of someone else that you actually kill them. you could, quite literally, suck the life out of them. sure, you couldn’t hold onto that energy forever, but it’d only return to a rotting corpse, and once you die, you’re dead. even if all that energy comes back to your body, all it’s going to do is transform into something else as your body decays. you’re not breaking any natural laws, and you’re not using your own strength, so that’s still a light side technique, though it’s very obviously cruel and evil.
and on the other side, the dark side can be used for good. using the dark side, you could heal someone by altering their own biology. say if they’ve got a broken bone? using the dark side, you could force that bone to come together again, with the added bonus of not actually taking energy from anything else, but rather energy that you created yourself.
but the big problem with using dark side powers is that you’re breaking the laws of physics. luckily, these powers are used on a small enough scale that they don’t have a huge consequence for reality itself, but over time they can break down an individual. continuing to create new energy, over and over, can give you short-term advantages, but it will break you down in the future.
“we know about dark side corruption already, but what about the light side? if they’re not actually altering reality, it can’t really hurt, right?”
the consequences of leaning too much towards the light aren’t super obvious, and are more psychological than physical, but they’re there.
to really see the consequences of light side corruption, we should look at the jedi order of the prequel trilogy. particularly at yoda, aka the stupidest motherfucker of the era.
you heard me. yoda’s a fucking idiot.
he’s so hopped up on the light side, of concerning himself with not upsetting the natural order and a complete rejection of the dark side, that he is completely inactive. he is complacent with the presence of slavery and corruption in the galaxy. sure, he might acknowledge it’s there and that it’s bad, but it’s always “ah, but do anything we cannot”
yoda and the jedi order of this era are so concerned with peace that they allow themselves to be slaves and tools of the corrupt government–they accept the slave army that is given to them and they use it rather than standing up and saying “no! this isn’t right!” they are all so spineless that they fight a war engineered by palpatine rather than trying to find a peaceful solution to it.
another consequence of the light side is a prolonged lifespan, which could explain why yoda is so damn old.
but there’s something else about the light side…
you know how vitiate destroyed all life on ziost to gain power?
that’s a light side technique.
because vitiate wasn’t making his own power from nothing, he was taking it from everyone on ziost. he literally sucked the life out of everyone and everything there, and he did it earlier on nathema.
huh, nathema…
when we first see it, nathema is desolate and broken because valkorion/vitiate is still technically alive, and is still holding onto that energy it gave him when he performed the ritual.
but the next time we go to nathema, after valkorion is dead once and for all, what’s happened? everything is growing back, as if energy and life has returned to the planet.
according to my perspective, the ritual valkorion used on nathema and ziost was a light side technique.
*mic drop*
“Can we please not talk about my Master?” Friyr cringed and unbundled the cloak Teran had given him from his knapsack. NM-1 grumbled.
“I’m not into green skin; I can barely even see the color green.”
The droid grumbled some more and plucked at the fabric. Friyr smirked tiredly. He felt pallid. This was a visual word he’d been told, but for Friyr it had always been a feeling. Pallid. Pallid was when he was tired, perhaps weak from illness and fevered. It was fatigue. He’d felt pallid in the tombs.
He rolled the fabric between his fingers and gently tugged it from the little droid’s pincers. “I don’t have a fetish for green, thanks.” Friyr ran the smooth silk between his fingers and opened himself to feeling Teran’s twin sister through the threads. Though he didn’t know her the galaxy twinkled back at him in a way that felt reassuring and not as though he were about to jump out of his bones. The Knight had said she was missing. “I just feel like it’s time to apologize to a lot of people,” Friyr murmured.
NM-1 grumbled. His lens shuttered suspiciously.
Friyr laughed. It felt like an out of body experience the more it swelled out of his chest. The sound of his own voice tangled with the individual swells of the Force in everyone and everything. She gutted Ven Zallow the same way she made heather feather the lush mountain rocks.
Friyr had to draw himself back inside himself. His fists knuckled as though gripping himself around his edges and pulling himself back into the ragged edges of his body. When he came back to himself, he was pressed up against the tree, NM-1 crouched securely over his body. The bark stuck sharply into his spine, and the nearby waterfall drowned out the Force in a solid way. The little droid was warm as though he’d pushed himself out of conservation mode in an overheated panic. His metal stilts encircled Friyr, and Friyr tapped at them until he crawled off the former Sith.
He grumbled in a way that sounded like static concern as Friyr resettled his bearings against the tree and pressed one knee to his chest. He shivered. Tython had suddenly turned cold.
Or maybe there’s nothing here, and you’re just attracted more to the Dark Side than most.
Wasn’t that what Teran had said? The Light. The Dark. All of it overwhelmed him, since… since… Since he could hear the Force.
“George?”
The droid grumbled and tapped Friyr’s knee to let the blind man know where he was. Friyr slid his hands over the warm carapace and pulled the droid into his lap. He was unwieldy but the hum that traveled through him was solid.
