They seemed a lot like the Guado of her time; they seemed distant and reserved, but unlike back then there was no talk of killing her as an intruder. Or that was what she had been told as a child. That the Guado were a peculiar and somewhat savage race with a strong dislike of the humans. They thought they were superior to the humans due to being guardians of the Farplane, but the humans disagreed and saw them as inferior. But these were not the savage and proud Guado of the stories. Had they been, she would have been left wounded by the side of the road, waiting to be torn apart by fiends.
There were pictures on the wall; portraits of men of the past. As she observed the details of their facial features, she heard the door being pushed open but barely paid any attention to it. The old Guado male who had brought her to this place said it was out of hospitality, but she remained dubious.
So rare were visitors, yet Tromell still made a point to welcome them in the most personal way he could. To bring them here, let them see inside the home of Seymour and of his forefathers, was a sight few could claim to have seen. His reasoning was unclear, but Seymour guessed it was a meagre effort to make up for past transgressions; a tiny gift to any human willing to give him their time. His loyalty was firmly with his lord, but his nature was too kind to pass up a chance to extend friendship. It was risky, of course, but until today, Seymour had been perfectly obliging when Tromell had asked him to stay hidden; to remain in his rooms, or elsewhere, where no human might lay eyes on him. It was an accident, in truth. Seymour had not realised that Tromell had brought a visitor in today. But when he emerged onto the staircase and saw a stranger standing in his way, he made no effort to conceal himself, or turn back. If he had been of a mind to do so, the sharp, cold scent of pyreflies would have kept him from it regardless.
“Welcome.” he smiled, almost genuinely, as he observed her for her reaction. “Has Tromell left you here alone? My sincerest apologies. Guests are a rare pleasure for him, these days - I have no doubt that he is preparing the dining room for you.”
