Lorelei speaks at the end!
They say, the relationship truly starts to feel real when you meet each others family.
But it's felt real since the day Damian came knocking on your window, with a blood soaked suit and a secret on his tongue he only wanted you to know.
He was freshly fifteen, and you, fourteen when you had fallen in love, madly.
Ever since that day of him almost dying and unconsciously confessing his young love to you, it's been real.
But you have to admit, meeting his family would seal the deal further.
With the holidays coming up, it gives you a good excuse to meet these people he complains about on late nights when Bruce goes too rough on him without knowing.
Damian has met your family countless times, they consider him one of their own, your father going as far as to giving him his blessing already to marry you.
He's gotten a taste of what it would be like to be apart of yours, but what about his?
You stand there, in his hoodie, fuzzy sweatpants and teddy bear themed socks, stirring the hot chocolate in a pot while also simultaneously pouring the peppermint flavoring inside. Damian is holding your waist humming an Arabic song underneath his breath.
He is in grey sweatpants without a shirt because he may have accidentally wiped some chocolate cake batter on it.
"Look at you, making a mess of me, again." Damian would mutter, faking annoyance.
You on the other hand are laughing as he tries to wipe the thick batter off on the sink, the batter flying on his very expensive shirt.
You continue to stir, letting the mixture simmer for a bit. Your thoughts start to wander a bit and before you know it, you were blurting out your next words.
"Why don't we spend Christmas at your family's house?"
Damian stills, his humming paused and eyes now wide open.
"You know how they are beloved.-" Damian breathes, hoping you didn't hear the gulp in the back of his throat. His hand now sliding underneath his your hoodie.
"I know." You whisper exasperated, your free hand finding his on your stomach. "But I feel like after three years of being together, I should at least meet them once." You shrug, finishing off the warm peppermint hot chocolate and pouring it in the Santa shaped mug.
Damian slowly, and begrudgingly lets you go to go grab the mug, sighing through his teeth. He shakes his head and leans against the wooden counter, now sipping the minty chocolatey drink you have made him.
Damian thinks about your proposition, annoyingly finding it ridiculous (he knows you're right).
After three final sighs, he looks down at his matching socks that you begged him to wear, and grumbles, "fine."
That's all you need to hear before you're jumping up and down screaming, "yes!" over and over again.
He's about to say something snarky then you kiss you softly, making everything go away. He would let you move in if this is the reaction he got each time.
It isn't too long before you run off to your room to find the perfect outfit to meet his "annoying and overbearing" family.
And it isn't too long before Damian realizes he's made a huge mistake.
Running a hand through his jet black hair, Damian chugs the peppermint drink down and starts to imagine every little thing that could and can go wrong.
Damian Al Ghul- Wayne was utterly and inexplicitly, fucked.
It was like time was nothing but a mere thought this December, ever since Damian signed his life away (let you meet his family) it was like time never existed.
It was now Christmas day, Gotham's streets flooded with snow, people bundled up in balls of clothing, he was even sure Joker had wrapped up his crowbars for this winter.
You came out of the room wearing the outfit he bought for you because he just knew that it would end up on the floor later.
Damian had his usual reaction whenever you came out in any form of clothing (or none at all)
"You're... wow." He would whisper under his breath, his pupils dilated, skin flushed, lips all of a sudden thirsty for yours.
"لا استطيع الانتظار للزواج منك"
You stand there, full of smiles, this man was going to be your first and last love, and he knew it too. Because the way the snow brightened your eyes, the way you stood tall and fierce, made him fall in love with you over and over again.
He knew he would surely go mad if anyone were to ruin you, that was for him to do, him to choose, and him for you. You both were mad in a way, but all you knew is that as long as you both were near one another, the world would be safe from your wrath.
Damian offers his arm to you, leading you to the car.
As you both walk down the narrow sidewalk to the car, he whispers sweet nothings to you and you tell them right back to him. How funny it was not knowing that today would be a test for your relationship.
You both stand, hands intertwined, Damian with his scowl, you with a smile, in front of the Wayne manor.
"If you wish to leave, I am not against your choice, my family is a lot, I understand. Their incompetence gets to me greatly each day beloved, I assume you will feel the same." Damian deadpans while also running his thumb along the back of your hand.
"I'm sure I'll be fine, Dami." You whisper with a small laugh, to which Damian just merely "tt's", already having a sick feeling.
Damian opens the door with a big sigh, not exactly ready to face the horrors to come.
You on the other hand are just happy to be here. What could go wrong?
(The answer is everything by the way)
The sight before you should have been a red flag.
Jason is chasing Dick with a knife, Tim is ripping out his hair due to the fact Kon is flying in this weather (despite the literal fact that Kon is a meta), Cass and Steph are cuddling near the fire, which would be cute if they weren't talking about killing everyone, Duke is trying to calm a fire in the kitchen, and Bruce is kissing Selina underneath the obvious mistletoe he put.
Damian stands there unfazed but angry at the fact that this is his future partners first impression of his family.
Alfred practically runs to the door when he sees the two lovebirds enter.
"Master Damian... and?" Alfred hums looking at you with an inquisitive look.
You tell him your name and he realizes who you are. Damian always talks about you in private to him, but he's never been able to put the name to the face.
You were the person who let Damian become softer in every way.
And each day, Alfred silently thanks for your existence, without you, Damian would still be that angry little boy that first entered the manor.
"Oh! My dear goodness, I will start on the roast." Alfred says quickly, before he runs to the kitchen to help the fire.
Damian glances at you to gauge your reaction, so far you seem unfazed as well. which is a good sign. But he would also have to wait for dinner.
Dinner came pretty fast, with everyone being detectives, they didn't notice you both sitting at the table talking about future wedding plans.
But when they did notice, all hell broke lose.
The table was set with large lavish decorations, flower centers and plates that costed more than your well being. You and Damian close together and plates packed with food.
Here is how each interrogation went.
Dick was sitting on the row in front of you, two seats down, next to Bruce.
"So..." He mumbles at the quiet table, pushing around his food.
"How did you meet our little bird?"
"Through school, we met in AP English, and I kind of forced my way into his heart, at least that's what he said."
"Huh... have you two kissed?"
"I don't know how you want me to answer that."
"Fair. Do you know his secret?"
"That he shaves his chest?"
"Oh, not that one."
"No! The other one."
"That he's robin? Yes I know."
Damian threw a knife at him.
Duke was next on the interrogation kick. He was staring you down, but more normally than the others were.
"Ignoring the obvious DICK in the room." Duke rolls his eyes at the man three seats down from him.
"Have you told him you love him?"
"Yes, he said it first."
"Weird... why him?"
"Why anybody? He's the one for me, I've known it since we first locked eyes."
"Gross, but cute. You aren't like a villain or anything right? I just handled a fire and I am in no shape to fight right now."
"More on that, 'he shaves his chest' thing, does he wax or-"
Damian threatened to tell everyone that Duke's favorite movie is Bring it on.
Tim was a few seats down from you and Damian, he was sitting down on his phone typing rapidly, currently hacking into your phone and everything that you own.
Instead of talking he found incriminating evidence of Damian by looking through your hidden photos, he would interrogate you later.
Due to everyone being threatened by Damian and Bruce to shut up, everyone was forced to eat and say "nice things" about the little bird and not be invasive towards you.
Overall dinner went smoothly, you answered as many questions as you can. Cass actually seemed to like you, while Dick seemed to love you.
He saw this as an opportunity to gather embarrassing content of Damian only you could achieve
Everything was going well until what the family calls to this day, "the peppermint loop."
After dinner, you helped cleaned up and set up a little snack board for the family to sit by the fire and get to know you better.
Damian was sat on the couch, Duke was on a chair, Cass and Steph on each other, Tim sitting on the floor next to the couch, Bruce on a bigger chair, Dick laying dramatically on the floor, and Jason beside you.
It was quiet until you gasp and take out a tiny little peppermint candy. "I found this in the kitchen for you, it's your favorite!" You smile giving it to Damian.
Damian's face falls, the batfamily stares at you with wide eyes, and now you're sitting there in confusion.
Damian gives you a small tiny smile before eating it. "Shut up." He deadpans to everyone.
It takes them five seconds to disobey his order. Jason being the start by laughing like he was never allowed to.
"Oh my god." He whispers, and now you were met by a group of smiles, even Bruce.
"Our boy's in love, LOVE!" Dick yells, throwing his hands up.
"What is happening?" You can't help but smile at everyone.
Jason, of course is the first to speak up.
"Your future husband? He HATES peppermints." Jason smiles at you, watching your smile fade into an open mouth gasp.
Damian glares at everyone in the room, knowing it would be best to just drag you out of this place.
"Wait, you mean this whole time, you hated peppermints?" You whisper, crossing your arms.
Damian doesn't say anything, it seems as though he is plotting everyone's murder.
"This is like you telling me you actually hate my romance books, you love them-!"
Dick laughs, "he hates romance books."
This time you just stare at Damian.
Cassandra's turn to talk.
"He doesn't like those either."
You tilt your head at the man next to you.
"The chocolate I always give you?"
Steph smiles and shakes her head, "he only likes this one particular chocolate from his hometown."
You're now running a hand through your hair, how many times has this man lied to you just because of the fact he loves you?
"What about your favorite color? Is it not blue?"
Now Bruce for once in his life, knew this like the back of his hand. "It's green."
Now it feels like you're having a mid-life crisis.
"Let me guess, you don't enjoy my romcoms?"
Duke, laughs, loudly. "He prefers documentaries, trust me. I have heard more facts about animals than how he is on a daily."
You, now starting to believe you knew nothing about this man.
For all you know, he could be the real Batman.
And in the first time in bat-family history, they saw Damian "Nothing can scare me" Al Ghul-Wayne, scared of a person with a glare that could kill.
"Look, beloved, you were so happy when you gave me that first peppermint drink, I just didn't have the heart to tell you-" Damian starts and ends because Jason cuts him off.
"You literally don't have a heart." Jason says sarcastically blinking at him.
Damian immediately turns to Jason's direction, now even more pissed at the fact that he cut him off. But mainly at the fact that his whole family could have shut their mouth's when talking about what he truly "liked."
"I saw Jason making out with Roy a few months ago." Damian deadpans, and just like that, the room fell silent again.
Damian stares at you, sighing softly. Tucking a hair behind your ear and now holding your hand. He ignores his family now yelling at Jason for not telling them about his own secret romance, he focuses on you.
To tell you the truth, he never really liked any of those things his family mentioned. He likes what you like because of how happy it makes you, and when you're happy he's happy.
And that is what Christmas is all about.
And Damian loves you and your interests.
But not those peppermints.
God, he fucking hates peppermints.
Maybe Damian is happy about "the Peppermint loop."
Not Jason though, he is still recovering five years later from that bomb Damian decided to blow up during your first Christmas at the manor.
