Some internet-generated things.
We had a group meetiing recently, and I find it was quite productive, we have divided our so far research into several categories. I understood, that I actually love group work, when people do stuff and share enthusiasm with each other. Main things we got: - markets and its displays, the way things are arranged, price tags etc - signs and wayfinding - homeless peopleâs plates/beggars - digital combinations, based on peopleâs most popular videos and objects of google search - marking places and things (parking places, cups) - fixing clothes (a rubber band instead of a button when people get fat) - internet mems and gif-animation, the way people develop imagery
This is an object I created to hang earrings on, cause when they were lying in a plate it was inconvenient to take. Made out of paperclips, it helps to divide pairs.
The display from the market. A folk way to display milk products.
Perfectly undesigned things. Russian DIY.
I have read in Sagmeisterâs âThings I have learned so farâ, that he took a small risk/experiment as often as possible. I know I am in a bit of frozen state, and always was. I am afraid to make a mistake. So I have decided to take a first risk -- to have an e-sketchbook. I am afraid of a wrong layout/typography/whatever. So I will free myself. Itâs a sketchbook, and I want to break rules and donât care, itâs a process, it should be enjoying.
This is how people try to solve problems. Funny signs in Riga. I would put it in 'unprofessional' category. Boiled eggs' packaging by my boyfriend. Would say, it was spontaneous. A lovely carpet. Frightening mannequins, that were supposed to communicate a brand. Generally, I would say it is soooo much easier to find bad decision making than really good problem solving. Need to think a bit through.
I got mixed feelings. On the one hand, it is cool that it is that open, kind of gives opportunities and more directions to go. On the other, I kind of panic. Because this openness has almost no constraints. I understand, that I need to build them myself, so I would feel better. Hopefully, working as a team would be productive. I have not the nicest experience. At first, was quite anxious, when saw âCommutication designâ in the brief, cause that meant just visual âundesignedâ things, but now it is just the design part, and that makes me comfy. I have read the given articles, and loved the idea of deconstruction of the brief and having sub-problems. I also think Trello is not that suitable for me in a long time, I need a more scheduled thing. Probably, would be better with a printed timetable, that would include projects alltogether.
I'm a fairly messy designer. It doesn't show in my work, but my process is messy.
