“don’t———“ he’s holding his breath, just waiting for something to go wrong. if he hadn’t been so wrapped up in his thoughts, jude would have noticed her sooner. he was almost been to late, but he wouldn’t be to blame if she completely ignored his warning. “step where you’re about to step. ever heard of a trap?” his entire body tenses as a hand reaches cautiously behind his hiding place to where his staff rests. one knock to the head, and he was sure this girl would be out cold – an option he liked to have in case she decided to attack with that machete. hazel eyes anxiously study the redhead.
Arya didn't obey orders from anyone... but that didn't mean she was going to be stupid and ignore the male's words. Especially since she had nothing to gain from taking that one step forward. "Holy shit, dude, you should secure your traps easier," She scoffed, taking a step backwards and crossing her arms. "What would you have done if someone had come running by and not caught your warning on time? Let them die? Sounds pretty damn irresponsible."
it had only been about a month, since she had settled in camp avalon. elena usually wouldn’t have been one for settling down in a place, growing up in a strict and closed off place and she didn’t want that. but she had been traveling for so long, and people had come and gone in her life. even love wasn’t enough to keep them, it wasn’t strong enough to let her keep ayra. leaning back against the small pole, it hadn’t been long since she had come back from a small scavenging trip but it never failed to make her a little tired. they had managed to scrounge up a few good medical supplies that the doctor and her staff were asking for which was a success enough in itself and there had only been one small injury on another scavenger, a small scratch that needed a few stitches but that was it. they didn’t even run into much zombies on the way which was a bonus. sometimes she preferred it nice and easy and sometimes she preferred a little fun, a little bit to get the adrenaline pumping but this one hadn’t been like that. she had heard once back that there had been some new arrivals, people added to the camp, a hunter at least which was always needed when any zombies straggled too close to the outer perimeter of the camp which was needed. but she never really paid much attention to the new arrivals. but for some reason she looked up from the knife she was holding, pocketing it when her eyes caught a flash of red and she was sure she had to be seeing things. she didn’t know anyone else who had hair red like that, and that person was supposed to be dead. elena felt her stomach flip, her heart fluttering and god if this was a mirage or a hallucination then it looked so real. when she spoke, her voice was strange and broken even to her own ears, “arya?”
Her hand darted to the chain hanging around her neck as soon as she had regained somewhat control over her body. It was a reminder of the times they had spent together and had often times been a reminder to Arya that there was still good left in this world. As she had been convinced that Elena had died, the chain also turned into something that Arya could hold on to to morn her loss... the only thing that was left of her. Now, eyes on the girl in front of her, by the time that she saw her own name fall from the brunette's lips it was clear that she was either completely losing her mind or that this was the woman that she had lost all that time ago... before her breathing, living and seemingly well. "Elena?" She asked, barely managing to force those words over her lips. "H-How?" A part of her wanted to break out into tears, another part was willing to start laughing and the final part wanted to lock the other female into her arms and never let her go again... but she was unable to do any of those things, seemingly numb as she tried to process what was currently happening.
archer just wanted a pack of cigarettes from some abandoned gas stop, and that’s exactly where he was headed. he had his axe in his hands, holding the blade up towards the sky. to say archer was always prepared was an understatement; it was like the boy didn’t ever experience anxiety in his whole life. with one quick swoop, his opponent was no match. however, he expected his opponent to be someone….dead. not a redheaded girl looking his way, ready to fight. “i don’t know if you want to do that, princess.” archer swiftly showed off one of his moves before returning to his original stance. “you should really put that weapon down; i’m certainly not doing to do anything. unless…you attack me first.”
Her eyes widened slightly, barely enough for anyone to notice it as she realised that her opponent was a living guy, seemingly around her age and that he was keeping his distance instead of going all into fight mode. That didn't mean that he was a good person though, if the world and the humans on it had taught her anything it was not to judge a book by its cover. "Don't call me princess, asshole," she scoffed, though she slowly lowered her weapon, not putting it back into it's safe spot just yet. "Keep that axe lowered then as well," Arya pointed out, eyes darting towards his weapon.
“as you should be,” delaney replied, lifting up a hand to direct arya to the table meant for patients. she pushed the book out of the way, and got her cloth ready. “this is going to hurt, okay? i’ve got to clean it up. so if you’re a pussy, you can go let one of the others help you. i don’t have time for pussies.”
"Go ahead," Arya responded without flinching, though mentally preparing herself for pain. She had gone through far worse already and proceeded to hold her arm closer to the other woman for her to do her job.
was she for real? if the girl wasn’t going to give her her name, why would she give out her own? mina’s eyes rolled at the other. clearly manners was not something she knew of but perhaps they aren’t used to being around others. she shouldn’t be so quick to judge and yet here she was, judging. “ no, no. that’s not how things are going to go. ” if the other was going to meet her words with fire, she might as well just fuck off. mina doesn’t care for mindless arguments. “ i asked you first. you give me your name, i give you mine. if that doesn’t work for you then we can just part ways and not look back. deal? ” her bow lowers but the arrow stays put. if the other tries to come at her with that machete, how long would it take for her to raise and shoot?
Lips pulled into a thin line, she simply nodded in response, eying her once more before finally speaking. "My name's Arya," she introduced herself. After all of the bad experiences she had made she wasn't just going to let her guard down like it was nothing. "Lower your weapon and I'll lower mine." Honestly, greeting her with a weapon in her hand wasn't the kind of treatment this girl should have been giving her if she wanted to 'be friends'.
“jesus christ,” delaney yelped. “i was going to beat the shit out of you. i mean, i know there’s a zombie apocalypse, but manners still exist. knock next time.” she lowered the book in her hands, firmly putting it back on the desk. her eyes darted back up to the person standing before her. “well, what do you want?”
"Sorry," Arya muttered, eyeing the woman sceptically. You'd think a doctor would have stronger nerves than that for sure. "I cut myself on some wire while I was out... I was told to come and see you," she shrugged, showing the gaping cut traced the entirety of her lower arm. Honestly, she had handled worse on her own.
the sound of footsteps is what forced mina to turn around. didn’t she close the door? there was no way a zombie could have opened it. damn it, she should have locked it after herself when she got to that cabin. cautiously, mina started heading away from the rooms she was once looking at to head bak towards the door. that’s when she stopped in her tracks. how did she get behind the ginger, who freaking knows and cares at this point. now it was time to find out what the hell they were doing and if they were going to try and attack her with that weapon. “ yo, behind you. ” mina spoke casually, her bow didn’t drop as she kept it trained on the other. killing another person isn’t something she has done before, not someone who wasn’t bite or already dead at least, but how hard could it possibly be? “ and you are? ”
Arya continued to cautiously move through the house, prepared to encounter zombies, a corpse or two... animals maybe. She had barely been at Camp Avalon a day and she was already getting soft. Hearing the voice behind her, the redhead turned on her heels, weapon gripped steadily in her hand, as she now was able to see her opponent, Arya scoffed at the other person's words. "Who I am is none of your business," she scoffed. "Who are you?" If she was going to go down, she was going down with pride, well aware that she couldn't do anything to save herself once the other woman fired an arrow.
After stumbling upon one of the members of Camp Avalon, Arya had allowed herself to accept the invitation to join them in their camp... at least temporarily. Honestly, after over a year of not being able to sleep out of fear of being attacked in the process of doing so, the redhead was just ready to get some good sleep and regain her energy before leaving again a few days later. All she needed to do in the meantime was assess the area around the camp, keep her head down and avoid contact with any- and everyone. After being shown around and managing to comprehend the way the camp functioned, Arya was on her way through the camp grounds in order to refill her water. Eyes cast downwards, moving quickly, the redhead could feel everyone else staring at her. Raising her gaze in order to glare back at someone, she found herself looking at one of the camps members. Her facial expression fell, she could feel the breath being sucked out of her lungs and her heart sinking as she looked at the familiar appearance of... Elena. There was absolutely no way. She had to be hallucinating. It wouldn't have been the first time.
Arya was steadily bringing some distance between her and Camp Avalon. Eyes wearily scanning over the area, the redhead decided that she had been walking long enough and settled down in the shadow of a nearby tree, reaching for her bag to pull out a water bottle as she considered her next moves. If she was already being welcomed into a camp, she wanted to at least aid the people who were welcoming her with something in return. The least she could do was sucessfully find some loot to bring back with her. Arya wasn't the type of person to owe anyone anything. Though she believed to be the only person around, the redhead was started to hear movement behind her, immediately turning and ready to defend herself.
“——— stop !!” urgency claws at his throat, and the words fall from chapped lips as he stumbles from his hiding place. hazel eyes remain frozen on the human he’s faced with. jude never intended to lay a trap in a place where someone living might stumble upon it. despite the worry in his expression, he’s a little more concerned with the fact that, if they set it off, he’ll have to take the time to free them, and then he’ll be stuck helping with the millions of needles that will inevitably be embedded in their skin. “i really wouldn’t, if i were you.” it’s his final warning. one more step, that’s all it will take. it won’t kill them, it isn’t one of those traps, thankfully. instead, it will ensnare them and drag them into the surprisingly deep pit he has dug and lined with cacti – not the most pleasant thing to cushion a landing. the whole thing is meant to be a recreation of something he had built the last time he was in arizona, but it has turned out far more amateur than he had hoped. jude was out of practice. thus, why he had been sitting, waiting to see if it might actually work on an unsuspecting zombie.
Arya was honestly just strolling about with any clear goal in mind. Hell, if the people in Camp Avalon thought they were going to restrict or control when she left the camp, then they surely didn't know her well. Then again, it was pretty obvious that they didn't know her well... they had welcomed her in, after all. Hearing a shout from somewhere nearby, her hand immediately darted towards her weapon, tugging the machete out of its holster and glancing into the direction of the call. Narrowing her eyes at the male that had addressed her, she remained still, brows now furrowing in confusion. "You wouldn't what if you were me?" She asked dryly. The redhead had been so lost in thought that she had not been paying any attention at all to her surroundings.
mina had barely said two words to the guys on patrol, mumbling something about leaving and being back soon, before she walked right on out of the main entrance. if anything, they should be lucky that she even told them she was off. the past few weeks, she had a bad habit of just leaving without anyone even noticing. maybe that was for the best. chryse might be her home but the past few weeks, it felt more like a prison. she strolled out of that camp, making her way into the hot desert. maybe this time she just won’t return, no, no. no matter how many times she says that, she always does. her father might be gone but there were others she had to stay behind for. maybe their time will come up soon, does she really want to stay behind and watch that happen? her mind was far from hunting. hell, mina wasn’t even sure where exactly she was heading but at the sight of some strange cabin, why wouldn’t she go inside? it’s not like she had anything to lose. perhaps she should have knocked on the door to get the zombies out but where’s the fun in that? no, no, her plain is to taunt them. thank goodness the door was unlocked as she turned the knob and went right on in. her bow came out and an arrow was in it’s place, ready to strike the second one of those ugly son of a bitch comes her way. her voice rings out into the room, hoping to bring out anything that may be lurking. “ come out, come out where ever you are. ”
Machete steadily in her hand, Arya was walking along through the desert as her eyes spotted a cabin a bit ahead of her. Ever since she had arrived at camp Avalon she had been greeted with questioning, sceptical looks. Something that she could understand very well... She was a stranger in their walls. Honestly, it relaxed her the slightest bit that they were being cautious around her. That was a bit of proof that they didn't just allow whoever fell into their grasp first to become a part of their group. It showed her that maybe she was a bit sheltered there, though she was far from safe anywhere on this earth in the state it is in. Either way, she didn't plan on staying there longer than necessary and right then it was only necessary for her to be able to regain her strength and assess the area surrounding the camp. Maybe that would help her find somewhere she could settle down on her own for a while. She definitely didn't want to risk being around so many people for too long. Tightening her grasp on the machete, the redhead cautiously pushed the door to the cabin open, remaining silent as she scanned each room that she passed for dangers.
hello everyone!! you guys have no idea how pumped i am for this group... i will be around for plotting and interactions for the rest of the evening and would love to get some connections for arya worked out... note that she is just joining the camp once the group opens so if anything it would be awesome to discuss pre-camp connections or fitting future plots. here are some infos on her, if you’re interested you should hmu!!
look who’s still alive — it’s arya chamberlain you know, that twenty two year old from boston, ma, through they are helping out camp avalon by working as a hunter. heard people call them accepting and attentive, but really they are reckless and pessimistic.
growing up as the middle of three children, her family moved around a lot when she was younger, due to the outbreak... never having witnessed anything else, arya is very accustomed to surviving and avoiding the zombies and she has always been that way
by the age of fourteen she lost her parents and her younger brother to the sudden attack of a herd of zombies... luckily her older brother stopped her from doing anything stupid and both of them taught their grief together
when she was sixteen she was left on her own, having lost her eldest brother as well.. he had sacrificed herself in order for her to be able to flee from yet another larger group
she then travelled on her own, battered down but well aware that her parents had raised her to be a survivor and make the best of a situation that was as gruesome as the one she was in
she then met elena (our emeraude toubia fc) and the two of them became a couple, travelling together and occasionally joining larger groups.. however the two of them often ended up on their own again
two years ago they were separated due to yet another larger group of zombies getting in the way of arya's happiness... the redhead did what she had been taught and ran from them
saving herself into a nearby, empty building, she had enough time to punish herself with self-hatred, fully convinced that Elena was dead and that it was her fault
fighting off a couple of the zombies a day, the girl survived in the building for about three months, off of her own food and a few things she found within it
around that time another group of people came along and managed to fight the zombies before the house off in order to enter into the building, only to find her there
Tagging along with them for a few days, two out if the three people she was travelling with we're killed as well
arya decided that it was her fault yet again and she ditched the final surviving member, spending the last year and nine months travelling on her own and almost dying multiple times
she has issues trusting now, mainly trusting herself (woops)
hence why she is very pessimistic and dismissive towards most people
but if you get to know her you would be able to see that she is kind by heart and just cares a lot about others
she doesn't plan on sticking around the camp for long (but that might change woops)
connection ideas
× the final survivor of the people who saved her a while back - maybe involving a lot of angst because they could easily hate her for ditching them
× people that she encountered along the way and successfully dismissed
× people that she robbed throughout the past one and a half years - a girl does what she has to do to survive
× maybe people who saved her/she saved throughout that timespan as well
