The next time Gwyn saw Azriel he was in his normal fighting leathers, every buckle and strap neatly secured, covered completely from the neck down. His dark hair had been parted and combed back and his seven cobalt siphons gleamed in the sunlight as he spoke quietly with one of Helion’s generals. Though Gwyn had seen him in his scaled Illyrian light armor countless times, things felt different after watching him strut past the Day Court nobles wearing practically nothing nights earlier. The images of Azriel’s war-honed body in motion resided indelibly in her memory, his smooth bronzed skin gleaming in the soft fae light, his dark hair falling over his brow, the cocksure expression in his kohl-lined eyes as if he was completely unbothered by the many pairs of hungry eyes that leered at him. 

Warmth fluttered low in Gwyn’s gut ...

Azriel received a notification from Silver_Majesty1 a few nights later - a new Story from Gwyn which was unlike any of her usual aesthetic daily-life posts. It was simply a picture of her face … covered by a white ski mask with cutouts exposing only her eyes and her mouth. 

Her eyes were half-closed and framed by the dark fringe of her lashes, but the vivid teal of her irises still stood out starkly against the mask. As did the shiny pink of her plush lips, which weren’t smiling, but instead open and parted just so.

Typed neatly at the bottom of the pic was simply, “Missing him.” 

Gwyn didn’t post anything else, didn’t explain further, but she didn’t need to. 

That picture was meant for him.

Azriel never had trouble attracting attention in real life, but the online reception to The_Real_Shadowsinger was on another level. In a matter of a few short weeks, his follower count had exploded. 

He was having more fun than he originally thought he would've, thinking of creative ways to photo or film himself. And Azriel had to admit that part of his ego enjoyed all the attention he received from the nameless throngs who liked his posts, left him thirsty comments … and sometimes sent a few fairly inappropriate DMs.

But not a single one of the posts or Reels he made were for them. What really spurred Azriel on were his near-daily messages with Silver_Majesty1. 

It was no longer just disjointed, one-off responses back and forth over each other’s posts or Stories. Their DM chain had become one long conversation that started after his morning alarm and ended when one of them would drift to sleep, unbothered by the gaps of time in between when they were each off living their lives. 

They were punctuated with comments and responses to each other’s posts that were just another excuse to flirt - little winky or kissy emojis or shared quips that were fast becoming inside jokes.
