the first important thing about Barry Bluejeans is that he's full of love, both romantic and platonic. the second important thing about Barry Bluejeans is that he's trapped in a self-imposed time loop of excruciating death after excruciating death and even more excruciating memory loss, which he consciously justifies to himself as the only way to search for the missing love of his life whose help he cannot save this world without, yet his motivations for self-imposing this fate cannot be examined without also examining the unshakeable guilt that he harbors over nearly destroying this world in the first place, and the way he feels he must pay penance by refusing the chance to participate in this world as a citizen. then of course the third important thing about Barry Bluejeans is that he always wears blue jeans, and that's also his last name. which makes him pretty silly.

Barry and Lup are so funny. they just said "we're not gonna get corrupted by the power, rip to all other liches but we're different" and then they were correct and they were vindicated and then they lived happily ever after. they and the IPRE's story as a whole has so many themes about scientists' hubris and desperation for power and corrupting thralls that prey off good intentions, but just, like. not the lich thing though. transgender necromancers of all time. they really are built different

lups the fucking funniest character bc shes a sort of moral core to the starblaster crew, a huge part of the drive they have to save the worlds they come across and defeat the hunger, incredibly compassionate and emotionally intelligent, and also just fucking LOVES blowing shit up. cannot get enough of it. will see an opportunity to commit nonlethal arson and say "is anyone gonna fuck that up" and not wait for an answer. genuine honest to god pyromaniac. sees a machine gun and her immediate reaction is to start shooting it in the air. her favorite gift shes ever gotten is the opportunity to run around an abandoned building blowing things up with fire magic. its not even really treated as a character flaw its just a fun hobby she has
