Michael Chapman (1935 - 2020) was known as Chappy to his friends and co-workers on set. Michael began as a camera operator working on Cassavetes' HUSBANDS, Pakula's KLUTE, Coppola's THE GODFATHER, and Spielberg's JAWS. Chappy would later make a name for himself as a renowned cinematographer mentored by Gordon Willis and becoming an essential component to filmmakers like Hal Ashby, Martin Scorsese, Paul Schrader, Robert Towne, and Philip Kaufman. Chapman would capture Jack Nicholson in THE LAST DETAIL, the seedy streets in TAXI DRIVER, the abuse of Jake LaMotta in RAGING BULL, the hunt for the one-armed man in THE FUGITIVE, Vigo The Carpathian in GHOSTBUSTERS II, the final performance of The Band in THE LAST WALTZ, and even Michael Jackson's 18-minute music video for BAD. #RestInPictures #RIP #MichaelChapman https://www.instagram.com/p/CFc8oRxF_Lm/?igshid=10tpcae11itx7
