This really wasn’t her thing.. Festivals. But the mixing and the mingling with crowds like this was all about keeping up appearances and that was definitely something Elizabeth had never shied away from, especially when there were cameras involved. Posing for one in particular in front of a booth, Elizabeth glanced over at the flashy - note tacky - sign before registering the familiar face beneath it. Kenina. Her sister spoke and Elizabeth scoffed. “Oh, but it doesn’t surprise me at all, sister.”

she was trying to start over, for what seemed like the hundredth time.  but it was hard when everywhere she went she was reminded of who she used to be.  “aye, i suppose i’ve never truly been drawn to the idea of hiding away in some dusty old cave.”  her words hinting that she wasn’t one to hide who she truly was, the bad and the good.  however, she didn’t mind omitting some of her past when the situation suited it.  “though i never thought i’d see you here, mingling with those that are so clearly not of your world.”

Adam shrugs a shoulder, shaking his head, “My job often involves being told what to do and where to go. I am usually none to bothered,” he says as he inhales deeply and shrugs a shoulder. He raises both brows and hums, “Government work is surely not for most people, a fact I rather appreciate,” he says as he inhales deeply. At her question, he raises both brows, “I’d probably just be at home, which is immeasurably better than being anywhere else,” he says, furrowing his brows, “Do you have some cause to be especially worried about your safety tonight?”

she enjoyed his honesty.  people who hid their true thoughts were boring and frankly, she viewed as children.  “i’m not much of a stay at home person.  i do like to be in my shop though.  just opened up another location in california,” she said with a cheeky smile.  nina didn’t brag...OFTEN.  but she was so happy to be in a good position financially that she was able to open a second location.  it was something to get her mind OFF of her worries.  

her smile faltered when he mentioned 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒂𝒇𝒆𝒕𝒚.  “to be frank, i don’t really know if i feel worried.  i feel more...more along the lines of whatever happens will happen.  i’ve made my peace with a lot of things since the, well, you know,” she said dancing around the word.  “why, should i be worried?” she asked, eyebrows showing a slight level of concern.

Adam was, admittedly, annoyed that he had to be here. It was all a bit overwhelming, and he knew he couldn’t get away. Even with a quieting charm, he knew he was on his way to walking around in a daze. Gratefully, though, someone had come to take his post for the time being, allowing him to move a bit more freely until he was re-assigned. He looked over her booth, his head cocked slightly as he reached into his black robes for his gold, “I’ll take some dittany,” he says, pulling out the amount listed for it. At her statement, he furrows his brows, “I suppose you’re not alone in that sensation. I can’t say I agree.”

She took a moment to take in his body language. “I suppose you were told to attend rather than coming of your own volition?” she said after a moment.  “I really wish they wouldn’t make you attend if you don’t want to.  I’d probably put up a fit if someone told me what to do,” she said with a grin.  “Which is probably why I’d never make it working for the government.” Not to mention her dark past. She got the indicated amount and caringly put it in an elegantly decorated bag.  “So, if you weren't forced to attend, what would you be doing?” She gestured toward a table that had tea and a small assortment of pastries.  “Would you care to join me for a while?  I have some lovely tea, and some handmade goodies.”

Kenina had been more sociable since the gala, in an attempt to dig herself out of her negative feelings ( and TRY to be a good witch for once in her life ).  She had a little booth set up for anyone who wanted ( or needed ) herbs for spells.  She was feeling rather generous today, and had a brightly colored sign that had “PRICE LISTED OR BEST OFFER”.  So far, she had traded ingredients for various art souvenirs or ones created by the customers themselves.  “I know that I don’t seem like the type, but I really rather enjoy the Festival of Muses,” she said gently touching a decoration.

Headcanon

Nina has never really loved her family; it was more of a feeling of obligation and loyalty.  The only person she truly trusts and loves is her sister.  She fell in line with the first group of people that showed her love    (  or what she thought was love )   and it turned out to be a group that only wanted to use her.  She fled to America to escape her past and her family.  She kept to herself, not really disclosing about her past, and slowly began to relax.  She started to feel as if she had a chance at being someone   GOOD.  She tried to fight at the Gala, to help protect, but she wasn’t strong enough.  She had only ever done dark magic; only ever caused harm.  In the aftermath of the event, she has begun to wonder if she was the cause for this new threat.  If somehow the darkness finally caught up with her.

The Hidden Heart     (  wanted connection  ) shortly after nina graduated hogwarts she fell in love.  she was reckless and ended up getting pregnant.  at first she thought that she and her boyfriend would get married and she’d finally escape her family and their poison.  that she’d have something pure, a fresh new beginning.  however,  the boy left her, and she was alone.  wanting the child to have a chance at a happy home, she ended up giving the child up for adoption.  she made sure that the child was adopted by a loving family.  she obliviated the child’s father, and anyone who knew of her pregnancy.  the only thing she left behind was a letter to the child and an engraved necklace with the words, ‘born of fire’.

He looked at Kenina, wearing an apologetic expression. “I’m sorry I haven’t been able to make it to the shop yet. I really do want to catch up, I’ve just been so busy. I’m glad I ran into you here. ”

“How is he doing?” She asked fiddling with a napkin before licking her own ice cream. She shook her head and gave him a warm smile. “No, no, don’t be daft dearie. It’s alright. I know we’ve all been trying to get back to normal.” Even though she started to open up, she was still having trouble. Feeling vulnerable was common to her, however, knowing that she was feeling that way was new. In the past, she’d do something to mask that feeling, and now she couldn’t.

          The redhead sat towards the back of taqueria mucho, watching people go up an perform. Usually, Kenina commanded the room’s attention. Today, however, she wanted to sit back and watch. She was dressed in an elegant lace black dress that clung to her body in all the right ways. She had her makeup expertly done, and not a hair was out of place. However, while it looked like Kenina it was obvious to those that knew her that something was wrong.

Zeke moves to sit down beside the redhaired woman, leaning back in his chair before he turns to look at her, “Are you gonna sing?” he asks curiously. He was a pretty serviceable singer, or perhaps good. It was tough for him to really know; his church always gave him solos and seemed thoroughly impressed by his voice, but Zeke was always suspicious they were just being kind.

“I don’t know yet,” she said. She hadn’t really thought about competing, which was out of character for the competitive Witch. “The competition is very good,” she said. Another non-Kenina thing to say. “What about you?” she asked. “Are you going to sing today?”
