“It’s been twenty minutes, Kai.”
Irelia’s response is nearly drowned out by the sound of a truck’s engine that had stopped at the light next to them, which flashes a white pedestrian sign that lets them cross to the other side. She turns around, beckoning Kai’Sa forward with her fingers, before promptly crossing the street as one of many intertwined in the hectic world of Seoul foot traffic.
“You know, the walk to school from my apartment was farther than this.” Irelia motions to the activity all around them, towards a couple of food vendors just off where the busy avenue of Gwangjang Market began. “And it didn’t have anything this lively. Just construction work, usually.”
She slows down to a less hurried pace so that Kai’Sa can catch up, linking her arm in hers. “Still, I’m sorry to make you walk so far. But it’s why lunch is on me, isn’t it?”
It’s not very often that Kai’sa gets to enjoy a meal in peace . Usually , she’d be the one ordering it or cooking it , but today is different . On one of their rare free days , the members of K/DA usually spends some time by themselves or in pairs ; they see enough of each other on a daily basis anyways .
Irelia makes a convincing argument , but Kai’sa chooses to whine a little more — She rarely gets to do the complaining , it’s usually ‘Kali or Eve who will find the smallest things to grumble about . ❛ But jie , you walk too fast ... The food better be fantastic or I’ll be annoyed . ❜
She walks a bit faster to catch up to the elder as they cross the road , pouting only slightly once they reach the other side . Kai’sa has always been in and out of various schools , but all of them were located pretty close to her house for the sake of accessibility .
Recognition crosses her face as she sees the familiar markets . ❛ I remember this place! We came here to eat after doing one of our promotional events . ❜ Her eyes widen as they pass a vendor selling tteok - bokki , the appetizing smell making her stomach complain almost as loudly as she’s grumbling . But now that their arms are linked , Irelia won’t walk too quickly.
❛ You keep saying that , but there’s no way I can let you pay for it! Seriously , I’ve got more than enough on me . ❜ Whether out of internalized Asian courtesy or blunt honesty , the dancer shakes her head as she insists to pay for her own food .
