“...The more I’ve been reading, lately, the more I’ve been realizing how difficult it is to be a writer in this day and age. Yes, there’s journalism and screenwriting and novels and the whole shebang, but I’d say that sometimes we’re so bombarded by excess that it’s hard to remember what it’s like to just write.
...So, yes, as you were wondering--I do think that the internet has affected our ability to experience emotion in its entirety. I hate to be cynical, but it’s simply the reality of it.”
Yeah, you’re so right. That’s really wise of you. But I promise I matter. All I’m saying is that I promise that, once you get to know me, I’ll be more than an a simple passing. I have a tendency to leave an effect on people. You’ve already done that to me, so it seems only fair that I return the favour.
Wise--Kichi, I'm quite obviously older than you, but still far too young to be wise. Perceptive, maybe. We'll see.
...I've left an effect on you?
Disappointments were not meant to destroy you. They were meant to strengthen you and give you fortitude to accomplish your destiny.
Joel Osteen (via deeplifequotes)
Really? I think we’re plenty acquainted. You know my name, and I know yours. What else is there?
I don't know about you, yourself--but I'm far more than a simple name. A name's just a combination of letters; I'm a whole person and better than just a name. If it worked like that, I'd be acquaintances with everyone I met even in simple passing--as long as we knew each others names. And because those people are basically irrelevant to me, I don't really think that that's something I'd enjoy. I'd rather be acquainted with people who actually matter.
You might be surprised. I’m more intellectual than you’d think. I’m Kichi, but my friends call me Kiki. You can call me whatever you like.
I'll believe it when I see it, Kichi. We're not acquainted enough for me to call you anything but your given name. I'm Reuben, I'd say it's nice to meet you but I haven't decided yet.
Because, um— that is a good question, actually. You obviously want something more intellectually simulating, don’t you?
Well, yes--but I doubt you could offer me something intellectually stimulating, correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I don't actually know you--so it's safe to assume that I have no idea who the girls at your school are, nor do I want to have one. And because of that, what you're saying isn't relevant to me? At all.
I think the girls at this school only talk to me to get my step-brother’s number, because they all think I’m a bitch. And then when they talk to him, they all think he’s a bitch, too, and delete his number. Like? Okay, babe, whatever.
...Excuse me, but why are you telling me this?
Each of us has his own way of emerging from the underworld, mine is by writing. That’s why the only way I can keep going, if at all, is by writing, not through rest and sleep. I am far more likely to achieve peace of mind through writing than the capacity to write through peace.
Franz Kafka, Letters to Felice (via maxkirin)
People were born to be nomadic. Being stationary is how we fall into closed boxes of lives.
Being stationary is also how I received a Stanford education, sis.
Wait, I recognise that face. Brother…I didn’t know you’d be here. I’ve just returned from Budapest.
Well, I could say the same for you—I on the other hand live here. Budapest? I can’t say I’m surprised.
This playlist someone made is so inspiring. It just makes me want to pack my bags and go visit somewhere beautiful. Maybe Venice, I’ve always wanted to go to Venice.
…Miriam?
