His head tilted to the side as he watched her, his sleepy mind making his concentration and focus nearly nonexistent. Slowly, he reached out and poked her reddened cheeks with his index finger. It was only then that what she was saying penetrated through the haze of sleep and drink that had fallen over his mind. “It looks like he missed to me,” he pointed out just before a yawn forced its way out. He blinked down at her as she leaned up against him in her drunken mirth. “’Sides, if you’re dead, then who would I hang out with and laugh when they get shitfaced?” he asked, laying his head back down on the table and closing his eyes. He’d wake up, he knew that. But without something truly exciting or an adrenaline rush, it would take a bit to get him to move. Not that learning the deep, dark secrets of one of his closet friends wasn’t exciting, just that he’d rather be more awake. There was a great possibility he wouldn’t even remember this conversation. An ever greater one that she wouldn’t either.
Both looked near on the brink of exhaustion, though Ala’s loosened tongue kept on moving, even as Loptr commented on her father’s failure. Now, she was rambling in her mother tongue, talking about the fortune that lay beneath the mountains of the east. The mountains that she’d hiked over to come here. As she talked, she rested her head on her hand, eyes half-closed as she talked what sounded like nonsense to everyone around, as red cheeks grew more flushed as she downed more and more ale. Anyone else would be under a table, after the amount that she’d drunk. “I think I need to use the sleep.” She commented at last in a language that could be understood.

Ruby was dressed for court life – blue and silver dripped from her bodice and skirts, rich fabrics to match the rich color of her hair, and her eyes behind her bejeweled mask. She met the visitor in the official parlor, as instructed, but Luken made it clear he would not receive her personally today. He was far too busy, and far too arrogant, to do unsolicited business with someone with no connections to a royal family insofar as he knew – and he knew quite a lot. So Ruby greeted the visitor in his public parlor, watching for a moment as she played with the fire. A magician, of sorts, or perhaps an engineer with some sort of flame-retardant chemical to boast about. All the same, Ruby did not smile when doing business with someone who had yet to impress her master, and so she stood still and calm. “The Lord of this land, Madam is busy, I’m afraid. Whatever you wish to tell him, madam, you may first tell me.”
Oh, no one knew her past, Ydra had made sure of that. Ties to distant leaders, the child of two very important clans. No, she couldn’t afford to bequeath that information to anyone. “Very well,” Ydra said, letting her eyes rest lightly on the other’s masked face, “I suppose, then, that you know my name is Ydra Alaror Revalir-Haerwa Lyrir Alydris. My information is as of regards to distant kinsmen who have come to these lands.” She’d seen them prowling about, so obviously Dalydri it had taken no time to pick them out in a crowd. Hence, her lack of use of an alias, to keep them on her scent here. Perhaps she could set a trap. Violet eyes looked towards the shadows of the room, drifting calmly between each one. “In our tongue, we call them Dalydri, shadows. But they are more assassins, than anything. I fear they might be here for your lord, in hopes of creating some sort of power vacuum. Their leader does enjoy that sort of thing.” There was an honesty in her face, despite the lie of the target she strung into the words, a skilled liar, when it came to that.

“I’m so very glad that they decided to have an outdoor wedding in the middle of summer when it’s a million degrees.”
“I cried during their vows; they were so beautiful.”
“One day I hope I can find someone who looks at me like they look at each other.”
“Boy, the weather sure knows how to rain on their parade. Literally.”
“Sure the reception was a disaster, but these are going to be memories they’ll never forget.”
“You can tell who loves you from who shows up to sit through your long, extremely boring ceremony.”
“I bet you that they’ve received no less than three slow cookers and five blenders in these wedding gifts.”
“Would you like to dance with me?”
“Where’s the champagne?”
“The person who came with me is drunk in the corner so I’m pretty much alone now.”
“Our memories are fleeting but wedding photos are forever.”
“A thunderstorm on the wedding day just means that Thor approves of the union.”
“Did you seriously sneak whisky into the wedding?”
“The cake was beautiful.”
“The last wedding I went to I caught the bouquet, so it’s really ironic that I’m attending someone else’s wedding alone now.”
“I saw a bee fly into the bride’s bouquet.”
“Don’t tell anyone but I don’t know who either of these people are.”
“So what if they’re my ex? I’m happy they found someone they love, even if it wasn’t me.”

Her hands drifted in and out of the flames, the woman not quite caring who saw her behave so strangely, though her skin did not burn. Her curls fell loosely about her head, wild as ever, but she appeared to put some effort into her looks, wearing a crimson dress of the finest quality, though it was less shapely compared to the fashion of court--more towards the fashion of her own folk, with the sheer shawl draped around her head as well. Ydra looked up from the candle’s flames, pulling her hands away and towards her sides. “I’m sorry, I was seeking Mister Luken? I have something that might be in his interest to know.” Despite being taken aback by the other, she had recovered quickly, taking a more formal stance and letting a courtly indifference slip into her face. But there was a shift in the room around her--the air warmer, drier--that made her stand out more than the fashion already did.

❝You’ve got blood on your–❞
“Everywhere.” She replied, though none of it was hers--to her knowledge. Ydra’s blood did not run red, nor did it run black like her people’s. It ran clear, like water, letting light shine through the cracks in her skin. And no one had yet to comment on light coming from her, so the blood was not hers. Still, it covered most of her clothes, splattered by people who’d come too close in that fight. The stiffness of her cheek and nose as she talked made it apparent there was some there too, and the metallic tang of blood still filled her nostrils with every breath, while the taste still choked her tongue. Ydra was covered with the stuff.

“‘S no need to yell,” he grumbled, lifting his head from where it had been resting against his arms on that table. He wasn’t nearly as drunk as she was, but when he got bored, he tended to get tired, even more so when he hadn’t actually slept for a few days. He stared at her blearily as he blinked, trying to rouse himself awake again. It wouldn’t be good to fall completely asleep in a tavern anyway. Besides, why should he miss the show with how drunk she was. “Now why would you abandon such a good name as … Ydra Alarary Revaling … whatever you just said, and go by Ally Bara?” he asked blandly, butchering her name on purpose, just before he let out a wide yawn. He couldn’t say he was surprised or bothered that she’d been using an alias, even with him. It was good to know, either way. Of course, that wouldn’t stop him from using any and all variations of ‘Alaron’. He now had even more ammo for nicknames, now, he supposed.
Three more drinks were down her gullet before he’d managed to even rouse herself. Something about feeling empty, without rage or joy to light the fire in her soul, had left plenty of room for alcohol. Her cheeks were bright red by that point, to the point the flush looked painted on--and perhaps it was. No one would know. “Spies.” Ydra whispered, though by thet point it was the volume of plain speech. She’d always been terrible at holding her tongue while drunk. “My daddy wants to kill me.” In that moment, Ydra--or Alaror, she was forgetting which one she was here--had probably used a word best fit for a younger person, but it was not her first tongue. Nor her second. Nor her third. “Ye’ almost got it.” She laughed, hiccuping as she stopped for a moment, looking startled at the noise, and then she was in another fit of laughs that had her clutching Loptr’s arm in support.

“I am better with bow than with a blade.” She explained, unable to hide the smirk. Archery was one of the harder things to master, after all. And yet she was better with fists than she was at both of those. Fighting had always come naturally to the tall woman. “I only need one fight, for the rare one to ever come so close for me to need a blade.”
