Jem: what’s wrong son
Kit: *crying while staring at a copy of a Sherlock Holmes novel* do you ever see a piece of literature that reminds you of someone you love?
Jem, tearing up while staring at Will’s copy of Tale of Two Cities: all the time.
Jem: And what do we do when we’re depressed?
Kit: Start working out, eating regularly, taking care of ourselves and building healthy relationships with our family and friends…
Jem: Yes!
Kit: …on the Sims!
Jem: No!
"You have clearly proved that Ignorance, Idleness, and Vice are the proper Ingredients for qualifying a Legislator"
- Gulliver's Travels, pg 120
Jonathan Swift
Swift was born in 1667 and was an extremely influential author. He was also Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, so he must have been pretty straight-laced, right?
Absolutely not. Here are some weird, fun facts about him:
- First off, he was the author of a 1722 essay “The Benefit of Farting Explain’d” and penned a treatise on poop under the name “Dr. Shit.”
- He casually predicted the fact that Mars has two moons, as well as using Kepler’s Theorem to calculate their orbits.
- He was the first person to use the word “cowboy.”
- Whenever he was talking about “coffee” in one of his letters, he was actually talking about sex.
- In fact, he was so obsessed with sex that he wrote in a letter that he couldn’t properly write a book without it.
- His nurse kidnapped him when he was born, and his family was just like “yeah ok we don’t care.”
All that’s just the beginning. He wrote a book about eating babies, for crying out loud. I highly recommend reading Gulliver’s Travels, it’s amazing so far (I just finished Voyage to Brobdingnag).
My goals:
1. Owning all books I want to read 2. Reading them before I die
3. Owning a house with enough rooms for the personal library
4. One of those hidden rooms behind a giant bookshelf to house a hammock and even more books
5. Own a library in case of a book shortage
6. An endless supply of snacks to eat while reading the books
7. A fireplace to curl up in front of while reading said books and eating said snacks

So the Weasleys are the rare pureblood family that actually keeps some sort of track of their squibs, right?
Like, 11-year-old Ron knows he has a cousin who’s an accountant, even though he’s aware that it’s vaguely shameful.
So please consider: one of the businesses Fred and George ran out of their back room, in the early days after the Ministry fell, was creating fake family trees for Muggle-Borns.
Weasleys are already known to have enormous families, what’s one or two extra a generation or two back?
(Aunt Muriel is awful, but in the face of Muggleborn Registration, absolutely she’ll admit to having a couple of squib children she doesn’t mention in polite company, because who would, but she’s delighted to learn that magic resurfaced in their grandchildren, why are the men from the Ministry frowning when they deliver such wonderful news, and they can d**n well keep their boots off the carpet. A couple of Muggleborns the Twins kept out of trouble that way sent Aunt Muriel half-joking mothers’ day cards until the day she died.)
Go read the picture of Dorian Gray. It's amazing and so dramatic
just a reminder that basil hallward deserved better
SORRY FOR THE SPAM YALL I JUST LOVE THIS BOOK
a passage from The Picture of Dorian Gray, before & after censorship by Wilde’s editors
from The Picture of Dorian Gray: An Annotated, Uncensored Edition.
Honestly it amazes me that the picture of Dorian Gray was so much more homoerotic than it is in it's present version
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
oscar wilde, writing “the picture of dorian gray”: anyway i wanna thank god & the gays
oscar wilde’s editors, who have had to delete so many gay lines their gay-line-deleting pens have run out of ink: oscar– oscar.. pl-please calm down-
oscar wilde: i WANNA THANK,,,,,, GOD &,,,,, the GAYS
The Picture of Dorian Gay by Oscar Wilde
Reading Dorian Gray rn I agree with this wholeheartedly
Percy: I wanna tell Annabeth how I feel.
Grover: go for it. Practice on me
Percy: *clears throat* Hey Annabeth…
Percy: *screams*
Grover: *wincing* good job Percy.
Tom Ellis would be the perfect actor to play Rhysand
He led me the few steps onto the dais—to the throne. He sat, smiling faintly at his monstrous court. He owned every inch of the throne. These people. And with a tug on my waist, he perched me on his lap.
