Prompt Details
Day 1 (January 10): Meet our MCs (and OCs)
HSS has given us three memorable MCs over the years! The monumental HSS Prime MC, the wildcard OG HSS Choices MC, and the adorkable HSS:CA MC. This day is for any works centric around any HSS MCs you have. Feel free to even introduce us to your HSS MCs with a profile or profiles!
If you also have any OCs or fancharacters that aren’t meant to be versions of the MC characters, including any students you enroll in Prime, feel free to post about those too!
Day 2 (January 11): Fresh Starts and Growth
“That’s the great thing about a fresh start. You can be anybody you want to be”, said by Principal Hughs in OG HSS Book 1 Chapter 1.
As such, many of the characters we know get to have a fresh start at Berry High, and grow into better, stronger people from it. What might the fresh start mean for any particular character(s)? Do they go through any personal growth? This is the prompt to explore that!
Day 3 (January 12): Favorite Characters
The HSS iterations have given us a multitude of vibrant and compelling characters. From the shy wallflowers to the ever-confident cheerleaders, from the supportive jocks to the clever nerds, from the party-loving preps to the creative musicians, from the logistical gamers to the expressive theatre club. The uniqueness is captured in the faculty of Berry High, as well as even the rival Hearst kids. Let us hear about your favorites from these characters and why they are compelling to you!
Day 4 (January 13): Friendship, Family, and Berry High Unity
A core theme of HSS has always been how students of different cliques/social groups can come together. Since the foundation of Berry High, a lot of strong friendships have been formed among its students, including our main characters as well as outside their friend group.
From there, the students are able to get stuff done like a team and and uplift each other like a family. And along with that, we get to see a lot of familial relationships outside of school as well. This day is to highlight and celebrate all these relationships which were compelling to you, as well as any you want to see more of!
Day 5 (January 14): Favorite Ships/Pairings
HSS gives our characters all kinds of opportunites for relationships. Tell us about your favorite pairs and ships in HSS! Pairs between a MC and another character, pairs between two canon characters, pairs between OCs, pairs between canon and OC or a MC and an OC, maybe even pairs between two MCs. Whether they can be paired in game or not, whether they're monogamous, polyamourous, strictly romantic, queerplatonic, long-lasting, short fling... no matter what, show us those ships!
Day 6 (January 15): Pride, Welcoming, Acceptance
“This school began as a bunch of empty plots of land and a promise to be open to everyone. A promise that ensured no matter who you were or what you liked, you'd always be included and together we can accomplish anything”, said by the HSS Prime MC in HSS Prime Friendsgiving and as shown on the statue of Ollie the Tiger.
From the very beginning of HSS Prime, Berry High was built with this promise. This is the prompt to celebrate and explore that! This can include cultural/ethnic celebration, queer/gender pride, disability and neurodivergence pride, etc. How is this welcoming and acceptance meaningful to any particular character(s)? How does it influence their identity?
Day 7 (January 16): Antagonists
Nothing comes without difficulties. Berry High has always had its fair share of challenges from the beginning. From keeping the school open, fending off bullies, sabotages from rival schools, and corrupt principals, and more. Show us who is your favourite antagonist and spill their beans!
Day 8 (January 17): Favorite Scenes/Moments
From the beginning of the Prime game in 2013 to the end of Class Act in 2020, HSS has given us nearly 7 years of stories What are those moments in any of the games that really stuck with you? Made you laugh, made you cry, had you on the edge of your seat, or were just overall really powerful or memorable? Tell us about them here!
Day 9 (January 18): Free Day/Wildcard Prompt
This one goes without saying. Are there any HSS themes we didn’t cover? Anything more you love about HSS? This is the day for that! Go wild! Be creative!

dearest pixelberry studios there was once a time you were the best and i’ve made lifelong friendships because of you & the games you’ve made brought me years of joy and happiness and creative inspiration. that being said: fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you
I mean think about it, the other big name used to be Lovestruck and they ended their app service 2 years ago. It doesn't surprise me that another big name is starting to have trouble.
"let people enjoy things" is about like. danganronpa or hannibal or something else like that. not the antisemetic wizard game that's going to be funding anti-trans campaigns in the uk.
from personal expirence, i am begging yall to completely avoid betterhelp. they specifically push christian therapists onto patients who ask for non-christian help. they did it to me and theyve done it to others. the therapists will consistently pressure you into using a camera or doing audio calls, even if you request against it. the therapists are actively homophobic and transphobic and will spread that rhetoric during your sessions.
do not use betterhelp. do not even give them the time of day.
I have colleagues who have found public-facing profiles FOR THEMSELVES that are being run by Better Help despite being completely unaffiliated with the company. In at least one case, the profile was riddled with inaccuracies and bad info and the way my colleague FOUND OUT IT EXISTED was by being issued an initial warning by their fucking licensing board about it. You are reading that correctly, she was sanctioned by her licensing board for a public facing profofessional profile page she hadNO PART IN CREATING AND DID NOT KNOW EXISTED because A COMPANY SHE DID NOT WORK FOR decided to make shit up for it.
Better Help is incredibly unethical and should not be allowed to continue existing given its current business practices.
Class Act, as it is, would have been better off as a separate franchise rather than a HSS spinoff.
Think about it. You could swap out everything from the OG trilogy- from the characters, all the way down to the setting of Berry High/Cedar Cove itself- and lose absolutely nothing important about Class Act. At the very most, the bit about Skye dealing with having Brian as a brother would have less impact on us as readers, but that's about it.
What's always been my biggest problem with Class Act is how underutilized the OG characters are, even when they are directly involved in theatre:
Sydney is the costume designer but she barely does anything in the story besides, well, being the costume designer.
OG MC auditions for a role in theatre, but right away they get their leg broken from Danielle's sabotage, and they don't do anything of value to the main story besides basically being a plot device.
Aiden can create the soundtrack for the musical if you spend diamonds, and even if you do he doesn't really do much either.
Maria is in charge of running the elections in book 2 but doesn't do anything else besides that.
And then you have book 3, which literally brings in the OG cast to join the CA gang in the musical- and in a plot where they're all going on a trip to London to perform it in a high school Broadway competition, nonetheless. Seriously that is the most exciting plot idea in HSS history. And yet they still manage to have the OG characters do absolutely nothing of importance. It even shows when Maria says they joined because they thought it would be fun to join OG MC and Aiden on the London trip- because that's exactly what they do, they just tag along and do nothing important in the story. They may as well just be cardboard theatre props.
OG MC invites CA MC to hang out with them and their friends a few times, and although the scenes are cute, the OG characters really only serve as CA MC's rebound friends. The scenes themselves feel more like OG trilogy nostalgia grabs- the supposed friendship between CA MC and the OG characters feels more obligatory, compared to OG MC's friendship with the HSS Prime characters which felt more natural and worked into the story.
Throughout the OG trilogy, we got to get to know all these characters, we got to see them grow and develop. Only for CA to reduce them to one-dimensional theatre props. Any moments that do have connection to the OG series are few and far between, and those few moments (Emma talking with Ajay about dealing with divorce, Rory shunning Morgan out of elections for her Isa support, Skye's relationship with Brian) are still incredibly minor and you lose nothing by changing them.
Now, some may argue that it's supposed to be a different MC's story and that focusing more on the OG characters would lead to them overshadowing the new characters. But here's the thing: it is possible to give the OG characters meaningful roles and characterization in this new story without making them overshadowing the new cast. Especially since it's taking place in the exact same setting as the OG trilogy.
Here's an example of a book/series that did it well: It Lives Beneath. New MC, new LIs, new side characters, same franchise. But despite that this one has the excuse of being in a setting further away from Westchester high, it still utilizes ILITW characters well.
The most notable of this is Tom Sato, a side character (Andy's best friend) from ILITW who is now a LI for the new MC. And a lot of the story not only utilizes his past experiences from the ILITW story, but it further fleshes out his character too.
Then you have other characters like the ILITW gang, and ILITW MC/Noah/Redfield, who get smaller cameos. But these cameos actually connect to past events and character arcs in ILITW and are used to further the story in ILB, all without overshadowing the new cast.
Never once in ILB did it feel like the ILITW references/cameos were just cheap nostalgia grabs. Never once did it feel like I could replace everything from ILITW that was in ILB with something completely new without losing anything important from ILB.
Class Act, even though it does have its own share of issues outside from the disconnect from OG HSS, isn't a bad trilogy. But for what it's worth, I think Class Act as it's written now would have been much stronger as a story if it was its own franchise rather than a HSS spinoff.
I agree with a lot here. The OG cast felt like they were there more for cheap cameos rather then actually furthering the plot. The only really nice interaction that was heavily wasted is Skye and Mia interacting. The setup and use of Mia a in Skye's story I really liked.
I feel like even if they wanted to push HSSCA as a HSS spin off they could have added a lot of interest having the cast go to Hearst instead of Berry. They would have gotten the chance to flush out more of the Hearst characters we meet in book 3 and see what happens after book 3's events and how it effects the student life at Hearst.
