— royal escape.
“sister!”
the youngest princess says that single word a lot louder than she usually does. her excitement vibrates from her body to her voice as it leaves her. her eyes have the sparkle of a thousand stars as she walks into her sister’s bedroom. rei is the third princess and for that, ahreum knows she owns her great respect. however, she doesn’t feel that in the sense of a hierarchy. in the contrary, she’s very close to her dear sister who nobody ceases to think is made out of glass. she thinks in agony, how must it be to be locked up to her own home. she wishes her parents would realize that they could be sickening rei’s soul by not letting her go out. ahreum always tried to bring her a bit of the outside to the older one, even if her freedom was limited as well. she brought drawings of distant lands that not even ahreum laid eyes on and drawings of the market of their own land. she brought her sister flowers and dry leaves she got on the street.
little things made her think about her sister and not just once had ahreum wanted her to be able to see them with her own eyes. and today, rei was going to do so. a chuckle leaves her lips - a chuckle her sister would probably recognize. it rang in a certain way that made clear that ahreum was thinking about things. things that would probably attract some lectures later. along with her chuckle, she runs toward her sister, holding her hands and making both her and rei spin in place.
“it’s the festival of the leo! sister, i believe the city must be so beautiful!” ahreum says in her nymph voice and brings rei near the window. she points to the decorations that were visible from her sister’s window and turns back to her to smile. “don’t you wish to go?” she finally offers, hands squeezing her sister’s. ahreum makes her pitiful eyes, the one she uses when she wants something deeply. those eyes still have their mischievous sparkle that makes company to her racing heart, however her goal was to make it impossible for rei to deny her offer. “come with me, sister” she now whispers for ahreum doesn’t want anyone else to hear about that - and how they learned that the castle had ears! and that those very ears were their parents’ too. “in secrecy. without guards, without our siblings - just you and me”
the loud voice rings in her ears as she can feel a smile stretch across her face. she knows exactly who this loud voice belongs to before her eyes lay on her younger sister. ahreum was one of the few people who treated her differently. but ahreum was almost in the same situation as her. her parents were afraid to let her experience the world. rei feared that her younger sibling would become like her one day. thin and bones close to being broken. but ahreum had a stronger spirit than her. even now as she turned to look at the younger female her eyes were filled with excitement.
naturally her lips were pulled up into a smile just from hearing ahreum’s laugh. she knew the girl was up to something. her mischievous younger sibling was always up to something. as the younger ran toward her with outstretched hands rei captured the others hands with hers. and there they spun; giggling as young children do.
once done having their fun ahreum brings up the festival. rei was required to go but her mother would never let her attend it alone. she would either be accompanied by a guard or maybe even seokjin; her personal servant. but ahreum had other ideas. as she heard her younger sister’s plan of escape it made rei unsure. if she had gotten caught she knew it would end in disaster for her. but, as of now. she might be able to take that risk. looking in ahreum’s pleading eyes she could feel herself being pushed that way. rei smiled as she nodded “alright ahreum, but we should hurry as to not be caught.” she whispered to the younger sibling. hoping the younger would have an escape route already planned. had she planned to leave just through the front door?
