me as a teenager: man it sucks to have no privacy or autonomy but i guess its for a good reason. when i turn 18 i will realise how young i was and understand why they did all that.

Have I ever said how much I love the way *forging* itself overlaps with a reptilian trait that dragons might have? No?

Durinig forging, when your hammer strikes the metal you can see something flakes off. That's a layer of rapidly oxidised iron on the surface being shattered by the impact. It always looked like the metal is shedding to me, and guess what I wasn't alone in that. Obviously, blacksmiths call those flakes SCALES! Hammerscale a full word, or forge scale sometimes.

So yeah, now I'm even more obsessed with this trivia. Might be thinking about my beautiful fire drakes of Nocturne for a good good while; the Salamanders shedding their scales upon the anvil of war, enduring the extreme heat and powerful hammering, to be forged into noble and mighty dragons, just like the weapons they forge.
