Beasts

My feelings go up and go down

perpetually lost and found:

Schrodinger’s cat, think about that.

On a retrograde ferris wheel

I go around and around.

The dove and the dragon pass first

then the unicorn.

These creatures are constantly running

it’s like they’ve all got Devil’s horns.

Too many of us in this little world

and no way to tame the beasts.

But everyone’s dreamlessly bored

and I just want to feel my heart keep beating.

The unicorn’s too proud of his horn,

and the dragon’s too proud of his fire.

The dove just wants to go home,

and the mermaid’s open for hire.

This place is such a ride,

I need to jump off.

I’m addicted to pride,

but I need it to stop.

Swim away mermaid,

fly away dove,

you don’t deserve my love.

You don’t deserve my love.

You’ll never deserve my love.
