Like many, I did not learn about Juneteenth in school. It was during the Black Lives Matter protests that I became aware of the significance of the date.
Moving forward, may we become a society of true equality, where no one is shackled, for the color of their skin.
We will never know every individual torment that was inflicted upon Black men, women, and children during four centuries of slavery. We cannot forget slavery was an atrocity that occurred on our soil.
May the day come where everyone is confident they are safe walking down the street, driving down any road, sitting in their backyard, going for a run, or going out for a bottle of tea.
… and may no one ever experience a knee on the back of their neck again.
We can create a world where we do have true equality.
