The Sympathid is SUCH a perfect metaphor for allowing one's empathy to indiscriminately guide actions, whether or not the world actually reciprocates, and being blinded by the perceived/desired outcome rather than the outcome that actually unfolds. Many such cases for earlier seasons Morty, but frankly I think his experience with this was the final nail in the coffin for his naivete. I can't wait to see how this development explodes in season 10 lol
