But this is like the first night in weeks! I’m totally overjoyed right now.

"Annie doesn't want any visitors today Ricky. I'm sorry, you can try coming back tomorrow."

It was the third day in a row Cody had told him those exact words. Ricky knew Annie was grieving but he was worried. They hadn't seen each other in a couple of weeks. Elijah was the one who told Ricky what had happened. "Don't be sorry. I get it. Uh - can you give this to her? I want to make sure she's eating and it is one of her favorites."

Cody took the food and smiled. "Thanks. I'll see you tomorrow."

Later that night he tried calling her. Ricky was expecting the call to go straight to voicemail. He had decided to leave a message "Hey, uh it's Ricky... I guess that is obvious. I just wanted to say I miss you and I am here for you if you need me. You'll get through this Annie. See you later hopefully."

Figuring out ways to help Annie kept him up most of the night. Ricky was only able to sleep after swiping a few beers from his dad. 

That morning Ricky dropped off two coffees with Cody, one for him and one for Annie, before going to the summer class that he needed to graduate. He wasn't expecting to get a text from Annie Thanks. I'll see you when I can. Ricky did not know when she would be ready but he was hopeful.

Why would you be shocked? Of course I love you, you’re one of the most important people in my life.

I - I never thought anyone could actually feel that way about me. Especially someone like you. Beautiful, fun, caring and smart. I hardly deserve you.

That wasn’t hesitation Annie, it was shock. Of course I’m in love with you.

“And here I was thinking you cared about me.”

“Thanks for coming by. I was going crazy from the boredom. My shift ends in a couple of hours and after we can go back to my house.”

Ricky: Working the overnight shift at the gas station so I'm tired. How are you babe?
