Background of Technology and Business
I just recently came back from a conference about how technology in the last few years has improved how my company works. We talked about Flip phones to Black Berries, green screen terminals to a web based system and then we talked about the future and where we need to be. This company is a family company that retains employees very well and an industry that doesn't attract "young" people very much so technology in the eyes of a majority is having a 4 year old computer and sometimes "Google-ing" part numbers. I am one of, if not the youngest employee in the sales and sales support side of the company and I am all about technology.
I had a Droid and despise Apple products and constantly complain about how slow my computer is. I am constantly doing at least 4 things (which I think is common for people my age) and am always ahead of my computer waiting for it to catch up. There is so much technology out there that we don't take advantage of as a business that it frustrates me. Most likely the main reason of this is because of the ideology of don't fix whats not broken. Fortunately, those in charge are looking into improving our use of technology. We have implemented a web based computer system last year after close to 20 years on a terminal system. Great first step! Continuing to upgrade our tech will be extremely important and I see our Black Berries going out as fast as they came in. I'll get to phones in my next post.
