Hey tumblr Its been awhile...
When I started this account I was leasing a horse and dreaming of owing one... two years ago I bought A 10 year old Ottb, he was and still is my heart horse. but damn have we been through so shit in two years time I got about 6 months of solid riding the rest we have been dealing with saddle fitting and scratches so bad he had to get vaccinated for it (its been six months and is almost gone) and the endless back issues of this beautiful sweet horse. finally after hock injections and bring looked at by a few vets. having saddle fittings every two weeks for a few months to chiro, acupuncture and massage. and retiring him two times and calling it quits He's getting seen by a specialist that I should have probably gone to in the first place.
I have lost my one job a few months back it went bankrupt and i didn't get paid for my last month of work. I still have my teaching job but thats only twice a week on weekends so money has not been free flowing. I have spent so much money on this horse I don't dare count it but its over probably 10x his original value. and I just hope to god that for once we can finally find a solution for him, I can 100% know whats wrong and we can treat it or I can give it up and retire him for good knowing that was the only option I had. I could have saved my money and bought the fancy hunter i always wanted, I could have bought a warmblood that didn't weave and have back issues but I loved him I genuinely Loved this horse and thats why i can't give up until i know that i have tried everything under the sun to fix him.
I don't really know the point of the post i think I just needed to get it off my chest, its been a stressful few months and this horse is the one thing that makes everything okay.
Nick skelton rides in an old stubben, spread the word you don’t have to buy fancy new things to be succesfull as an equestrian
But he’s also riding in an ogilvy half pad
Or it’s an ogilvy cover, but then why??
Also, I was told he warmed up over fences in draw reins. So we should talk about that even though it’s not relevant to the initial post and I am sorry about that
He warmed up in DRAW REINS. GASP! The ultimate sin. Drag him and his oglivy.
Riding OVER FENCES in draw reins is literally an incredibly stupid thing to do as it is NOT SAFE AND NOT THE PURPOSE OF THAT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. It’s as painfully stupid as jumping in a standing martingale (yikes look at all those idiotic hunters. ty based GM)
I’ve jumped in them. I use them to help on the flat. If you put them on your billet instead of the girth they won’t get in the way.
Far from the most dressagey thing I’ve done, but it stopped my horse from going full llama when she was bolting after the jump.
But the proper equipment to prevent a horse from going “full lama” after a jump should be a running martingale? Or am I missing something? I obviously wasn’t there and don’t have any more information on your situation than what you just wrote but I don’t understand why you wouldn’t have chosen that piece of equipment instead.
I used to jump (small fences all under 2′6) In draw reins to teach my horse where to keep his head over the fence. now I did over use them on the flat pretty much every ride but I later found out the reason he was a lama was due to back issues (ill fitting saddle) so sometimes they are useful but make sure there is not another reason why your horse is doing something.
Look how cute
seriously drooling over this pair😍 Rio 2016 *not my photo*
