A/N: This one is a bit long and may feel more like a filler than anything, but I feel like I uave to give the other characters some love tok in this! And I apologize for any typos; will go back and fix later! The chapter was typed on mobile! (I think I'll be able to wrap this in one more chapter! Will try to get Ch. 4 out by this weekend)!
Chapter 3
"Tina! Tina!"
"Oh great cassanova, you broke my sister!"
"I didn't mean to--"
"Tina! Whatever you do, don't go into the light! ....Unless its an endless tunnel of chilli fries in which case you better bring some back for me and Louise!"
"Gene! .....But, yeah he's not wrong, T!"
"Open your eyes!"
"Yeah. What J-Ju said, C'mon T-Bird!"
Tima groaned and slowly opened her eyes, blinking as five faces came into focus around her: Zeke, Jimmy Junior, Louise, Gene, and....
"Steve," she turned her head slightly toward him.
"Ohmygod Tina, are you alright?! I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to--"
"Do that again?" she said softly. Everyone froze. Steve blinked, his face warming until the tips of his ears were red.
"Wha-huh?"
"Oh nice job, Siren boy! You Error 404'd my sister with your dumb sexy voice!" Louise cried.
"What?! No I--"
"Yes! You owe us compensation! Look at her!" Louise gently pulled Tina up by the shoulders and shook her gently, "She's a ghost of her former self!"
Gene joined in, grabbing Jimmy Junior and turning him around, "Quick! Tina. How many butts does Jimmy Junior have?!"
Tina blinked, but didn't even glance in Jimmy Junior's butt's direction.
"Um, one?"
Jimmy Junior blinked and looked down.
"Wait, really? It's not two?"
"I think two cheeks make one butt set, buddy" Zeke answered thoughtfully.
"Who cares! Tina didn't even freeze up or blink once at Jimmy Junior's backside! JIMMY JUNIOR! You. Broke. Her!" Louise shouted again, pointing a dramatic finger at Steve.
The poor boy held his hands up defensively, looking overly flustered as Mr. Frond approached with a clipboard in hand.
"Louise, knock it off. Tina. Are you alright? Any headaches? Blurry vision? No need for your folks to file a lawsuit against the school, right?"
"Uh....I'm okay, Mr. Frond, we don't have that kinda money anyway," Tina shrugged. Frond visibly relaxed,
"Oh good! I mean--"
"You don't know WHAT we have! For all you know, our family has a gold mine for inheritance! We're coming for you, Frond!"
"Louise!"
"My folks have resources, we could sue," Steve offered, raising his hand.
Tina blinked at him, "Wait, what?!"
Frond splattered, "What?! But-but-y-you're the reason she fainted in the first place!"
"Yeah, under your adult supervision," Steve shrugged.
"You'd share your family's resources so my family could take advantage of them for me?" Tina asked lowly. Steve's eyes fell heavy as he smiled at her,
"In a heartbeat."
"Aww!" Tina touched a hand to her heart.
"Damn. That was beautiful." Zeke sniffed.
Jimmy Junior scoffed, "It was alright."
"My guy! This guy here, he's family now! Ya'll seeing this?!" Louise asked, throwing an arm over Steve's shoulder.
Mr. Frond shook his head, "I don't have time for this foolishness! Tina, if you're fine, get up and walk it off. We have more activities coming up." Frond said, looking at his clipboard and scurrying off to put as much distance between him and the situation as possible.
"Coward!" Louise shouted after him.
Steve quietly put his hand on top of Tina's and she turned to face him,
"I uh...sorry again. And, I'm glad you're alright," he said, brining her fingers to his lips and kissing her knuckles. Tina gasped, and proceeded to fall into her trademark groan, which Louise and Gene clocked immediately as her heart rate sped up and her cheeks flushed.
"WOAH! Okay, hands off lover boy," Louise said, pulling Tina's hand away.
"Yeah. Before we have to take her to a hospital for real! We don't have that kinda insurance! We're just burger kids!"
"S-sorry!" Steve said.
But Tina couldn't stop smiling--so much that her cheeks hurt.
And Jimmy Junior, oh he definitely noticed.
---------
About 35 minutes later found the students all assembled again as Frond approached the microphone, only to announce they would be partnering with there pen pal to put on an inter-regional talent show to...
"Experience collaboratively learning in an excitingly innovative way."
"This sounds completely bogus!" Tammy whispered, folding her arms tightly against her chest in a huff.
The others agreed, as Frond went on to explain they had all day to come up with an act, which they would perform the next day.
24 hours to come up with a bit with people they'd predominantly only known on paper for a month.
Great.
But Steve cut his eyes around at Tina and beamed. He started toward her, already thinking he could convince her into doing their own rendition of Thriller, when the tall, red haired boy with a lisp intercepted him.
"We need to talk."
Steve gulped.
"Oh....uh..."
15 minutes later found them in the hallway, Jimmy Junior with his arms folded as he stared the bespectacled boy down.
"We're doing an act together. You and me. And you're not getting out of it."
Steve blinked in shock.
"W-wait, what? B-but Tina's my..."
"This way Tina'll be able to see whose the best and who she wants to be her real crush."
Steve narrowed his eyes skeptically..."I don't--how--but, wouldn't it be easier if we competed instead of performing together?"
Jimmy Junior folded his arms and smirked,
"Nope. This way, she'll see which one of us really outshines the other for real! Head to head!"
Steve blinked in confusion as his brain tried to run the calculations. It technically didn't make sense. He looked back in the room at Tina, who was talking with her siblings, then back to Jimmy Junior who was smirking confidently...
Then again, this chould be interesting... Steve smiled.
"Alright, deal. May the boy-crush win."
"Oh, I plan too!" Jimmy Junior said, shaking Steve's hand.
In the end, Tina was confused when Steve and Jimmy Junior explained they'd decided to pair up for the talent show, and slightly disappointed--until Louise pointed out that Tina would probably be too smitten by Steve to coherently perform on stage with him anyway. So, the Belcher sibs decided to revive one of their trademark acts as a slight remix.
As far as the other acts, Jocelyn was partnered to perform with Barry, Zeke with Toshi, Tammy with Snot, and Jimmy Junior's pen pal, Roger, had suddenly went MIA and no one knew where to find him (though J-Ju thought he saw someone suspiciously resembling Roger drowning in drinks at the hotel bar...though he couldn't prove it). So him pairing off with Steve worked out fine.
With that, the teens all practiced with tummies filled with nervous butterflies that made them feel like throwing up as they geared up for their acts.
----
The Next Day...
"Oh my god, I'm so nervous-uh! What if I make a mistake and mess us up?!" Jocelyn said anxiously from behind the curtain, just offstage.
"Don't worry, you won't!" Barry said, trying to comfort her.
"But what if I do-uh?! I'll be the worst pen pal ever and you'll probably hate me-uh!" She said, pouting slightly. Barry gave a small smile and took her hands,
"Jocelyn, you couldn't mess up if you wanted too! And even if you did, I'll be right there with you! And I could never hate you. You've been the best pen pal I could ask for."
She sniffled, "Oh-em-gee, Barry you're so sweet-uh!" She threw her arms around him in a big hug. Oh wow... He flushed, and was about to hug her back before she pulled away, taking his hands in hers with a squeeze. "Ok, let's do this!" She said, determined. He nodded.
With that, the two of them made their way on stage. Behind them was a long buffet table with bowls of various finger foods that had already been brought out: popcorn, grapes, apple slices, diced cucumbers, and different kinds of candies. Jocelyn made her way to the microphone,
"Hiiiii! Um, okay so like, Barry is like REALLY good and catching things with his mouth..."
"And Jocelyn is REALLY good at tossing stuff!" Barry said, briefly grabbing the mic. Jocelyn blushed slightly,
"Aww! Anyway. So like, we wanted to show you guys! Ready Barry?" He nodded,
"Let's do this!"
They started off easy, with Jocelyn stepping just a few feet away from Barry and tossing popcorn toward him, which he caught like a breeze.
Then, they stepped it up.
Jocelyn picked up different finger foods, and tossed them to Barry blindfooded, taking a few steps further and further back with each round.
Eventually, Barry put on a blindfold too, and they were both blindfolded at opposite ends of the stage. At one point, someone even brought out a ladder so Barry could catch the toss while also elevated a few feet higher than Jocelyn! They continued this until the last round where Jocelyn was in the front row of the audience, Barry was onstage, and--with both still blinfolded-- Jocelyn did a ninja star throw of some beignets, which Barry caught with with hands behind his back.
He didn't miss a single throw during the whole act. Needless to say the crowd was in an absolute uproar when they finished. Jocelyn giddily bounced from where she stood before running back on stage and crashing into Barry with a big hug.
"OHMYGOD Barry that was AWESOME-UH! You were amazing!" She kissed his cheek.
Barry's eyes grew wide and he flushed before mumbling that he needed to be excused and bustling off stage. Jocelyn blinked after him, confused, but then shrugged and waved to the audience before heading off herself. Tammy met her just behind the curtains, clasping their hands together and jumping.
"Oh. My god. Jocelyn, that was actually like, NOT lame!"
"I know, right?!" She glanced over at Barry who was surrounded by Steve, Snot, and Toshi, who were all trying to calm him down. Jocelyn approached,
"Um, is Barry okay?"
Snot stepped in front,
"Oh! Er, he's find Joce! He just got a bit winded."
Jocelyn peered around the boys.
"You do look a bit flushed. I'm gonna go get some water for you, okay Barr? Brb!" And with that she skipped off.
Barry stard after her before whining to his friends,
"Guys...this isn't good. She's too nice to me and way outta my league! I can't do this!"
"Barry buddy, don't stress it. She likes you, that's a good thing!" Steve said, putting his hands on his friend's shoulders.
"But girls aren't usually nice to me!"
"Well this one is!"
"I can't handle this! Being around her is making my heart beat like crazy!" Barry said, his breathing picking up.
"Barry! Barry, calm down! Don't think of her as a crush. Okay? Just, think of her as your friend! She likes you, as a friend! Start with that!" Steve said. Barry tried to slow down his breathing.
"A friend? .....A friend....yeah, okay. Okay, I can do that...." he said, staring after Jocelyn as she got water in a small paper cup from a nearby fountain. She turned back toward him and beamed as she approached, and all he could see around her were sparkles through a rose-colored filter. He swallowed thickly.
He knew he was doomed.
-------------
Next up was Zeke and Toshi, who no one thought would be able to come up with an act together.
But it turns out, they had actually bonded in their letters over Zeke having genuine interest in learning Japense, and Toshi being open to hearing about some of the different places Zeke had moved around a lot to.
One thing they both shared an interest in was wrestling, so they used this as an opportunity to teach the other about stylistic differences in the sport--Zeke learning about sumo wrestling and Toshi learning about competitive American middle school wrestling.
"You ready for this Tosh-meister?!" Zeke asked, donned in a custom tailored sumo-wrestling outfit.
"Yarouze, Zeke-kun!" Toshi nodded, in his own tailored American-style competitive wrestling uniform.
When the two came on stage, their bit was more on the performative side. It started with Toshi introducing the name of the sumo wrestling move in Japanese, Zeke translating it to English, then Zeke demonstrating the technique. Then the switch, with Zeke naming a move, Toshi giving the Japanese translation, then Toshi demonstrating it.
Then, in a twist no one saw coming, the two attempted to pit the techniques against each other: Zeke doing his standard American style moves and Toshi doing his sumo style moves. Seeing it with the boys in their opposite cultural garb made it a very interesting performance, and they got a solid round of applause from the kids when they were done. Off stage, the duo attempted to catch their breath. Tina and Jimmy Junior brought them each a Gatorade.
" 'Pppreciate 'cha T-Bird, J-Ju!"
"Hai, arigatou gozaimasu!" Toshi bowed to them after accepting the drink, then turned to Zeke.
"Yoku yatta ne, Zeke-kun!!"
"Arigatou, Toshi-kun! Tanoshikatta yo, mata itsuka yarou yo"
Jimmy Junior blinked, "Wait, Zeke you speak Japense now?"
Zeke shrugged.
"Just a lil' bit. It's pretty cool! Ya'll should try it sometime!"
"You can understand him?!" Steve asked.
Zeke blinked confused, "You can't? How long ya'll been friends for, now?" he asked. Though he already knew because Toshi had mentioned in their letters how frustrating it was that his friends didn't seem to understand him after all this time.
Steve's face heated up in slight embarrassment. Barry, who had come up with Snot, Tammy, and Jocelyn, rolled his eyes,
"Sonna ni muzukashikunai yo," he said.
"Wait, you too?!" Steve asked, baffled.
Everyone started at Barry in shock, especially Toshi.....because if Barry was the one person in the friend group who could understand him this whole time.....this changed everything.
Zeke grinned and held up a hand to high-five Barry?
"Right?! My man here gets it!" He beamed! Barry smiled and high-fived Zeke in return. Jocelyn clasped her hands together.
"Wow! Barry, you're like so smart! Like, Super Smart!"
He flushed, "Er....thanks Jocelyn."
Tammy rolled her eyes, "Ugh, nerd love. Gross. C'mon Lonstein, our bit is up soon and I'm not gonna let you embarrass me!" She said, taking Snot's wrist and dragging him away for them to get ready. He shrugged to their friend group as he was pulled along,
"Hope ya'll enjoy the show!"
The others looked at each other and shrugged before making their eay to their seats. Tammy and Snot's act was about three performances away, and everyone was curious what they would do.
Summary: Elmo's not feeling well. Abby takes care of him. 💕
A/N: I normally approach Elmo with the mindset that he grows out of speaking in the 3rd person as he gets older, but wanted to explore a different fic where he still speaks in that style to see if it could still work for his character.
--------
The rain tapped softly against the windows of the small apartment that Elmo and Abby Cadabby had moved into only three months ago.
It was the kind of rainy afternoon that normally made Abby want to curl up with a book and a cup of tea.
Instead, she stood beside the couch with her hands on her hips.
"Elmo," she said firmly.
Elmo glanced up at her from beneath a mountain of blankets. His orange nose was redder than usual, and he looked thoroughly miserable.
"Abby, Elmo is fine."
Abby raised an eyebrow.
At that exact moment, Elmo sneezed so hard that he nearly dropped the tissue box.
"...Elmo may be slightly less than fine."
"You have a fever."
"A very small fever."
"You've been coughing all morning."
"A tiny cough."
Abby couldn't help laughing.
Even after getting married, Elmo had never stopped speaking in the third person. He'd simply grown into it somehow. It sounded less like a little kid now and more like a charming habit.
"Stay right there," Abby said.
"Elmo wasn't planning on going anywhere."
"Good."
She marched toward the kitchen.
A few moments later she returned carrying a mug of hot tea.
Unfortunately, she was also trying to use magic to carry a bowl of soup at the same time.
The bowl floated neatly behind her.
For about three seconds.
Then her concentration slipped.
The bowl suddenly zoomed across the room like a rocket. The plastic bowl cluttered against the wall. Elmo jolted upright.
"ABBY! You okay?!"
The soup flew in a perfect arc.
Fortunately it landed directly on the coffee table.
Unfortunately it landed upside down.
There was a long silence.
Abby stared.
Elmo stared.
The soup slowly dripped onto the floor.
"...Well," Abby said, "at least nobody got burned."
Elmo sniffled.
"That's a surprisingly positive way to look at that."
Abby shrugged sheepishly, while Elmo gave a small grin and lightly shook his head.
---
After cleaning up the soup disaster, Abby tried a different approach.
She tucked Elmo into the couch and wrapped another blanket around him.
"You are not moving."
"Elmo feels like a burrito."
"Exactly."
Abby sat beside him and gently felt his forehead.
Still warm.
Elmo leaned into her hand.
Being sick was awful.
But being taken care of by Abby was kind of nice.
"You know," Elmo said softly, "Elmo is sorry."
"Sorry for what?"
"Ruining our weekend."
Abby's expression immediately softened.
"Oh, Elmo."
She sat beside him and took his hand.
"You didn't ruin anything."
"But we were supposed to go to the farmer's market."
"We can go next week."
"And the movie night."
"We can have it here."
"And the dinner reservation."
"We can order takeout."
Elmo looked at her.
Abby smiled.
"Being married means taking care of each other, remember?"
Elmo smiled back.
"Elmo remembers."
---
By evening, Abby decided to use a small bit of magic to help tidy the apartment.
Just a little magic.
Nothing complicated.
That was the plan, anyway.
"Floofle-fizzle-fairy-fix!"
Purple sparkles burst from her wand.
The blankets folded themselves.
The dishes stacked neatly.
The pillows fluffed.
Then every tissue in the apartment suddenly came to life.
Hundreds of tissues fluttered into the air like white butterflies.
Abby froze.
"Oh no."
Elmo blinked.
A tissue landed on his head.
Another perched on his shoulder.
Then the entire flock began circling the living room.
"Abby."
"Yes?"
"Elmo thinks the tissues are migrating."
Abby groaned.
It took fifteen minutes and three additional spells to round them up.
One tissue somehow ended up inside a lamp.
Neither of them ever figured out how.
---
Later that night, Elmo's fever finally began to break.
He was resting comfortably on the couch while Abby sat beside him reading.
The apartment was quiet except for the sound of rain.
Elmo shifted closer.
Abby looked up.
"Feeling better?"
"A little."
"Good."
Elmo rested his head against her shoulder, and she smoothly shifted so that his head lay in her lap instead. He closed his eyes and sighed as she gently carded her fingers through his hair.
"Abby?"
"Hm?"
"Thank you."
She smiled.
"For the tea?"
"For the soup."
"The soup that ended up on the table?"
"Yes."
"For the blankets?"
"Yes."
"The tissue invasion?"
"Maybe not that one."
Abby laughed.
"Fair."
A pause
"For taking care of me."
For a moment Abby said nothing.
"I'll always take care of you, Elmo. I love you."
Elmo squeezed her hand.
"Elmo loves you too." Another pause, "Elmo knows he isn't very fun when he's sick."
Abby closed her book. Then she leaned over and kissed his forehead. Elmo closed his eyes at the touch of her gentle kiss.
"You're my husband."
Elmo smiled, staring at her lovingly.
"And you're Elmo's wife."
"Last time I checked," she giggled. He grinned,
"Then Elmo thinks we're doing pretty well."
Abby squeezed his hand.
"I think so too."
Outside, the rain continued to fall.
Inside, surrounded by blankets, magical mishaps, and far too many tissues, the newlyweds settled in together.
And for Abby and Elmo, that was a pretty perfect evening after all.

AGE: 19
Abby bit her lip as she brushed her bangs back from her face in frustration. The nineteen year old sat in her living room, pouring over the books that were spread out around her and upon her coffee table. The young fairy sat on the floor, trying to ingrain ancient shape-shifting incantations into her brain. All of her life she had to learn magical spells, their side-effects, and study a multitude of fairy-tales from a variety of cultures. All of this was essential to her upbringing in making sure that she became a professional fairy. Abby’s studies were important to her, not only because her mom was renowned for being Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother, but also because being a distinguished fairy was simply something that the young girl had her heart set on. But in order to be a highly reputable fairy, she had to hone her abilities to master a variety of spells in a short period of time.
As such, her class curriculum was currently covering the history, culture, and magic associated with German Folklore, and Abby had a midterm coming up in a couple of weeks.
“Okay, let’s see….one common theme in tales that involves shape-shifting for this region is….ah….right okay. Okay. So then…various magical entities may invoke these incantations because…uh-huh…okay….that kind of makes sense…and it’s based on…this… So then…if I break down the foundation….and look at the language….it basically translates to…” she muttered to herself. The girl was so caught up in work that she didn’t hear the door to the apartment open.
“Abby? Elmo’s back! You home?!” a voice called out. The red monster had been dating the pink fairy for a few years now, and they were both sophomores in college. The two had decided to rent an apartment together, even though they had been accepted to two different schools. But the campuses weren’t that far away from each other. On this day, Elmo had run to the store while Abby was in the middle of studying, not knowing that she still had her books open upon his return.
“Okay…so, if I hold my wand up like this and…” Abby muttered to herself, sitting up on her knees and looking more at the book than at any intended target. She then glanced over to her notes, which had her attempted translation of how to break down the syllables of the spell she was about to do. She narrowed her eyes and focused on slowly enunciating the words.
“Abby? Are you still studying?” Elmo asked, approaching the entry way of the living-room. Then…it all happened so fast. As soon as Abby uttered the last syllable, a bright, sparkling blue light shot out of her wand, hit the mirror above the fire place in front of her, and ricocheted over to where Elmo stood. The red monster cried out as he felt a tingling sensation course through him. Then, everything went black. Abby whipped her head around in shock at the direction of the blast.
“E-elmo? GAH! ELMO!” she cried out, rushing over to the pile of clothes that lay on the floor. The grocery bags he had been carrying collapsed, ripping open and spilling out contents which were a now a splattered mess surrounding the clothes. Abby felt her heart race. She panicked. No, there was no way she had…zapped him out of existence, right? She was strictly studying shape-shifting. At LEAST he had turned invisible or something. …Or…or she had turned him into a pumpkin like she had done with many objects back when she was a child. She almost prayed for that. At least she’d know how to turn him back if he was a pumpkin.
“Elmo? Elmo, are you alright? Answer me!” she whispered, her voice wavering nervously. She gently peeled away the folds of the jacket and the blue shirt he had been wearing, when she heard a very tiny “meow.”
Her heart stopped. It was almost too much for her to handle; she was frozen with shock and fear as to what it meant. Surely, that sound wasn’t what she thought it was. As she peered even closer, a red bum with a flickering tail poked its way out of the collar of the shirt. She heard another “meow,” a bit more distressed. Abby gasped and put her hands to her mouth.
“Oh no…” she breathed. She reached out and gently grabbed the waist of the small creature, pulling it fully out of the collar of the shirt. She gently turned him around and peered at him.
“Elmo?” she asked. The creature’s eyes were closed, and its nose was twitching. Its ears moved this way and that, almost as if trying to take in the sounds around it. Two paws came up and swatted at his nose, then the cat sneezed. Afterwards, it slowly opened its eyes.
—
Elmo had a horrible headache. Whatever it was that hit him, hit him hard. Currently he felt a bit light-headed and dizzy.
“Elmo? Elmo are you alright? Answer me!” he heard her voice. Why did she sound upset?
“Abby?” he thought to himself. He moved around, trying to get some concept of where he was. Before long, he felt himself being lifted up and turned around. Something was different. He batted at his nose and sneezed. Then, he opened his eyes. His vision was a bit blurry, but saw Abby staring at him worriedly. He opened his mouth to speak, but strange sound came out….a….a ‘meow?’ Elmo’s eyes grew wide. Why did Abby…look bigger than usual? He slowly held up his hands towards her face, only to see that they were paws. He began freaking out, trembling. He glanced at Abby. She grinned, sheepishly
“Um…I think….I might have made…a tiny mistake with my magic,” she said, giving a nervous laugh. Elmo’s panic grew even more, and he let out a rowdy “REOOW” as he squirmed to get away from Abby. Startled, she dropped him and he darted off towards his bedroom. (Even though they lived together, they decided to have their own bedrooms). Abby stood and gave chase after him.
“Elmo! Elmo, wait, come back!” she cried. Elmo made his way to a mirror he had on the inside of his closet door, which he had left open from earlier that day. He stared at himself with wide eyes and slowly put his two paws against the glass. He….he was a cat. Abby had turned him into a cat! Abby hadn’t turned him into anything in…well…he couldn’t remember how long it had been. A couple of the biggest incidents he could recall were when she had turned him green, and when she had made him a giant, but all of that happened when they were kids. For most of their adolescence, she had gotten better control over her magic and made few mistakes. Even if she did mess up, it usually wasn’t something that she couldn’t fix. But this….something about this gave him a bad feeling.
“Elmo?! Elmo, c’mon, I’m sorry! I was…I was studying ancient spells and, I guess I wasn’t paying attention,” Abby said, coming into his room. Elmo stayed where he was, still reeling from what happened. He wasn’t mad at her, as much as he was surprised and wary. He just…he needed a minute… Abby pouted as she looked around, quickly scanning the room. Where was he?
“Elmo, please? I’m really sorry, okay?” she asked, sliding to sit on her knees to look under the bed. Elmo peeked out from around the frame of his closet door and glanced at Abby. She looked like she was on the edge of becoming distraught. Slowly, tentatively, he began to make his way towards her. When he reached her, he placed one of his paws on her knees at let out a small ‘mew.’ Elmo then snuggled against her leg. Abby let out a breath as she reached out to gently rub Elmo’s ears. He purred softly as he pushed his head against her palm. She gave a strained smile,
“Don’t worry. I’ll…I’ll fix this somehow,” she said.
——
Later, Abby decided to leave Elmo alone while she cleaned up the mess that was leftover from ‘the incident.’ Elmo was currently curled up on the window sill and sleeping rather peacefully, which was a surprise to the young fairy. But she figured that maybe the transformation in itself took a lot out of him. As for herself, she’d had enough studying for the day.
After cleaning up, Abby took her notes and shoved them in her books to mark her place. Then she closed them and piled them up on the coffee table. She stared at the books and pressed her lips together. It had taken her most of the afternoon to simply obtain the spell that had transformed Elmo in the first place. It had taken a lot of multiple references and cross-checking, and she had a headache. She had no idea how long it would take to change him back…or if she even could change him back at all. She was just an amateur at all of this. She felt a lump well up in her throat and her cheeks heated up. Tears welled up in her eyes and she quickly wiped them away with the back of her hand.
“Stupid books,” she whispered to herself. With that, she plopped down on the couch, grabbed a nearby cushion, and held it tightly to her stomach as she buried her face in the fabric. It wasn’t long before the young fairy ended up falling asleep on the couch. She laid on her side and her hair was strewn haphazardly around her face. She had been too stressed to even bother with pulling it back. A million thoughts had run through her head. How could she find a way to reverse the spell? Would she even be able to DO the reversal? What could go wrong? What if something worse happened to Elmo? She had these thoughts and so much more; it was all so overwhelming. She was worn out.
About 10 minutes after she had dozed off, Elmo found himself awake and padding on soft paws towards the couch. As he noticed her tear-stained cheeks, his ears and tail drooped a bit. His heart went out to her.
The red feline bent down, lunged upwards, and landed on her torso. Abby let out an “oof,” but simply groaned and tried to go back to sleep. Elmo walked forward and nestled himself between Abby and the back of the couch. Snuggling under her chin, he began purring. Abby slowly opened her eyes and looked down to see Elmo staring back at her. She blinked.
“Elmo?” she whispered. He lightly licked her nose before purring a bit more loudly. Abby felt herself tearing up again and hugged him close to her.
“I’m sorry. I’ll find a way to change you back, I promise,” she said. With that, the duo both ended up dozing off for the night.
———-
Abby awoke to the sound of insistent meowing early the next morning. She groaned. It was Saturday and she usually slept in on Saturdays. Elmo was the early riser. …wait…Elmo! Oh…so, what happened the day before wasn’t a dream? Well maybe it was, and Elmo just surprised her by bringing a cat home as their new pet? The meowing grew louder until Abby could no longer ignore it. She opened her eyes to see a red cat sitting on the back of the couch, just meowing at her. She blinked twice.
“Elmo…” she whispered. He simply meowed again in response. She stared at him and had to bite back a small laugh. He was absolutely adorable as a cat, and it would be sweet if she wasn’t so terrified of the fact that she might not be able to turn him back into his old self.
If she had been younger, she would simply call her mom up on her cellular wand. However, since Abby was dealing with more ancient magic, she wasn’t sure if her mom could help her. The only other option she could think of would be to ask her professor for help. But it was Saturday, and Abby didn’t know if the amount of time that Elmo was in this state would have some kind of adverse effect on him. In other words, she would prefer to reverse this spell as quickly as possible lest it had some kind of negative side-effect on her boyfriend. Elmo meowed again and she glanced over at him. Sighing, she leaned forward and gently pressed her forehead against his. He purred.
“I’m happy you’re not mad at me. But at least you’re not a pumpkin, right?” He gave her face a small lick and she laughed.
“We’ll figure it out together then, huh? I just wish I could change you back now…” she said, closing her eyes. Elmo did the same, and Abby felt a warmth rush over her. Then, it became really bright. The next thing that Abby knew, she felt a breeze whipping all around her. When she opened her eyes again, Elmo was gone. She blinked in surprise.
“Elmo?” she asked, looking around. She heard a groan, then sat on her knees to peek over the back end of the couch. Elmo was sitting there Indian Style (fully clothed thanks to the magic), rubbing his head. Abby gasped, then flung herself over the back of the couch to tackle Elmo in a huge hug.
“AH! OOF!” he cried, falling to the ground. Abby tightened her grip.
“You’re back! You changed back!” she said, fluttering her wings excitedly. Elmo let out a choking sound,
“Um…Abby? E-elmo loves hugs and all but, h-he can’t breathe!” he said. Abby loosed her grip and pulled back a bit, now seat in his lap.
“Oh, sorry!” she said, blushing. He laughed.
“I-it’s alright.”
“But what happened? How did you-?”
“Elmo’s not sure. The last thing he remember is closing his eyes and wishing the same thing you did,” Elmo said. Abby furrowed her eyebrows a bit and looked down in deep thought.
“Dual-wishes?” she asked.
“Hm?”
“Both of us wishing at the same time… I mean, I’ve never thought of that before but…”
“Well, you are a fairy. Maybe it made your magic stronger or something? Since we both wished for it?”
“Well, yeah I guess. People haven’t really mentioned fairies granting their own wishes much, let alone dual wishes,” Abby said. It was definitely something she’d have to ask her professor about when she got back to school. After a moment of silence, Abby realized that Elmo wasn’t saying anything. She looked up to see him just smiling at her.
“W-what is it?” she asked.
“Abby was really worried about Elmo, huh?” he asked. She flushed a bit.
“W-well…I mean I….I didn’t know if you’d be okay so…and it was my fault and…and I’m sorry I-…” Elmo cut her off by pulling her into a soft hug.
“It’s okay, Abby, don’t worry about it. But next time, if you want us to get a cat, just ask,” he said. Abby couldn’t help but to burst out into giggles at this, and Elmo joined in with his own laughter.

Author’s Note: Fast paced & super short ending, I know! I really want to expand on this more later. Like, I was trying to think of some hijinks for kitten-Elmo to get into, but I didn’t want the story to be too long either. Anyway it’s been sitting on my desktop for a while and I really like it so far so, yeah.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Inspired by THIS prompt from OTPPrompts: Imagine person A from your OTP is a clumsy magician and that one day they accidentally turn themself into a frog. The only way to break the spell is for their significant other, person B, to kiss them… except person B can’t stop laughing at A long enough to actually go through with it.

“Yeah, we’re at the bus stop right around the corner. …Right. Okay, thanks dad,” Elmo said. With that, he ended his call on his cell phone and let out a deep sigh.
“He said he’ll be here in about 15 minutes,” he said, pocketing his cell phone. He looked up and down the street before turning his attention to the young fairy sitting on the bench just to the side of him. She sat with her legs together, her elbows on her knees, and her chin resting in her hands. She looked like she was off in another world as she absently stared ahead.
“Hey, you okay?” Elmo asked.
“Huh? Oh! Uh…y-yeah I just. I was just thinking,” she said. Elmo sighed,
“Elmo’s sorry, Abby. If he’d paid more attention to the time, we wouldn’t have missed the last bus.”
“Mmh-mmh, it’s not your fault Elmo. I lost track of the time too,” Abby said, scooting over and patting the space next to her. Elmo gave a small smile at sat down. Both teens sighed. Earlier that day, Abby had expressed to Elmo that she needed to pick up some books on the origins of fables. Apparently her class was studying how the foundation of the fables could be used in spells and how one needed to be careful when associating them with magic. After all, one didn’t want to cast a spell to “make someone sweet” and accidentally turn them into some type of treat simply because they were thinking of Hansel and Gretel or the Gingerbread Man during the casting. So, the duo had spent practically all day at the library.
Abby had taken it upon herself to go ahead and start studying some of the books she had picked up while they were there. Elmo pretty much kept to himself so as not to bother her. But he also looked up some books for her, and did some research on the computer as well. After several hours, they grabbed something to eat at a McDonald’s across the street. Then, they went back to the library and eventually lost track of time. They managed to leave just a few minutes before the library closed. However, by the time they made it to the bus stop (which several blocks away), they had just missed the last bus that was running for that route.
“Well, at least I got a lot of studying done,” Abby said, trying to start a light topic of conversation.
”Yeah, you kept your nose in the books practically all day. Elmo thought that you might get sucked into the pages,” Elmo laughed. Abby shoved him gently.
“Very funny,” she said. Then, it fell silent.
“So when’s your test?”
“Hm, in three weeks so I’ve still got some time to study everything. I guess the way I kinda crammed today wasn’t really necessary,” Abby laughed. Elmo smiled.
“Nah, it’s cool. You were getting a head start. It just means you’re dedicated. It’s not a bad thing,” he said.
“Hmm, I still feel kinda bad for dragging you all the way out here for so long.”
“Ah, Elmo needed to get out of the house, anyway.”
“Well, it was nice of you. I appreciate you tagging along,” Abby said. Elmo nodded, and the two fell silent again. Elmo pulled out his phone to check the time. His dad should be arriving soon. Abby glanced around at the scenery some more. It was a pretty quiet night. There were a few people walking around, and just a few stores were open, but no one was in them. Abby could tell that all of the businesses getting ready to close. She shivered a bit and rubbed her arms. Elmo noticed the motion out of the corner of his eyes,
“Are you cold?”
“Oh, no. I mean…it’s a little chilly but it’s alright, no worries,” she replied. Still, he shed his jacket and handed it to her.
“It’s fine Elmo,” she said.
“Hey, Elmo’s got more fur than you so he’s warmer. Go ahead and take it,” he said. Abby gave a small smile.
“Thanks,” she said, putting the jacket on. She glanced up at the night sky, just barely being able to make out a few twinkling stars in the midst of the street lamps that were on. But she could see the moon.
“The moon’s pretty tonight,” she said. Elmo looked up,
“Yeah, it’s really bright,” he muttered. Then, he found an old tune rising up from the recesses of his mind, and he began to sing softly,
“The moon shiiines
High above the roof tooops,
High above the tree tooops,
Up above my heaaad.” Abby blinked at him in surprise as he continued to croon.
“The moon shiiines
Peeking through my windooow
Shining on the pictuuure
Up above my heeead.” At this point, Abby had scooted over a bit closer and gently rested her head against her friend’s shoulder. Elmo gave a small smile and kept singing,
“In bed nooow
I’m safe beneath my tree tooops
Safe beneath the roof tooops
And the clouds so hiiigh
For the moon shiiines
Keeping watch above meee
Lighting up my window
My tree, and my skyyy.”
“That’s a nice song,” Abby said quietly. Listening to him sing it was very soothing.
“Yeah…it’s from the earlier days of Sesame Street, when Elmo was much younger. Mom used to sing it all the time. It’s one of Elmo’s favorites,” Elmo said.
“Hmm.”
“…Are you tired?”
“A bit….I’m just gonna rest my eyes a minute, okay?”
“Okay. Sure, go ahead,” Elmo said. As Abby dozed off, Elmo reached into his pocket and checked his phone again. About 7 minutes had passed. He sighed and glanced up at the night sky again. He had forgotten that song; it hadn’t crossed his mind in a long, long time. Any time his mom sang that tune when he was a kid, he had always felt as if the moon were an angel watching over him and the people he cared about. It almost felt magical and peaceful. Glancing down at Abby he was happy that he could help her also feel at ease simply by sharing the song.
As Elmo let his mind wander to how much things had changed between the time before and after Abby’s arrival to Sesame Street, he almost didn’t notice his dad’s red 1994 Chevy Blazer pull up. The passenger window rolled down and Elmo’s dad leaned forward.
“Elmo? Ya’ll ready, son?” he asked. Elmo nodded, then gently shook Abby awake.
“Abby? Abby c’mon, our ride’s here,” he said. Abby groaned and snuggled a bit closer,
“Five more minutes,” she said. Elmo laughed lightly,
“Elmo thought that you were just resting your eyes,” he said. She groaned again and sleepily sat up. She was slightly disoriented as she looked from the car in front of them to Elmo.
“Wha-?”
“We’re heading home, Abby,” he said.
“Oh…oh okay,” she whispered, nodding as she stood up and shouldered her backpack. Elmo stood with her and lightly took her arm to steady her. He then opened the back, passenger-side door so that she could slide inside. He slid in after her.
“You guys have fun today?” his dad asked.
“Yeah. We got a lot done. Elmo thinks Abby’s exhausted though,” he said.
“Yeah, studying will do that to ya,” his dad said, putting the car into gear and driving off. It wasn’t long before Elmo realized that his shoulder had become Abby’s pillow again. She was really tired…and come to think of it, so was he. The red monster’s eyes grew heavy as the car glided smoothly along the pavement. He glanced over at Abby, noticing how the beams of the moonlight would dance across her face every now and then. Elmo smiled; a wave of tranquility washed over him. He gently rested his head against hers, his hand covering her own. He’d rest his eyes for a bit too, just a bit.
And Elmo’s dad glanced up in his review mirror at the two teens in the backseat. The image was reminiscent of them falling asleep against each other as he drove them home from play-dates they had together when they were kids.
A/N: Just another cute, quick, story fiction that I wanted to get down before I forgot! Enjoy the fluff! 💕
A 15-year-old Elmo leaned against the headrest of his bed with a comic book in his hand when he heard the telltale sign of tingling bells that indicated his girlfriend was about to poof before his presence.
Sure enough, about ten seconds later, she appeared before him in a flurry of sparkles, floating upside down and obscuring his vision from the page he was on.
He grinned as hevputvhis book to thr side, "Well, I guess I'm putting my comic book on hold because a cute fairy has decided to grace me with her presence today..."
"Hello to you too!" she beamed with a giggle.
And he felt his tummy flutter at her smile.
"What's up?"
"Mmh," she shook her head, "Just wanted to see you!" she said, adjusting her position so she was stretched out above him horizontally while floating in mid-air as if lying on her stomach.
He grinned, "Well, I'm always happy to see you too," he said, as she floated closer to rub her nose against his.
He couldn't help himself as he gently took her hand and pulled her down to snuggle close in his arms.
She sighed resting her head on his chest to hear his heartbeat, cuddling close before pausing.
"Hey...."
"Yeah?"
A beat,
"How do you know...you really love me? That its not because of like some spell or something?" she asked, with a teasing, mischievous grin.
He blinked at her, then tilted his head with the softest expression, that made her heart skip a beat as he reached up and caressed her cheek with a warm, genuine smile.
"Abby...even if it was, the best thing that could happen would be for me to fall under your spell."
She blushed, face growing hot?
"R-really?" she asked shyly.
"Of course, silly! How could I not? You're you!"
With that, she tackled hugged him, squeezing him tightly.
He gasped, but squeezed her back warmly, "But why are you asking? Everything okay?"
She shook her head, "Mmh, nothing...and Yeah. I'm fine. I just needed to hear it," she said.
And with that, she softly kissed his nose, and gave him a gentle peck on the lips before snuggling close to him and sighing warmly, content.
"You have me under your spell too by the way..." she whispered.
He huffed a laugh, "Okay, good to know because that's like the only spell I can do, apparently."
And she couldn't help but to fall into a fit of giggles against him as he held her close.
A/N: Inspired by the 9:20 Mark of this Vanity Fair video where they took a Lie Dector Test.
Okay....so this turned to be more emotional angsty then I anticipated.
I may do another version that's a bit more comedic given the energy of the clip that originally inspired this? My original intent was for Piggy to be in comedic denial before eventually caving but.....this took on a mind of its own...as stories tend to do.
But then again this may work better?
ANYWAY, have a long overdue, soft, romantic, but emotionally angsty Kermiggy fic. Still post-breakup. Let me know what you guys think!
Wrote this on Android Mobile so plz forgive any typos!

Secrets.
He had asked her, if she had any secrets...and the hesitation in her eyes, in her voice, spoke volumes.
The fact that she'd ended up escalated to a rapid fire avalanche of confusing responses that didn't make sense, while annoying at the time, just made everything all the more suspicious in hindsight.
But she didn't know, that the Proctor had pulled Kermit off to the side post the Vanity Fair shoot, and shown him the printout results of the lie dector...
They were...interesting...so say the least.
Before she had disconnected the machine..that last question...about any secrets she'd had from him.....yielded...intriguing results.
Very intriguing.
Enough that he felt it had warranted a follow-up.
So that night, he had actually decided to treat her to a dinner at one of her favorite, fancy resturants--one they had often frequented when they were still together.
She had been on a very anxious high since the shoot, so he'd decided to treat her to calm her down...
...and, if he were honest, to lower her guard juuust enough for his plan to work.
Becsuse he's needed to know the truth, and Piggy hobestly always got a little loose when she was slightly tipsy, relaxed, and safe....with him.
She always felt safe with him.
That had never changed.
So about 45 minutes into their evening, after indulging themselves in a steak dinner with Piggy having down just a little over a third of her glass of wine...Kermit noticed that she'd been a bit more giggly and chatty.
He had missed that side of her honestly, it was still cute.
"T-that Proctor lady was crazy, honestly! Didn't you think so, Kermie? The test was rigged! It wasn't fair, I d-didn't lie about anything!"
"Sooo you're not intimidated by Cate Blanchet?" he said with a smirk. She pouted,
"Sh-shaddup..." she muttered. He chuckled,
"I'm just teasing, Piggy."
She stuck her tongue out at him before giggling again, then sighing...longingly.. as she made eye contact with him.
"I've missed this..." she said, slowly sliding her hand across the table to gently brush her fingers against his.
He swallowed, feeling his heart increase as he noticed that her eyes had a hint of that twinkle she always used to have when she looked at him.
She'd tried do hard to stifle it....he hadn't seen it in months.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah....a little..."
Slowly, Kermit gave her fingers a gentle squeeze, before gently moving to hold her wrists in his hands, his fingers softly caressing the insides of her wrists.
He heard her gasp.
"Me too," he said lowly.
A beat....as he could feel her heart racing under his fingertips. He took a breath, beforr fixing her with his gaze.
A beat.
"Piggy..."
"Hm?"
He opened his mouth, then closed it....deciding to ease into first.
"What do you think about me?"
She blinked, surprised at his random question, before smirking,
"Whaddya mean? Y-you're my best friend, silly! What a funny question!"
A small grin tugged at his lips, "You're mine too."
She looked down, blushing shyly.
"....So....you still care about me?"
Her head shot up, her eyes going wide before shifting into hurt that he'd even ask.
"Of course, I never stopped..." she said softly. Then added, "What's with you all of a sudden?"
He opened his mouth...the next question on the tip of his tongue...."Do you still love me?" .....but he couldn't....it was too loaded.
Too heavy.
Instead, he looked down at her hands in his own, her the pulsation of her heart was a bit calmer now under his fingers. He rubbed her skin again, gently. Then looked up...
One more question...
"Are you sure....you don't have any secrets you want to tell me?"
She opened her mouth...the froze.
Her brain calibrating.
Eyes going wide.
He was staring at her... just waiting.
Oh. She wanted to tell him....tell him that she still loved him. She never stopped.
But she couldn't....she couldn't open that door.
She bit her lip, trying to think of a response, looked down in deep thought. Her heatts had started to increase in rhythm, but Kermit gently squeezed her hand.
Then, she looked up, fixing him with a steady gaze of her own.
"You....you mean the world to me," she said softly, her eyes tearing up a little, "Always have. That's never stopped. It never will," she said.
And it was all she could offer now.
A beat, before he gave her a gentle smile. He then lifted her hand, and pressed a gentle, lingering kiss against her skin--just over where his thumb could feel her pulse point, which increased as she gasped.
"You mean the world to me too," he whispered, shifting his lips against the palm of her hand.
She held her breath as he pulled back, "You'll always have my heart, Piggy."
She swallowed, "...And you'll always have mine," she whispered.
Because even though it went unsaid....they both knew, that Kermit now knew her deepest secret.
Elmo and Abby Cadabby were having a study date in the park....well...they were trying too.
Elmo was trying to review flashcards for an upcoming math test, and Abby was trying to practice one of her levitation spells....the only problem was...
"It's not working!!" The young fairy cried in frustration as she shook her wand about like it owed her money.
Her furry boyfriend raised en eyebrow at her in concern,
"Ummm...Are you sure your wand has enough juice?"
"UGGGHHH!" She collapsed backwards into the grass. "Yes! Fully charged before I came here! This sucks! The spell's not even that hard!" she cried waving her arms about.
Elmo bit his lip, trying not to laugh at his girlfriend's dramatic theatrics.
"....Maybe...your just stressed?" Elmo suggested helpfully....or, what he hoped was helpful...
Judging by the glare on his fairy face, it wasn't.
"Gee, ya think?"
He rolled his eyes and sighed, "Alright. C'mere."
She pouted and turns away defiantly.
"Hmph."
"Oh, so you turn down cuddle offers now?" he said teasingly.
A pause, then she slowly sat up and, a bit chagrined, crawled into his arms. The boy smiled, pulling her to sit between his legs and wrapping her snugly in his embrace so that her head was tucked just so under his neck.. cheek against his chest, to hear--feel his heartbeat, as one hand soothed that sweet spot just between her wings.
She hummed.
Absolutely melted against him.
"Just relax, Abby... Elmo's gotcha." he said softly.
And she found her breathing subconscious synchronizing with his as she closed her eyes...
Slowly.
Steadily.
Sure.
Serene.
Not realizing the tiny little daisies and dandelions that slowly began to lift off the ground in the gentlist of calming twirls around them.
...Because her wand wasn't what needed charging....
A notion that she should actually embrace more and find comfort in, since honestly, no one is perfect....except she's not "No One."
She's Someone. ...Someone that everyone sees as, and expects to be flawless.
Yet ironically, the one truly perfect thing about her life, is how imperfect she can genuinely be when she's with him....that she can just...be...at all.
And he may be the only one who sees that, but she honestly wouldn't have it any other way.
Elmo often thought about the old days when he and Abby used to doodle with sidewalk chalk and color with finger paints.
And the funny thing was, even now at age 14, they hadn't outgrown it.
Even now, after she had come over for a study session that had somehow transitioned to cooking brownies, binging Pixar films, and indulging their inner kid-ness with finger painting..he couldn't help himself as he reached over and gently smeared some residual green paint on her cheek as his thumb caressed her face.
She blushed, glowing a soft pink as she squeaked and asking what he was doing with a slightly nervously giggle.
And he simply shrugged, with a bright grin and a twinkle in his eyes as he said, "Just admiring a masterpiece."
Everyone knew it, she knew it (even if she tried to deny it), and most important of all, he knew it.
He knew it well, how she could run so hot that you were more than likely to get burned just by breathing in her general direction--which is why everyone mostly tended to give her a wide berth.
Except him, because he knew that with one touch, one look, her temperature would drop gently and she would instantly melt against his cool, soothing touch--his essence, her anchor.
Because yes, she ran hot; but as long as she had him to ground her, to steady her, to soothe the very nature of her...that heat could never truly consume her wholeness of herself.

@capribornio Thanks for this! I haven't written for them in a while so I was excited to see a Kermiggy prompt! Hopefully I haven't lost my touch!
He'd never really thought about how calming a zipper was--not just the motion of pulling the tab up and down, but also the sound of the zip, zip, zip, marking the control of being able to open and close something at will.
On the one hand, it was like an easily accessible fidget toy, but on the other there was a certain psychological power he'd never appreciated before.
Because in the end, it all came down to this--whether he would open his backpack and give the girl with the bespectaled glasses and love for butts the little horse pendant he'd lucked out on from a cereal box, or close it and let the hypothetical live on rent free in his head forever.
Zip, zip, zip, zip....she looked at him, he knew for the noise more tham anything, but he also knew that was his cue--now or never.
Zeke took a breath, zipped opened his bag, wraped his hand around the little box and squeezed it tightly before presenting it to Tina, his hands slightly sweaty with anxiety....until she looked at it, eyes wide, and graced him with a small, warm smile--ome that made him light up and told him that maybe, just maybe, a door to new possibilities had just opened.
Tina Belchee had never considered herself a hero; she was a weird girl, who fantasized about talking horsed and liked butts a little too much.
But even she couldn't ignore how much Zeke was suddenly trying to talk to her, and spend more time with her.
And surprisingly, he wasn't as annoying as she thought--he was actually...kinda sweet.
And when she questioned why he wanted to hang out with her more than Jimmy Junior all of a sudden, his face turned a soft shade of red as he somewhay shyly that said he couldn't help being drawn to his hero.
And Tina's heart skipped a beat--because if a strong, dependable, kid like Zeke who was always looking out for others saw her as a hero...then maybe, just maybe, there was way more to the weirdo girl wanted secretly to date a baseball team of zombies boys than she gave herself credit for.
Not just becausd of her bubbly infectious perspoality, but slso because she always left a literal trail of bright, shiny sparkles in her wake wherever she went.
And Elmo often told her how much she could brighten a room just by walking, er....poofing-in her entrance.
But what Elmo didn't know, was that in Abby's eyes, between his bright smile, his warm laughter, his big hugs that felt like home, and his even bigger heart, she thought he shined brighter than she ever could.
She didn't even need the sun after all, not when she had her bright, favorite monster by her side to keep her warm.
Summary: Takes place after "Get Her to the Zeke." Zeke learns just how much he's appreciated.
A/N: THIS WASN'T PLANNED. Idea came to me after I made this post earlier today. Typed on mobile and not proofread, so I apologize for any missed typos!

Tina blinked at Jimmy Junior in surprise as the noise of the lunchroom created a muffled vubble around them. "You've....never gotten Zeke a Valentine?"
Jimmy Junior, who was sitting next to her, scrunched up his face, not in disgust but confusion.
"Why would I? We're not in a relationship or anything? Isn't Valentine's Day like, romantic for coupley-couples?"
Tina's eyes grew wide.
"Jimmy Junior!! You don't have to be in a romantic relationship! Valentine's Day is supposed to show people you care about how much you care, whether romantic or not! It can be familial, platonic...!"
Jimmy Junior's face fell at this,
"Oh....Oh my god! What have I--?! I've missed out on letting him know what he means to me!!" He turned to Tina, nearly knocking over his lunch tray as he grabbed her shoulders, "He's like my rock Tina! If anyone deserves a Valentine, it's Zeke!"
Tina fixed him with a steady glare, "I know. And this year, we're gonna fix it!" she said, asked the two of them turned their gaze to Zeke, who was across the room giving his tator tots and pudding to a kid who was crying. Zeke rustled the younger kids hair and the boy lit up before giving Zeke a hug.
The country boy then approached his two besties and sat in front of them. "'S'up, J-Ju! T-Bird! What're ya'll talking about!"
"Uh...nothin'" Jimmy Junior mumbled.
"Zeke," Tina turned to him fully, "Have you ever had a Valentine."
The boy paused mid sip, pulling his milk carton away and revealing a milk mustache.
He gave a weak smile, and it didn't reach his eyes, "Aw c'mon, Tina. Ain't no one thinkin' of givin' me a Valentine!"
Her heart dropped, and her and Jimmy Junior's faces fell.
"Zeke..." she said softly.
He waved his hand,
"It's fine! I've learned not to expect it anyway..."
That just made it worse.
"But Zeke," Jimmy Junior started. The boy shrugged,
"Look, it ain't no big deal, really! Let's talk about somethin' else!"
His two friends shared a concerned look that he missed. They had to do something.

The following week, Peter Pescadero had been going around from classroom to classroom delivering Val-O-Grams to kids--cards, flowers, candies, and bundles kids had bought to share their affections with their crushes and friends.
Peter walked into the 8th grade literature class and walked right up to Zeke, who stood immediately upon noticing the boys' hands were practically overflowing with deliveries.
"Do ya need some help there Petey-Boy?! I've gotcha--!"
"Um....actually Zeke, a couple of these are for you..."
A pause, the clsss quieted down and all eyes turned to Zeke. He stood there in shock, his brain scrambling to catch up and process what he was hearing.
"D-Do-what?! Nooo...that can't--"
"Yes....here...uh..." Peter put the gifts down on a nearby table and sifted through the deliveries.
"Here, 3 roses, a card, and a bag of candy mix like Pop Rocks, Sticky Sugar Booms, and some Reese's Pieces. Here you go!" Peter extended the roses, bag of candy, and card to Zeke.
But....he didn't take it right away.
He just...stared at them....like he was afraid they would bite him....which they could--this whole thing could bite him in the butt and he didn't know if he wanted to take that risk.
This....was this a dream? Had he fallen asleep on the bleachers during gun class again?
He frowned.
"I don't...I don't understand..."
"Take it Zeke!" Tina whispered, unable to keep the grin off her face and the excitement out of her voice. He turned to her, fear in his eyes that this was some horrible mistake.
"But...ugh...ya don't understand, T-Dog! This doesn't.....HAPPEN to me!"
"Well, it's happening now!"
"Yeah! Go on, Zeke!" Jimmy Junior whispered, practically bouncing in his seat with his own waves of excited energy coursing through him. The boy turned to his brother in arms.
"But..." his eyes shifted anxiously "But, J-Ju, what if....it's like a cruel prank or something?!"
Jimmy Junior frowned, growing frustrated now, "Who in the world puld prank you, you're a saint!"
The other kids in the room murdered in agreement.
"Zeke, you're sweeeeet-uh! It makes sense that someone would give you a Valentine!" Jocelyn said.
"Also, you're wasting time, just take the darn gifts, or I will!" Tammy said.
"But..." Zeke turned back to Peter, "But who...."
"Why don't you....read the card?" Tina suggested gently. She had stood up, approached, and took the card in Peter's hand, holding it before Zeke. He looked from Tina, to the card, and back to Tina. She was beaming, and his own eyes grew wide in realization and his gaze locked with hers.
"T-Bird..." he whispered softly.
She nodded im encouragement.
Zeke swallowed thickly before reaching out with shaky hands and taking the card.
Zeke, this is long overdue, but also the perfect time to let you know how much you are valued.
We love you, thanks for being awesome!
T & J
Oh.
Oh no....his vision was going blurry as he teared up...he couldn't see. As his eyes shot up to dart between Tina and Jimmy Junior, who had also gotten up to stand by Tina's side, they were just blurry blobs.
"Happy Valentine's Day, Zeke!" Tina said.
"Do, do you like it?" Jimmy Junior asked, slightly anxious.
Zeke sobbed and let out a gasp, "I-I LOVE IT!" he scooped both of them up in the tightest of hugs.
"Both of you, get over here! Ugh! Oh! You guys are the best!"
"Hahah! Glad you like it!" Jimmy Junior grinned.
"Y-yeah. We love you Zeke but....um...we can't breathe!" Tina gasped. She wasn't as used to Zeke's tight holds as Jimmy Junior was. He let then go,
"S-sorry, I'm sorry!" he sniffed, rubbing at his nose with his arm.
The two smiled. Tina took the flowers from Peter and Jimmy Junior took the bag of candy. They both presented the gifts to Zeke.
"Okay, soooo, can you take your presents now because we got them for you and if you don't we'll fell bad," Tina said.
Zekd laughed,
"Sorry sorry. Yes! Yes, I love'm!" He took the 3 roses and the bag of candy, but couldn't stop tearing up.
"I...this uh...don't happen to me a lot so...I..m."
"You don't have to say anything, Zeke!" Jimmy Junior said, his eyes also tearing up now.
Zeke choked on a sob again.
"But, ugh, I-I didn't get ya'll nothin'!"
"Don't worry about it!" Tina said,
"Yeah, you're presence is our present! That's enough!"
Zeke bit his lip, looking at his gifts again, "Oh man, I didn't have sobbing at guts out on my Bingo card today! Heheh!" he looked at them again, "Really, thank ya'll! Ya'll don't know how happy thinks makes me!" he said.
At this the class began to applaud, even as Peter began moving around to deliver the rest of the gifts.
Zeke then offered to share his candy with them, so they could bask in the affection together, and they agreed. Any extra pieces he had, he also shared with other classmates.
Because that was Zeke. He was a giver.
And though it was quiet, and went unspoken, it wasn't lost on the trio that Jimmy Junior had gotten Zeke his favoeite candies...because he knew him. And Tina had gotten Zeke the 3 roses.....one for each of them. Zeke clocked it right away, and vowed he'd take care of them forever because they were so precious to him....the flowers, Jimmy Junior, and Tina.
