in my defense i was mega rushing this on my phone at a family reunion bc it was due in 4 hours along with a paper

recently, I covered yama’s 偽顔 (nisekao) and posted it on YT, and since i have a lot of time on my hands, i thought maybe it’d b fun to document the process of making the cover‼️

Main Vocals

so at first i just roughly sang whatever felt right to me to kinda get a feel of how i wanted my voice to portray the song

also split main vocals into 2 layers so that i could breathe a bit haha

i didnt cut during my takes very often during this process bc i was still early on in the cover so yea very rough draft kinda like sketching for artists yk

once i kinda knew what direction i wanted to sing certain lines i started cutting certain parts of my initial takes that i didnt like and rerecording my mines

the time it takes kinda varies w each line since all of them vary in difficulty for me; for example, im not rlly good at controlling my falsetto voice, so the “nuide mitai / engi de mo no nara / sore mada kata yosenagara” lines fucked me up a bit and even when i was well over w harmos i was still retaking that bit haha

yea but once i start finding the direction i wanna sing in, i start nitpicking on timing and cutting up NG lines, which does sometimes sound awkward bc you can clearly tell which lines r 2 whole different takes 😭 but it wasnt too bad for this cover

hmm based off of my bandlab save timestamps, im gonna roughly estimate that i took abt 2 hrs recording mains?? again im a deep perfectionist so maybe it took longer haha im not sure but this was a pretty short song so in my eyes it didnt take long

“All eyes too deep” Lines

so um if yk Nisekao yk that yama has glitchy lines in the beginning, middle, and end of her song that sing “all eyes too deep” so yea thats what i did next js so that there were no empty lines in my recording lol

honestly it was js a lot of copy and pasting and timing but it still fucked me up bc for some reason it was rlly hard to stay in tune??? 😭 the timing felt off too i didnt rlly know what i was doing i also SANG THE LYRICS WRONG so i had to redo everything during harmo recording 💔

Harmony Vocals

i have a confession… i cant hear harmos in songs for shit 💔💔💔

so what i usually do is i listen to a song and differentiate if it has high and/or low harmos

then i take out a piano up i installed on my phone and play the melody, take it up/down 2 keys depending on the type of harmo and YAY!!!! i now know how to sing a harmony :D ofc, this doesnt work for all songs, but it worked for this one 🫶

so i combed thru the OG nisekao for harmos, played them on my piano app for clarity, and recorded my harmony lines

nisekao’s harmos consisted of a high+low harmo and a high+low octave, but they werent hard to decipher (thankfully) 🙏 on the word “faker” and the end of each chorus tho, there was a harmo that was smth in between a high harmo/octave which adds a nice touch to the song

timing harmos while recording has always been difficult for me, but i learned harmos dont have to be insanely tight in order to sound good haha as long as theyre not jarringly off time, itll b fine 👍

also there are some harmos on the “all eyes too deep lines” which ended up making me hit the 16 layer limit on bandlab LMAO

Extra Vocals

there was doubling on the chorus main vocals so i recorded another take on a different layer

not hard since i didnt have to be accurate to my OG take i was js trying to give the chorus a bit of depth

AH YEA and on some parts of the chorus the vocals sounded grittier? so i doubled those parts and added face melter on it

Mixing

yea im buns at mixing… confession i start off w bandlab presets and customize it to my liking im not a mixer 💔💔 and this was very apparent in this cover lol

for starters, i use the Hifis (Hifi Comp/Scoop) for my main vocals since they auto compress my vocals and give them a clean listen then i js adjust reverb a bit

what rlly got me was the harmos and the “all eyes too deep” lines 😭 i ended up w psychedelic vocals on both and doubling “all eyes…” telephone to give it more grit (all eyes harmos used face melter, edited it bc it sounded too loud and jarring at first tho)

volume adjustment sucks 💔 i think i js have bad ears i dont know how loud some harmos have to b so i lowkey winged it and based it off what sounded “right” to me :,)

i am also voice catfishing bc i use a very weak autotune (REMI FAKE SINGER) since i dont have a tuning program 🫩 js have to sing near the right notes and pray autotune catches it…

also used bandlabs mastering feature… Tape -5.6dB :9

Video Editing

honestly there isnt much to talk abt here… i have made fleshed out MVs in Capcut before (not good ones tho haha) but for nisekao i js downloaded the original MV and slapped my recording in .wav format onto it LOL then i js exported it aaaand yea UPLOAD TIME‼️

yeah so i made a tumblr blog yaaaay!! i thought i would start off by dropping that over like the past few months i've been editing caleb love and deepspace onto toilets

originally, he was a normal toilet. mc's childhood toilet, comfy, familiar. however, after a terrible explosion he was was DESTROYED. or at least, that's what we thought...

UNTIL HE CAME BACK!!! but different. with a newly installed state of the art bidet. it was never the same (for better or for worse)
