Tell us about The Wandering Project. How did it come about, and did you achieve everything you wanted to?
The Wandering Project was an idea that came about after the trip was finished. I knew I wanted to make a tangible piece after spending two months on the road, and a good friend and designer of mine, Madison Bracken, helped me put the book together. I didn’t necessarily have any goals for the trip, I left with little expectation and just wanted a great adventure seeking out to see the wonder of the country from a wandering lifestyle. The trip, and traveling to any new areas of the world always gives me more than I can imagine in many aspects.
Have you applied anything you learned on this trip to others, such as your adventure in Costa Rica?
Traveling in the van was much more than taking photographs, it gave me a fresh perspective on a new way to live. Life in a van and on the road brings out almost every part of a person, the good and bad. It teaches how easy it is to live with very little and remain so happy. It’s different from life in a city where there is so much happening around and you are pressured into thinking you need so much, when we really can survive happily with so much less. I learned a lot from that trip and have applied what I learned every day, traveling or remaining stationary.
