“Thank you.” She breathed, visibly relaxing at the words. “Really. I’m Riley, by the way.”

“Yeah sure,” Aoife replied. “Let’s go.”
“Thank you.” She breathed, visibly relaxing at the words. “Really. I’m Riley, by the way.”
david-reynolds:
“You what?” David stopped in his tracks, brows raised in surprise. He had truly never thought he’d even hear his name again, let alone that she’d been talking to him again. “When you say talking- what do you mean exactly?”
It was exactly what Riley had been afraid of, and she shrunk slightly back into herself. She hated disappointing people - especially David. “Literally just talking, so fix your eyebrows.” She grumbled, giving him a face. “And where’s that beer?”
david-reynolds:
“Well, I’m flattered that I’m your type, but you know it just wouldn’t work,” David jested, giving her a nudge as he laughed. “Alright, alright, finding some pour soul to ring in the new year with you.”
“Okay, um, don’t take this the wrong way but barf.” She laughed, slinging her arm over his shoulders, even though it made her wobble slightly when he nudged her. “Poor soul?” Riley scoffed. “They should be so lucky.”
lennoxscholes:
Lennox nodded and set it up. Peeling it away for her to take a look. “Tell me what you think of that?”
Riley squealed in delight as he revealed the sketch - jiggling slightly as she tried to stay still in her excitement. “Perfect! Perfect!” She laughed, meeting his gaze with a wide smile. “Let’s do it!”
rileduprylie:
“Yeah, today actually.” He said, easing his hold so she could look at the dog. Murphy sat down in front of them, licking her tear stained cheek. “He’s a bit of a lover.” He joked, scruffling the dogs head.
Riley sat up, wiping at her cheeks with a laugh. As a sucker for a little furry face, he made her feel a little better, almost instantly. “Why didn’t you tell me you got a dog?”
Confused | Riley & Rylie
rileduprylie:
“Course you can.” He told her as he put on where they had left off of the office. “Want to borrow something to sleep in?”
Riley sighed slightly, thinking about her options. She'd gone for cute over comfortable, and now she was regretting it because in order to wear something comfier - something of his - he'd have to get up. She glanced up at him, biting her lip before finally nodding.

“I’ll get right on that.” Braxley laughed. “I wasn’t made for shit talking. I’m a shy boy. Leave me alone.” He joked, pushing her lightly, “Besides, I don’t need to shit talk. My record speaks for itself. It could stand against yours any day.”
She couldn’t help but dissolve into laughter at his words. “A shy boy? Since when?” Riley teased, giggling a few more times before sobering up at his next comment. “Okay, first of all, you wish. And second of all, you take it back or I’ll get David to beat you up.”
acifeburke:
“Oh yeah, the Hideaway Cafe will give you some water if you just ask for it. I can go with you if you like.”
“Um -” Riley went to say no, but the company would be nice. “Actually, could you? I mean, I don’t want to bother you or anything.”
david-reynolds:
Taking the glass with a careful stare, trying to figure out what she was talking about, he remained seated. “Tell me what’s bothering you and I’ll get you another.”
“David!” She whined, rolling her eyes at him. He really was exactly like a big brother sometimes, and as much as she loved it, she wished sometimes he would just let something go. But they wouldn’t be them if he did, so she sighed, eyeing him before just admitting it. “I um, I’ve been talking to Xander.”
rileduprylie:
Rylie tossed the phone on the nightstand as she came into view. His arms opening as she joined him and he looped her in his hold. “Hey, it’s okay. It was just a dream. I’m here, I got you.” He told her as he held her, Murphy wagging about at the new comer, trying to lick her with love and comfort. “Murphy, down. Let her settle.”
She crawled across the bed and up toward where he was laying, relaxing against him and pulling the blankets back up snug around them both. She was shivering still, and she cuddled closer, nodding as she tried to blink away the images from her nightmare. “Murphy?” She asked, popping her head back up and realizing there was a dog she’d entirely missed before. “Wait - you got a dog?”
xanderscrimgeour:
“Is that so?” he spoke with an amused smile, picking up the glasses with a laugh. “Would a free round or two make up for it, or am I doomed to go bankrupt by financing your entire night?”
Her smile grew at his words, and she shrugged. “It’s a start.” She laughed, sitting up straighter as he reached for the glasses. “Just one - Rylie and David wandered off and I’ve got no one to annoy, so you’ve got me all to yourself for the time being. Sorry.” She grinned, totally unapologetic.
Cheat | Riley & Xander | Flashback
xanderscrimgeour:
He could feel his chest contracting, tightening to a point that he wasn’t certain he could breathe, watching as she left, desperate to follow after her, desperate to undo all that had been done. With a shaky sigh that felt like a full body shudder, he turned back to the mess that was their room. It wasn’t unusual for the room to be a mess, it didn’t matter how often he tried to keep ahead of it, clothing always seemed to be strewn everywhere, but today was different. It wasn’t that Riley had thrown her dirty clothing near the basket and not quite managed to make the mark, it was his clothes and his clothes alone that were messily strewn about the place, a stark reminder of what he had done.
He couldn’t just let her go, he couldn’t let his failing cause everything he cared about to come to an end, to lose the one thing he loved above everything else. With a frustrated grunt at his own stupidity he grabbed at his clothes angrily, throwing on his pants with a frown, almost falling over in the process. Yanking his shirt off the dresser it had landed on he hurried his way out the room, stuffing his arms through it as he made his way out the bedroom door. But he didn’t make it far. She was there, sitting on the top of the stairs, and he had never seen her like that before. He didn’t know there was any part of him left that could still break, yet that sight seemed to make the last part of him crumble.
He didn’t want to startle her, he was terrified this time she would run for sure, so he didn’t sit down, no matter how much he wanted to. He didn’t wrap his arms around her, he didn’t utter reassuring words into her ear, with promises he would never do it again, instead he leant against the wall, making sure to give her space should she need it. “Talk to me, please,” he practically pleaded with her.
She didn’t know how long she was sitting there. It could have been moments, it could have been hours. All she was aware of were the tears on her cheeks, the dull ache in her back, and the pounding that was starting within her skull. Riley thought she could hear Xander moving in their bedroom, doing god only knew what, but she wasn’t sure she cared. She was finding it hard to care about much at the moment, the small amount of thoughts that she even had muddled and tangled within her head. How had they gotten here? What had she done to lead them to this? Or had it been inevitable? Was he not the same man anymore, that she had spent the past seven years with?
Riley jumped slightly at the sound of his voice, not having realized he had come to be standing right beside her. She moved, her face in her arm away from him, staring out between the rails of the banister. “Talk to you about what?” She whispered, voice small and broken as she sat there, already having given up. She didn’t even feel like herself, it was like she was an empty shell. She didn’t have any fight left in her. Wiping at her eyes, she sniffled. “There’s nothing to talk about. It’s over. It’s.... it’s done. It has to be.”
naomidesjardins:
“Yes,” Naomi agreed, nodding at the other woman. “Fill me in though, like I’m into whatever’s going on, but why are you avoiding this dude?”
“Because he’s really creepy and I think he totally recognizes me, so I can’t even hide.” She cringed, shuddering lightly. “I’m Riley, by the way. And thank you. You’re honestly a lifesaver.”
david-reynolds:
“You know we’d be a lot faster if we carried you right?” David laughed, looking over his shoulder for Rylie only to find they had been abandoned. “Or not… Fine, what are we looking for,” he sighed resignedly.
“I can walk.” She complained, making a face at him, even though she knew he was probably right. “Come on, you know my type. Tall, dark, handsome. Light eyes, strong.... just drunk enough that I won’t have to call them tomorrow.”
lennoxscholes:
“I may or may not be a mind reader.” Lennox chuckled with a wink. “where are we putting this again?” He asked as he tried to remember where exactly she had wanted it.
“Must come in handy.” She teased, a light laugh falling from her lips. “Here.” She pointed to the spot on her forearm she’d decided on, tracing a line across her skin. “I want the blank stripe to be like, right here.”
Confused | Riley & Rylie
rileduprylie:
“don’t apologize.” He said gently, kissing the top of her head. He just wanted to ease her. “Want to watch something stupid on tv?” He offered, thinking of the dumb shows they watched that might make her feel better.
Nodding, she curled in closer to him, letting the warmth of his body comfort her. Letting loose a small sigh, she let herself relax, the tension leaving her muscles slowly. Stretching her legs out, she yawned, feeling drained. “Can I stay with you tonight?”
