Riley sits quietly on the steps of Belvedere, hoping to catch her sister wandering about so she could speak to her. But, to her surprise, it’s not her sister who asks to sit next to her.
“Oh, hey. Yeah. I mean, I guess -- if you want.”

It was disgraceful to Riley, to see everyone hop off the ferry, with fake ugly smiles and a wine glass in each of their hands, like it was some fucking parade. Their mother must have paid big bucks to see her ‘Little Princess Valerie’ get everything her cold heart desired - just like their childhood had been. Riley hoped that will Valerie living in Seattle, she’d never have to come into contact with her sister again. Which is why it was such a shocker to Riley that she had asked her to be a bridesmaid - since they hadn’t talked in years. Riley accepted the invite without hesitation - she found it odd that her conscious couldn’t scream, ‘no, fuck that’.
She wasn’t sure why she was there to greet everyone, it’s not like she knew half of the people on the boat, only the scarce few who grew up in her hometown of Freeport Island. Riley mainly just came by to see Davie. With two cold beers hanging from her hands - that she snuck out of Siren’s - she hoped that when all the partially drunk guests got settled in to The Belvedere Inn, they could drink down by the docks, make fun of the whole wedding charade and guests that piled through and maybe get a couple more beers if needed.
Because Riley wasn’t ready to acknowledge that her sister was really only ten feet away from her, she quickly ducked behind a large tree, just as a tipsy Valerie descended off of the boat with the help of her soon-to-be husband.
She could admit that she was finally feeling jealous of something her sister had that she didn’t - love.
