I made something dumb cus @rileyyellow6 and their friend has an inside bit and I don’t know what it is or how they got there but I still think it’s funny
I like Marshall a lot because of how oddly distant he feels from the other three, while still being more notable than the various worm mutants
Almost the exact same thing happens to him as Eugene, but it feels so much more personal there, and there feels like an intentional chain, as Rafta and Nestor both get disappointed when they can’t possess who they want to, and make it pretty obvious Sam is a reluctant backup
but you don’t get interactions like that between them and Marshall, he feels more like an Easter egg because of that lack of interaction, and it’s not helped by his physical distance, everyone is in one place except for him
he gets named, you can talk to him before the Rafta quest over multiple days for multiple lines of dialogue so you get a bit of his personality, he gets a unique design and functions different rom the other worm mutants (as you can watch him get attacked, get dialogue out of him for that, and he is entirely immobile) he is also given a particular role when he gets assimilated like Nestor and Eugene do, as he gives the worms quicker access to the sewers/basement floor, he and Eugene are the only two to be directly affected by Nestor’s pieces, assimilated because of fusion, and he is found in the same place Nestor is and Rafta talks to him directly
he means something to this plot, even in these small ways
It’s a quartet, there’s four main victims here, yet he’s kinda off to the side still, I’m probably the only one but it feels a little weird to me

gore violence (I think?) and body horror warnings woo I got plans for him
Since he and Nestor’s transformations feel more similar (they both kind of explode, get rooted in place, scout, and lay eggs everywhere) I wanted to reflect that and further by making Marshall’s transformation more graphic, as Nestor gets dismembered from the inside out and his chunks go parasiting around the building of course
so first I wanted to lobotomize him
Because an Entire Man’s Leg on another mans head is terribly unwieldy and it needs the structural support! Helped by thicker worms that grow around his neck and through his brain and face so everything can stabilize
plus, it contributes to his hostility
Nestor panics and is initially hostile when he is dismembered, you chase after his pieces, notably his head of course, and they immediately attack
when Nestor possesses Eugene though, he becomes passive again, he’s calmed down and is now just trying accept what’s happened and all
so by that logic, theoretically Marshall could behave similarly if he of course is not just gone entirely, it just takes longer because of that brain trauma
come back to him in another week or two and if you wake him up he’ll give you newfound worm wisdom
oh and I also picture him kind of fading in and out of consciousness, also kinda because of being lobotomized,
he’s not fully there, and because the femur punctures around the parietal and frontal lobes, whatever gets damaged probably contributes to some level of difficulty with sensory stimuli, self control, emotional regulation, and whatnot, so he kind of just yells at you like in game and attacks without thinking about it much
stuff like that, I might be kind of off but you can see the logic I hope
Also he’d be in a lot of chronic pain, like he talks about
to match the whole exploding bit too he gets gutted, his sprite kind of looks like that to me anyway
so people who get immediate brain trauma from being wormed are more likely to kind of combust like this, and the mass created kind of leads to rooting and exploration, the largest, central lump of worm mass gets rooted to wherever it lies and either lays eggs or splits off into other worms.. or both, they probably do both too
so you got your worm worms, the immediate victims, which explode to spread out and create safe spaces for spawn/create nurseries or whatever, and then more worm victims, but since these worms are more human now, it prevents them from completely blowing up their hosts from the inside
especially if they go the Eugene route where they avoid major organs and stuff, and work more on slowly melting muscle tissue to repurpose as worm tissues and other new body parts, then you get things more akin to the worm mutants
idk maybe im thinking too hard about it but I like him, so i suppose I just think he should suffer more
I got some more drawings of him I’ve been collecting and more thoughts on what’s happened to him but this post is long enough as is I’ll share that later :j
