In this world we're living in it's so easy to overthink about the impact of the future event which causes emotional durability bias that we tend to forget about all other things that are going on in our lives.
This is called Impact Bias. It is essentially a human prediction about how long an emotional reaction will last.
For example, believing that if we get a specific gift we will never want anything else and it will be our favorite thing forever. this emotional reaction may last for a while, but then eventually it will fade away as desires can change from time to time and boredom happens with material things. another example would be experiencing a breakup and feeling you'll never find happiness again. But with time and healing negative feelings will go away and you'll find yourself finding happiness and courage to love again.
How to Prevent/cope with Impact Bias?
1. Take the time to pause and reflect on what matters. Try journaling or reading books.
2. Invest on your present moment more and the future will flow with it positively.
3. Adjust your perspective, try to think about other events that will happen as well in the future this will widen your future focus.
Being aware of Impact bias is important because our predictions or beliefs will impact your actions and how we look forward to our future. Keep in mind to not let your emotion dictate how long you will feel a certain emotion. We can train our minds to be in control ^^
