hello everyone, i'm anya and welcome to my elf ear talk where i'll explain the thought process behind designing my main elf characters' ears.

! all based on headcanons !

as an example of ears that adhere completely to the beauty standard among let's start with tanarion. his ears are everything one might desire - they're long, straight and elegant, demonstrating his high social status and pure-blooded altmer heritage. moreover, they signify his determination to always follow his moral compass and obey the law - to live 'straight'! (idk if he's straight himself, i'd say mostly so... that's another point..)

endalwe, for comparison, has rounded, shorter ears. to the elven gaze and along with her overall soft features, freckles, and auridon accent, it makes her appear rather imperfect and 'provincial' which is based on my headcanon that auridon is considered to be more rural than mainland summerset and that everyone there is basically a country bumpkin according to altmer nobles. lack of sharp edges also illustrates endalwe's gentle nature befitting of a healer.

nocmos's case is more complicated as she has fake ears along with real ones. her real ears are small, breton-like at best in their appearence (see Reference 1) that she decorates with extensions. they lengthen the ears, but not to a crazy degree, just enough to poke out of untucked hair and look natural and intentional. she created the 'fake ears' to fit in better in an elven society which is very much like autistic masking - she hides and suppresses her true self in more ways than one, blending together her identities. also probably a good moment to shamefully admit i'm into 'elf ears are sensitive' hc and from that perspective nocmos makes sort of an armour and builds up walls around her heart forbidding everyone from intimacy with her, be it physical, emotional, familial, platonic, or romantic.

it's my birthday and as always i drew a little Nocmos for myself despite the terrible art block <3

This is my mermaid OC Dia! I based her on a betta and made her design as flowy as possible!

She originated as my Coral Island farmer who was forcefully transformed into a human and got her memories wiped out. That's why she didn't remember she's supposed to be gorgeous and opted out for a more practical style.
