hey friend :) any animes youre watching this season new or old?
Watched Zom100 first ep haha. In a slump right now so I don't think I'll be watching anything this season XD Not too many I'm interested in either
hi! who’s in your header?
Yes so sorry for the extremely late reply. I don't check Tumblr often haha. It's Chika & Natsuki from Blue Sky Complex, my favorite BL story.
LONG POST AHEAD
Hello, first of all so sorry for not being active on here. I'm sure most of you know me from my Twitter account. As everyone probably knows, Elongated Muskrat has once again fucked things up over at the Twitter HQ, so I'm reposting some of my tweets on here in case anything happens with my Twitter account. Can't guarantee staying active since I can only handle so many social media sites at once tho.
Starting off with the Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag to update you guys on my 2023 reads.
1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2022?
It's a tie between Kaleidoscope of Death & Shutline. KoD is exceptional all-around, and Shutline has the BEST romance of everything I've read.
2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2023?
I totally did NOT write 2022 in the last question... I'm not counting sequels of series I started in 2023, so The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine it is. Started the manhwa last year, but I read the novels this year & it's SO GOOD.
3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to?
I really wanted to read My Broken Mariko & Our Dreams at Dusk in time for Pride Month but didn't get to them in time (update: started Mariko already & it's EXCELLENT)
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of 2023?
There are more but these are the titles I'm pretty sure they'll put out this year. Not confident they might be able to publish Fool Night in time tho... Not the English publications btw
5. Biggest disappointment? Haru ni Naru made Mattete ne & the Hyouka novel both made me super sad cause I heard good things & really did not like them. Translation was pretty bad but the writing wasn't great too imo. I did not care like anyone in Hyouka which was surprising.
6. Biggest surprise?
I really did not expect to like Migi & Dali, wasn't sure at first but it really won me over by the end. And tbh I only read You Boys Play Games Really Well cause I felt like unhauling it, but it was great. It has esports in it.
7. New favorite author?
KoD was the best book I've read in 2023, which means Xī Zǐxù has written 2 of my faves (the other is My Five Elements Lack You), so no brainer there. Def reading more of Upi's works too, Pizza Delivery Man was phenomenal. Discovered Ichinohe Rumi, I really like her shojo. And Alexis Hall's Brittish humor won me over this year.
8. Newest fictional crush?
You all know there was no way in hell I wouldn't say Jake from shutline. He's so hot I honestly forgot who else I was going to put in for this question .
9. Newest favorite character?
New favorites are Kase & Yamada (Kase-san), Ailette (The Perks of being an S-class Heroine), Karasuma (Birdmen) & Aoki (My Love Mix-up). I love my sons & daughters so much. Please love my horny, love-struck lesbians, my unserious but hardworking, wanted-to-be-in-a-childcare-rofan-but-got-stuck-in-a-S-mode-regression-dungeon-crawler-story daughter, my tyrannical tsundere bird son & my bisexual dumbass.
10. Book that made you cry.
Pizza Delivery Man & Gold Palace was a hard one to read due to relatability. I reread Hikaru no Go & it felt like my heart was actually breaking at times.
11. Book that made you happy.
Really enjoyed Kase-san, You boys play games very well, Return of the Blossoming Blade & My S-Class Hunters. They were so fun, my heart was content. I def was smiling reading all of them.
12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year.
The Canis vols I got the other day is honestly my favorite by far. The covers are just so vibrant, and the artwork is stunning. I love all the extras too. The KoD collector’s edition is a close second. That baby is HEAVY.
13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
I’m a mood reader so this question is hard for me, but on my physical TBR I’m committed to starting & finishing Hanako-kun, Mushishi, Sanctify & Tetsugaku Letra this year. The shojosei titles I want to check off my list are Basara, Kids on the Slope & Last Game.
It’s almost the end of the year so I want to recap some standout new-to-me manga series I really enjoyed this year.
- Space Brothers (has so much heart, Mutta is hilarious, really educational)
- Wind Breaker - Nii Satoru (delinquent manga so enough said, SO MANY GOOD BOIS, just so much fun)
- Kaiju #8 (so fun again, love the weapon & uniform design, Kafka is such a good dad to Kikoru, Hoshina <3<3<3)
- My Dress-up Darling (learned so much about tailoring, Gojo best boy, GojoxMarin is such a good ship)
- Shikimori-san (I love my son & daughter, best friend group ever, the manga is just adorable)
- BL Metamorphosis (So chill, perfect after a hard day, really relatable not just for BL readers but also people who was/is unsure about their future career path, love the budding friendship & exploration of loneliness)
- Look Back (My first Tatsuki Fujimoto series. Also explores loneliness & friendship, very cinematic reading experience, phenomenal use of parallelism)
- Delicious in Dungeon (hilarious, def for DnD nerds, worldbuilding’s excellent, most creative use of monsters I’ve ever seen, the party dynamic is fun, Marcille best elf girl, and art’s so crisp. Food and adventure manga so can’t go wrong)
- My Not So Lonely Planet Travel Guide (Again with the food and adventure themes. Lovely healthy gay couple, learned so much about different cultures, wanted to go to Georgia so bad due to this manga)
P.S: I wanted to mention the lack of BL, shojo & josei series in this list. It’s honestly surprising cause they’re mainly all I read. I think because of that many series end up being so-so while I’m generally pickier with my shonen and seinen. So a goal of mine is to read a wider variety of shojosei.
