It’s almost the end of the year so I want to recap some standout new-to-me manga series I really enjoyed this year.
- Space Brothers (has so much heart, Mutta is hilarious, really educational)
- Wind Breaker - Nii Satoru (delinquent manga so enough said, SO MANY GOOD BOIS, just so much fun)
- Kaiju #8 (so fun again, love the weapon & uniform design, Kafka is such a good dad to Kikoru, Hoshina <3<3<3)
- My Dress-up Darling (learned so much about tailoring, Gojo best boy, GojoxMarin is such a good ship)
- Shikimori-san (I love my son & daughter, best friend group ever, the manga is just adorable)
- BL Metamorphosis (So chill, perfect after a hard day, really relatable not just for BL readers but also people who was/is unsure about their future career path, love the budding friendship & exploration of loneliness)
- Look Back (My first Tatsuki Fujimoto series. Also explores loneliness & friendship, very cinematic reading experience, phenomenal use of parallelism)
- Delicious in Dungeon (hilarious, def for DnD nerds, worldbuilding’s excellent, most creative use of monsters I’ve ever seen, the party dynamic is fun, Marcille best elf girl, and art’s so crisp. Food and adventure manga so can’t go wrong)
- My Not So Lonely Planet Travel Guide (Again with the food and adventure themes. Lovely healthy gay couple, learned so much about different cultures, wanted to go to Georgia so bad due to this manga)
P.S: I wanted to mention the lack of BL, shojo & josei series in this list. It’s honestly surprising cause they’re mainly all I read. I think because of that many series end up being so-so while I’m generally pickier with my shonen and seinen. So a goal of mine is to read a wider variety of shojosei.
