“You aren’t talking.” Annabeth replied, “You always talk.”

A red blush rose to Percy’s cheeks and he looked down at his shoes. Quickly, he mumbled something under his breath that Annabeth couldn’t hear. When she asked him to repeat he looked up at her, embarrassment evident, “Sorry, it’s just… I’m not feeling too good. I’m kind of lactose intolerant.”

“What?” Annabeth asked, “How didn’t I know that. Wait. Why would you suggest a date to get ice cream?”

He smiled bashfully, “Because you like that place so much. I thought you’d have a good time.”

Laughing, Annabeth slipped her arm around Percy’s waist. “I’d have a better time if my date didn’t get sick just to see me happy. Next time, let's choose a place we both can enjoy.”

“Noted,” Percy replied with a grin.

“Let’s get you home,” Annabeth said, leading the way still tucked against his side, “I’m sure you could use a Tums or something.”

“You have no idea.” Pressing a kiss to the side of Annabeth’s head, Percy added, “I have the best girlfriend.”

Girlfriend. That was a word Annabeth could get used to. It was sweeter than ice cream.

as always i was thinking about pjo and i started thinking about what power means in the pjo universe compared to other fictional universes and i realized that although demigods can be powerful, it’s not viewed as a good thing. for example, we see people declare that big three children are very powerful demigods, but in the titan’s curse, there is a debate on whether or not thalia and percy should be killed because of how powerful they are. 

in some fictional universe’s, character’s are pushed to become more powerful, to develop their skills, but in the pjo universe, that never happens. you never see chiron express at desire for percy to develop his oceanic skills, he wants him to train with weaponry. most of what percy develops with the ocean is done on his own and it’s done while fighting, usually at the last minute. and when you take all of this and apply it to something like the “annabeth is the most powerful demigod” statement, it makes me wonder what is viewed as power and what is viewed as strength. (i am a firm supporter of annabeth is the most powerful, js)

is annabeth’s level of power acceptable by the gods standard, therefore that is why percy said that? because we know it’s been stated that percy is extremely powerful, but that wasn’t stated by a god. and we know apollo views annabeth as the “scary blonde.” so it can be argued percy is powerful in terms of extreme strength and annabeth is powerful in terms of actual power. and while the gods fear both of them as a danger, they want to strangle one (percy) and abuse the other (annabeth). thanks for coming to my ted talk
