#personal #it’s likely a result of long lasting side effects of a drug called singulair i was on for a few years for my mcas #a few other possible reasons but that’s the most likely one #other possibilities are the small stroke i had but i had fine memory for like 13 years after that so probably not it #it’s very unlikely to be a result of the cyst but i’m listing that one anyways #there’s also brain fog related issues from some other health issues i have

just got doordash from a woman named "Olga" and I thought oh interesting, I feel like you only ever hear that name used to describe old russian ladies and I opened the door to get it and a barrel chested woman in a quilted overcoat greeted me. i said "thank you, Olga!" and she perked up with the sweetest smile, and said in the kindest voice, with the clearest ringing russian accent ive ever heard in person, "you're welcome darlink".

Okay, goyim, gentiles, folks…until you learn what the terms Ashkenazi, Sephardi, and Mizrahi actually mean, you really need to stop using them. Because at this point they’re mostly being used as shorthand by goyim for western racial/national/ethnic identifiers, and…they aren’t.

Ashkenazi doesn’t mean “white/European.”

Sephardi doesn’t mean “Latino.”

Mizrahi doesn’t mean “Arab.”

Not only are these uses inaccurate, and they are, but trying to flatten Jewish cultural signifiers into weird racial/ethnic labels is absolutely unhelpful to any conversation.

#they refer to where your ancestors were in the diaspora. that’s IT #ashkenazi means your ancestors ended up in europe either through being transported as slaves or escaping genocide #more specifically central to eastern europe #there’s some debate as to the borders of what subethnicity is tied to where because as a diasporic people we were pretty migratory #especially when you consider the fact that we were often fleeing places again once the people there turned on us #that’s why ashkenazi (which originally means german) jews seem to be more from eastern than central europe #the label also may apply to jews from asia minor but at that point you start getting into mizrachi areas #sephardim tend to be from western europe and north africa. pretty much think the western end of the mediterranean #they typically lived in places conquered by the moors #while the moors obviously didn’t treat them on the same level as muslims they generally weren’t doing shit like the christians with the #spanish inquisition and all that. hence why a number of jews fled spain into morocco during then #mizrachim tend to be those who remained in israel throughout the genocides and slavery. while they often didn’t have rights equal to the #muslims or christians who conquered the area they did continue living there #they may also have spread out to surrounding areas in the ME/NA region #think egypt or lebanon or syria #which as a side note. google how many jews still live there after the modern stage of israel was established #there’s also a number of other subethnicities like bukhari yemenite bene israel beta israel #but those are the main three you’ll probably encounter the most often #and when i say subethnicities what i mean is that we’re still all of the same ethnic group #but there are some differences based on how long each group was separated from the rest of us #and back to OP’s point it doesn’t always describe how we look #because it basically just refers to where your ancestors ended up the first time they left israel and not wherever they may have ended up #later on

I do give almost all the credit for my love of Interstellar to theoretical physicist Kip Thorne who bullied Nolan at every turn into keeping the science as realistic as possible even when Nolan threw tantrums abt it because he wanted to sacrifice what was plausible for what was exciting and Kip Thorne just kept being like sorry is the theoretical capabilities of spacetime travel not exciting enough for you?
