what are some things that impress you guys in applications?

Honestly, we’re impressed by the writing. This isn’t going to be a one-liner group – and that’s not to knock the efficiency of one-liners, but Amanda and I write a lot when we’re in our characters’ heads, and we look for that kind of commitment and expression in everyone else we write with, too. 

Because of the nature of the plot, we don’t expect threads to get too long here. But we still want to see a connection to your character – we want to see that you care about them beyond a faceclaim and a trope, that they’ve actually become a fleshed-out person in your head. 

It’s also really, really important that you take the time to research the more sensitive aspects of your character’s background or personality. Writing doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and too often the rpc romanticizes or over-writes things like mental illness, abuse, and addiction. If you can show us a character in your application whose tragedies inform (and not mandate!) who they are today, and we can see from your writing sample that you take care in your writing, and we can feel that what you’re presenting us could be a genuine, living & breathing person you’ve created, then you’re a lock. 

It sounds intimidating, but it’s really just this: are you ready and excited to spend time with the character you’ve created for this group? Do you understand them? Wonderful. You’re wonderful. Welcome to the group.

We’re drawing closer to the release date for the main (11:59pm on Wednesday, August 02!) and, as per the ask we just received, we wanted to post a few more questions that y’all can answer about the character you have in mind! These are completely optional and just for fun, so put as much effort into them as you would like.

Seeing all the graphics and posts people have made has me kind of worried I don't stand a chance at getting in. My character is super fleshed out and I already have a ton of headcanons for them, but I can't make the pretty graphics and mood boards that everyone else is doing. It's kind of putting a damper on the excitement for me.

Lemme level with you: I’m terrible at making graphics. Like, I wanted to link to one of my failed projects to show how terrible I am, but it’s too bad even for that. I can’t make gifs, I can’t make manips – I can’t edit photos except with this little free app I got on my phone.

When I’m antsy with inspiration, I put it in words, instead. This is first and foremost a literate rpg – it’s the quality of writing, and commitment to the character, that matter more than anything else. 

The graphics everyone is making are gorgeous and we love them and it makes us literally !!!!! whenever there’s a new one in the tag, but you don’t have to be good at making graphics to be a good writer. If your character is super fleshed out, and you have a ton of headcanons, that’s gold. That’s what we want here. You won’t be treated any differently for not having a moodboard attached to your app.

Will we be able to make up our own connection to Dean if we don't like any of the suggestions or we can't envision our character fitting with any of the suggestions?

Yes, of course! We’re just going to provide a list of suggested connections. If none of those work for you or your character, feel free to make up your own and include it in your app!

Apologies if this has been answered already, but can we apply for more than one archetype in order to have more chances to be accepted to the group? Obviously we'd only be accepted for one, but I'm interested in a couple and was just wondering if that would be allowed.

how much additional info is going to be in the skeletons? like will it be earth shattering amounts of information, or do you think that it will be a small enough amount for us to still keep our character ideas intact?

They’re pretty short! Some are more structured than others (the Athlete is pretty simple compared to the Sell-Out or the Soldier, let’s say). I think everyone will be fine with what they have when it comes time to finish up the applications and submit them! Jenn’s asleep right now, but I’ll see what she says when she wakes up in a few hours if we can release the Activist as an example skeleton for ya’ll to see. It’s all pretty barebone, and I’m sure if you’re really stuck on a character idea and it doesn’t conform to the skeleton that we can discuss it off anon and sort it out/make some exceptions! :)

DEAN PELHAM, a student at Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, AZ, died unexpectedly on March 20, 2014 at the age of 18.

Dean was born in Phoenix on January 9, 1996 to Sebastian and Rachel Pelham. He was on track to graduate high school in June, and was in the process of selecting a college to attend this fall. A skilled athlete, he played for Desert Vista’s Varsity Soccer team, where he was a sweeper. He was an active member of the Service Honor Society, an occasional contributor to the Desert Vista Literary Magazine, and a National Merit semi-finalist.

Dean was a devoted student and son. He enjoyed hiking, and hoped to take a backpacking trip through Central America after graduation. He was also a problem-solver who took on many difficult and unwanted projects at school and around the house. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

A funeral service is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on March 29 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, on Central Avenue. Msgr James Coogan will officiate. Flowers, donations, and condolences may be offered at the family home, 764 Gold Dust Dr. Phoenix, AZ 85018.

Hi cuties! I was just wondering when the skeletons would be released. I'd love to start working on my app, but am afraid that the skeleton of the archetype I'm aiming for won't fit the character I'm making. Thanks so much!

Hey to you, too, cutie! The skeletons should be released pretty sporadically on Thursday! Straight after they’re all posted on the main, we’ll be opening the submit box and you can start applying! The submit will be open for a week or so, so you’ll have plenty of time to work/tweak your application! I hope this helps!
