you peer out the window, watching as this so called christopher steps out of his toyota corolla, a bag of chipotle in hand.
chipotle as a peace offering? that's more like it.
there's two knocks and you swing the door open, extremely curious as to what he meant by all that. "are you the one who lives here?" he confirms, glancing down at his phone.
"yeah?" you nod, partially confused, and also looking down at the massive essay he has displayed.
christopher holds up the paper bag, bursting at its seams with what seems like two bowls and extra chips on the side, but doesn't let go when you take it—leaving you in a standoff and what might be the number one weirdest experience of your life.
then, he draws in a huge, shaky breath, lifting his phone. "this is from megan...sky...endol..." with a quick wince, he continues. "surprise, it's me! you're a lot pettier than i thought, so hopefully all the food does the trick."
you're barely holding your laugh as christopher continues reciting megan's message like someone reading a scribe to a king. "—i've wronged you and i'm really sorry for that. therefore, i, megan, pledge that—"
right as this poor guy places his hand over his heart as if he's actually swearing allegiance, you hear manon's laugh from behind you and you know it's over. she's doubled over in laughter, trying to hide behind the doorframe and stay quiet so she doesn't embarrass him further. "did megan do this?" she whispers, shoulders shaking.
you nod as christopher continues, more into it than before, like he just remembered how much he'd gotten tipped. "i will never ragebait you again and i'll do anything you want."
he clears his throat and scrolls while manon is crouched on the floor, masking her laugh as a cough. "in conclusion, i ask of you—no, i beg you—from the depths of my heart and with everything in me, to..." he pauses for effect, then bursts out, "UNBLOCK ME, PLEASE! I'M BEGGING YOU, I'M SORRY."
he stops and lowers his phone and you swear manon's never laughed harder in all her twenty something years of living. "she uh...she said to yell that part as loud as i can," christopher says, putting his phone back into his pocket.
"dude, i'm so sorry she made you do that," you console, finally taking the bag as manon butts in with a, "but you did sooo good! you should take up acting."
he laughs, starting to walk back to his car. "thanks, i mean, she tipped me two hundred which is more than enough motivation," he shrugs, "so you must be pretty cool or she's insane. but enjoy the extra guac!"
the corolla peels away and you slowly close the door. manon is starfished on the ground, gasping out a "man, i fucking love megan."
you look down at the warm bag in your hands. on the receipt, scribbled in sharpie where the name should be, it just says: "I LOVE YOU ALSO EXTRA CHIPS :)"
