Why Many Traders Choose Currency Trading Over Online Share Trading

Online share trading is simply described as purchasing and selling financial assets with the use of a proprietary internet-based trading platform. Online share trading saw a dramatic increase in use starting from the mid-90s to late-'90s. This was due to the introduction of internet connections and high-speed computers at affordable prices. It still continues to be a major method or trading. Currency trading or Forex trading is the act of buying and selling currencies in the international currency market. While both of them are done for the purpose of making profits, there are a large number of differences that can confuse people thinking to trade in either market.

When talking about online share trading vs. currency trading, one of the biggest reasons that many traders choose the latter is due to leverage. Here are the major differences between online share trading and currency trading:

●        Leverage

When you go for online stock trading, you can normally carry out trades with a maximum leverage ratio of 2:1. You also need to meet some qualifying requirements before you can start trading. Not all investors are approved for margin accounts. Margin accounts are essential to gain leverage in online share trading.

On the other hand, currency trading with leverage simply requires opening a currency trading account.

●        Paired trades

Unlike online share trading, currency trading always involves currencies being quoted in pairs. Hence, you have to be aware of the economic health of both the country you are trading against and the country whose currency you are trading in.

●        Price sensitivity to trade activity

The price sensitivity for these two markets is completely different. Purchasing stock of 10,000 shares through online share trading may have a significant effect on the stock price. This applies especially to smaller corporations. The reason for this is that have lesser shares outstanding compared to bigger companies like Apple or Google.

Conversely, trading currency of several hundred million dollars using a major currency is highly likely to have little or no effect on any currency’s price in the market.
