Laying the past to rest with dignity, honoring the present with love, calling the future to rise: Samhain Ritual 2018

This is my personal ritual I’m going to be performing on Samhain. I invite you all to perform it yourselves if you don’t have a ritual planned already! 🥀🖤

Ingredients: a list of things you wish to rid yourself of within the new year, a description of yourself and current situation written with love (think of it as from the perspective of a person who loves you giving a eulogy for you), a list of things you wish to draw toward you for the new year, 3 dead leaves, 3 colorful autumn leaves, 3 green leaves picked from a tree, 1 white candle, 1 white & red candle (I have one that’s red on top & white on bottom, this isn’t very common so you can use pink as a substitute!), 1 red candle, old hair gathered from your hairbrush (optional), hair gathered from your hairbrush that day (optional), the head of a small flower, mullein leaf, St. John’s wort, peppermint leaf, & blessed thistle.

Directions:

This spell has 3 steps.

Step one: take your list of things to rid yourself of & read it aloud. Then fold in your old hair, dead leaves, & mullein leaf. Burn it in the flame of the white candle, and say the following incantation:

“Here we lay the past to rest

Going with peace and dignity,

Never again causing distress.

Only to be remembered wistfully.

Goodnight and goodbye.”

Step two:

Take your description of yourself aka your “eulogy” and read it aloud. Then fold in the head of a small flower, the autumn leaves, & St. John’s wort. Burn it in the flame of the red & white or pink candle & say the following incantation:

“We honor the present with love,

And cherish it for all that it is.

We forgive it for anything we are ashamed of

To accept it as this.

Goodnight for now.”

Step three:

Take your list of things you wish to draw to you and read it aloud. Then fold in the hair collected that day, the green leaves, the blessed thistle, and the peppermint. Burn it in the flame of the red candle and say the following incantation:

“I call upon the future to rise

And draw forth everything I want to see

Come back stronger from your demise

So I can become the best version of me.

See you in the morning.”
