It’s with a heavy heart that we are announcing the final River City Extension show as a band. It’s been a long, weird journey with so many talented musicians and irreplaceable memories. Being able to connect with all of you through our music all over the world these past eight years means more to us than we can express through words. We love River City Extension and we love the catalogue and the shows and all of you. Our last release, Deliverance, is by far my favorite thing I’ve ever worked on and perhaps the goal of River City to begin with. In short, looking forward, we realized our work here is done.
A bunch of us are still involved with music. Mike Costaney has a band with Rachel Gawell called Baba Sonya and their EP is beautiful. Shane just released a solo EP under the name Shane Luck which I also strongly recommend you check out. Shane’s a great drummer but an equally incredible singer and songwriter. Nick’s band is called Gay Guy/Straight Guy and they’ve been active for a while now. You can follow everything John is working on at his Muccino page, and I have a feeling there is some great work coming.
If any River City music comes out in the future, it will likely be something I do solo. Maybe a concept record about Toms River or something. I don’t know if or when that will happen but it won’t be any time soon. I’ll still play shows now and then just me and the guitar/piano, so we can preserve the connection you all have had with these songs. In the meantime I’m moving to Philly and working on a record out there, something different. Hopefully I’ll see you on the other side.
I’m sure this comes as a shock to some of you and it’s a little shocking to us as well, but it’s time. We’re so happy with the work we’ve done and having the opportunity to meet and play with one another. Life is just pulling us all in different directions right now- and that’s ok.
As some of you know or have seen, we’ve faced some pretty serious challenges publicly and privately over the past few years with line-up changes, ill-managed logistics and apathetic release strategies. Wish that didn’t have anything to do with it, maybe some people who left the band would tell you it didn’t. It’s all a little hazy still but I want to tell you this- the reason River City won’t be playing as a band anymore is because we aren’t a band anymore, and we all recognize that and have made our peace with that and are still very good friends.
This ended up being a little longwinded anyway. See you in November. A bunch of the old crew is coming back. Gonna be a blast.

PS - If you’re wondering, everyone who ordered vinyl for our new record will be receiving it. The reason it has taken so long has been quality control. We refused to release the first pressing (which sounded terrible) and sent it back until it sounded right. Anyway, it’s coming.
